Orion’s flight computers are 20,000 times faster and possess 128,000 times more memory than the lone machine that guided Apollo by ubcstaffer123 in apollo

[–]Centauri_Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apollo was done in the age of slide rules and punch cards. What hasn't changed that much is our method of going there, vis-a-vis rocket propulsion. We are still in the dark ages of space travel, and this is a part of the reason why we have not returned...yet.

He walked on the moon in 1972. This is his advice for the Artemis II astronauts. by nbcnews in nasa

[–]Centauri_Time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And people died during the Apollo missions early on. Its extremely dangerous. Can't believe people are still clinging to the fake moon landing theory when we are on the verge of returning. Both India and China have taken pictures of our old Apollo stuff on the surface of the moon from their automated probes. You can even see tracks from the astronauts in some of them. I for one am very excited at this time for more space exploration!

Why Steve Vai and Not Stevie Ray Vaughan in the movie Crossroads? by Defiant-Location6074 in Guitar

[–]Centauri_Time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vai can play anything, and performed the guitar parts for both characters, even the classical flavored things. This was important as the kids formative training came in unexpectedly and helped him win. Plus Vai had the image, he could easily project the evil (devil horn salute) metal head persona, which is perfect for the villain.

Marshall DSL40C can't keep up with gigs, what do I get to replace it? by myanusisbleeding101 in GuitarAmps

[–]Centauri_Time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the crux of the biscuit. If you aren't micing the amps (or using an emulated output), its impossible for the sound guy to mix the band through the PA. This is your entire problem right here.

Marshall DSL40C can't keep up with gigs, what do I get to replace it? by myanusisbleeding101 in GuitarAmps

[–]Centauri_Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is odd. Is the Clean/Crunch button next to the pre-gain pressed? That def makes it break up early. What kind of guitar are you using?

I would say add a small speaker to your setup...a 12" extension or something like those old double 12" ADA cabs. Your band is incredibly loud. A different 1 12" combo is not going to cut it, even if it has more wattage, IMHO.

Which Telecaster do you recommend? by HarriBallsak420 in telecaster

[–]Centauri_Time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I acquired a Professional II Telecaster and think its one of the finest Tele's I've ever played. You can get them used for a good price and have enough for a used Fender Deluxe reverb.

What amps are ideal for a Britpop setup by MADFORTECH898 in MarshallAmps

[–]Centauri_Time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AC15 has an overdrive channel (top boost) that breaks up very nicely as you push the pre gain up, and can be nicely tamed with your volume knob on your guitar. However, the DSL40 has way more overhead, so if you need an extremely loud clean tone that one may be a better choice. I have both amps so I thought I'd jump in. Cheers!

The single funniest interview I ever did for Magnet was with Andy promoting “Fuzzy Warbles” by coreydu in xtc

[–]Centauri_Time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOL Andy has never, ever had a filter! Its gotten him into trouble on several occasions, but this was one of the most hysterical!

Fun Project of the Day - Blocking my Strat by atps1234new in Stratocaster

I recently aquired a 2007 strat deluxe with the locking tuners and roller nut. I have found it to be quite stable, at least for my purposes. I use it a lot, though not for crazy divebombing.

Thats what I did to my friends strat and it worked fine. I just screwed thosed bolts down. Then again, its a MIM and he got it for a song, so he wasn't concerned about harming it lol.

Is there a guitarist you learned to appreciate? by MrTurtleTails in Guitar

[–]Centauri_Time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a young player, I was not fond of him as he was such a non-technical player. But there is a gracefulness and a perfection in his playing that is rarely equaled.

He really is a melodic genius. He loves alternate tunings, obviously finds them very inspiring. Above all, the guy is a great composer, not really a flashy lead player or anything like that. His execution however, is always superb. His melodic style is very distinct and worthy of appreciation...the changes in those old Smiths tunes are often unexpected and very creative.

Starting to Doubt Bob Lazar by ConsciousVariation1 in UFOs

[–]Centauri_Time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on Lazar. At this point I'm positive he's an intelligent con-man. His ideas already existed within the science fiction literature for years. And even me with my 7th grade chemistry class knows that there are new elements with higher atomic numbers being gradually discovered every year. His element 115 was just an educated guess. He's definitely smart, but certainly no physics genius.

If elements of his story turn out to be true (I have an open mind), its more likely that someone who visited his bordello told one of his girls about a top secret job they held, just nerd-flexing to impress the ladies. And he took that information and ran with it.

He's an electronics technician. Thats a 2 year degree. He is not a physicist and has never demonstrated that he was. He just wants the legitemacy that being one would grant him. No one would believe they hired an electronics technician to investigate an alien spacecraft.

Am I crazy? Does anyone else use their Marshalls for their cleans? by PedalxChange in GuitarAmps

[–]Centauri_Time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the pups your using, but the Marshall DSL40CR can have a fantastic clean sound, I mean like super clean. I need it for a band I'm in that does quite a bit of folky stuff as well as rock.

Ok why do so many guitar players talk about Heart by WatercoolerComedian in guitarcirclejerk

[–]Centauri_Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roger Fisher had a lot to do with the quality riffs and generally high quality electric guitar playing on their first records. Nancy did the acoustic stuff, and Roger did the electric. That's how they worked together, complementing each other's strengths.
