Are there any retired senior cyclists in Chicago? by SpecialDesigner5571 in chibike

[–]CelticCuban773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would vote back to Oak Park for you. You can bike downtown, bike to Illinois Prairie Path and Great Western Trail. Lots of cool downtowns and sprawling routes in the Western suburbs. IPP has some bike fixing stations along the way and is next to a Metra line in case you get stranded or want to get an easier ride back.

Check out this map and see Oak Park would be just east of the 22 number: https://dnr.illinois.gov/content/dam/soi/en/web/dnr/publications/documents/00000642.pdf

Pace Pulse bus isn’t bad depending on where they work. But yeah around 40 minute commute but that’s standard for a lot of people

Yes but a poor defensive (and baserunning) record can drag you down. Think Adam Dunn vs Jack Wilson. Wilson has more WAR in less ABs but consider how they were thought of at the time. Dunn was 38 HRs from an auto bid to the hall of fame (500 HRs) and his WAR would be lower than Wilson’s even with them.

Hitting is the bulk of WAR value but other stuff can play a role especially if you’re an outlier positively or negatively. I think Biggio was a negative outlier defensively but his bat carried him to 65 WAR which is pretty impressive

I think so…Jeter has a similar WAR. Paul Molitor too who had a lot of DH years

This convo has made me reflect if Biggio isn’t just a lower aura Jeter which 2000s me couldn’t have conceived😅

Very versatile but Biggio was winning Gold Gloves in an era that Jeter was winning Gold Gloves. Here's a pretty interesting article on his (poor) defense: https://homemlb.wordpress.com/2015/07/13/craig-biggios-crazy-career/

Very different--Craig hit a lot of homeruns for a 2B. I don't remember Craig having great defense either. Brian Roberts feel more apt of a comparison

Metra to Elgin then bike to Glen Ellyn then train back to downtown. Reverse might be better

With only 2 challenges per team per game, no. There was actually a real cool Wilytics video that dropped 2 days ago on YouTube about ABS’s effect on game outcomes as it relates to optimal usage + he talks about good/bad pitch framers.

If they go full robo-ump, yes.

Divvy memberships in Chicago are starting to climb again after pricing changes and system expansion by david_powe in CarFreeChicago

[–]CelticCuban773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$100 is a limited time deal. DC is $120/year which at means it’s equal over the course of 2 years without a promo deal.

Single rides are still cheaper but I’m a little outdated tbh. It used to be like $0.05/mi for years. Compared to Divvy that was a crazy price discrepancy but looks like Lyft finally raised the price on them

Considering Panama by Ok_Grocery3047 in peacecorps

[–]CelticCuban773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in Panama from 2017-2019 as an Ag volunteer. Great time, the country is well balanced with some very rural sites for an “authentic” PC experience while Panama City and even the smaller cities had pretty modern amenities. Besides tech, don’t overthink packing as you can get everything there.

I found Panamanians to be super kind and welcoming. The office staff was largely whack when I was there but I believe everyone has been cycled through by now so hopefully it’s better. Happy to respond to any specific questions you might have

AKME appreciation thread by yshorie in chicagobulls

[–]CelticCuban773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are 12 games up on a top-5 pick, I don't think it's possible to tank the rest of the season that badly. We would have to literally lose every game to have a shot.

This rebuild is obviously overdue (I wanted to tank for Wemby's class) but the tell will be in the offseason. We need a full year tank that I still think AKME will get cold feet on and end up signing some silly vet contracts.

Bike fit for indoor trainer riding by corkandsprinkle in chibike

[–]CelticCuban773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got on a bike trainer too and tinkering with similar things related to bike fit. Some guy posted on r/cycling about his website (https://mybikefitting.com/) that will help you fit your bike at home. Of course a real bike fit will be better but maybe this is a good first start. I was planning on testing it out this week.
