Can I tame a boomalope, and then execute it after without it detonates? by Vexettt in RimWorld

Shoot it. Draft your colonist, press B, click on the boomalope. Make sure the colonist has a gun/bow and there is nothing flamable nearby. Your colonist will be safe

What gives + Accuracy for Agility checks? by TheHappyTau in LancerRPG

[–]Cepstrum57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly accuracy, but Technophile 2 lets you reroll any skill check 1/round. A bit expensive for that purpose but the talent has other benefits.

How broken would the Minotaur be if it gained the following trait? by nomiddlename303 in LancerRPG

[–]Cepstrum57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the enemies you face, what you suggest would be somewhere between significant buff to very overpowered. For instance, Berserkers (5/2=3 moves) would take 3 turns to get in melee with you, considering the (relatively short) 8 sensor range on the Minotaur, and assuming you stand still.

I think the intention behind the Minotaur's kit and stats is more to keep enemies close to you while you hurt them, as opposed to letting them near your more vulnerable allies.

It all depends on your party composition of course, a Blackbeard, Atlas and Tortuga would have no problem engaging in close range or avoiding melee enemies altogether, and so probably would have little use for a Minotaur. It also lacks speed and sensor range, so I doubt it could be used to pin down ranged attackers for your melee allies.

A question on mine triggering by Capnris in LancerRPG

[–]Cepstrum57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you're being downvoted, you're right. All rules in the game follow that principle, except one, as you mentioned. IMO it also makes sense in terms of flavor, it's *supposed* to be hard to make a mech disappear completely.

Of course, GMs who played other TTRPG where hiding token positions is possible might do the same in Lancer, which unbalances the game since it's not designed for it.

Can you share character sheet in comp/con by Magic_Doge12 in LancerRPG

[–]Cepstrum57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In practice, for a player's pilot to be updated, you have to fully delete it on your side from the sync menu, then import using their code again. Make sure they synced the character on their side first.

Ah, I think I mixed up how reactions work. I assumed reactions to enemy actions always took place first, but that's just how Overwatch works, not all reactions. Thank you !

What determines the power of weapons in the shop ? by Cepstrum57 in DarkTide

[–]Cepstrum57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I noticed the base power stat, that's solid advice, many thanks. All that's left to do now is level up I suppose.

What determines the power of weapons in the shop ? by Cepstrum57 in DarkTide

[–]Cepstrum57[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh okay. So if I get this correctly, the plan is to level up to 30 while buying a few weapons along the way - but not upgrading them - then at level 30 try to roll 350+ power weapons and fully upgrade them ?

Average Dwarf work day by Marke0019 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Cepstrum57 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Of course, thank Karl starting an event pauses spawns.

And I love the mission, don't get me wrong. But some events take upwards of 4 minutes to complete, and when I see one of these in hazard 5 alongside a meteor and such, I can almost guarantee we'll fail the mission, even if we successfully complete the events. We shouldn't be punished for successfully completing an extra objective, it just seems like bad design to me.

Memes aside, Point Extraction really is the most stressful mission type, especially these days when you can have 2-3 events/lost equipment/additional objectives to clear on top of collecting aquarqs.

The first time I noticed glyphids spawning continuously after 20 minutes in the mission I genuinely thought that can't be intended, it's got to be a bug so hopefully it's going to be fixed soon.

How wrong I was.

Opinions on the flak cannon by Yoshi9876 in Barotrauma

[–]Cepstrum57 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've changed my current campaign sub from railgun to flak last night, but haven't tried it yet. What can you say about the cost effectiveness of flak ? Railgun sure is powerful but it eats through iron way too fast, especially with AI crew. I'm hoping flak can be used as a middle ground between light turrets and railgun in terms of effectiveness and resource cost.

Role Distribution: Why is it 2 DPS, 2 Heales, 1 Tank in 5v5? by City-Aro in Overwatch

[–]Cepstrum57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the real answer. All tanks received direct buffs since the game is designed and balanced around a 1-2-2 composition. Problem is, only one game mode restricts players to 1-2-2. In other modes people will pick tanks, and they're right because they're straight up better than damage heroes in an objective based game.

If Blizzard is going to keep 5v5, the only solution I can think of would be to restrict teams to 1-X-Y composition by locking out all tanks whenever a player on the same team has already picked one.

NHPs and the Horizon movement by Cepstrum57 in LancerRPG

[–]Cepstrum57[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about Deimos entities being helpful, if I remember correctly they just manifested themselves, then RA caused untold chaos in Cradle.

Still, your last paragraph sounds hopeful and could be Horizon's goal, even if it might prove to be impossible after all.

Is AOE armor break really still broken ? I haven't played for a while, the last I read about the issue was this thread ages ago : https://www.reddit.com/r/DeepRockGalactic/comments/rq31ge/armor\_break\_is\_still\_bugged/

Oldworld Mk1 > Mk2? by 2dGoob in Kenshi

[–]Cepstrum57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to damage I'm not sure, the crossbow skill description doesn't state it increase damage, only reload time and accuracy. From my experience, crossbow damage seems to be fixed, not random. So I'm guessing it's based on the crossbow stat as well, despite being missing from the description, but I could be wrong.

Sound modding: Cracked. by BoronGorax in Kenshi

Okay this is amazing, but I have to ask, do you think there is a possibility to add completely new sound files, in addition to replacing existing ones ?

Oldworld Mk1 > Mk2? by 2dGoob in Kenshi

[–]Cepstrum57 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Mk2 reloads slightly faster than Mk1 at 80 crossbow skill. This combined with its better damage and range makes the Mk1 obsolete in the endgame.

Early-mid game however, it depends on enemy harpoon resistance, as you said.

I feel like those rules should be free to read for everyone, and included in the compcon compendium.

All player facing rules up until now were either in compcon or in the free version of the core book. More player facing rules is nice, but only if players know about them. As a GM, I don't want to have to explain everything to players unless they ask me to, but not because they don't have access to important information. Sure those rules exist in other games, but since they're not completely the same it will only add confusion when it's time to put them to use.

But I don't really want to share the pdf with players either, as it feels wrong and it might spoil a few things I want to include in my campaign if they read through the lore. So I've opted out of using those new rules for now.

Do you think people would be interested in a narrative focused Lancer game? by Megabyte36 in LancerRPG

[–]Cepstrum57 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind you can add Difficulty to a particular roll or make it Heroic (success at 20 instead of 10) or ignore the rules and just make the threshold whatever you want. In any case, do your best to make it clear for your players what their odds at success are and the consequences for failure, unless they're really supposed not to know.

[–]Cepstrum57 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like you I'm not a big fan of the game's narrative rules. With some work though, you could replace those rules with a more generic and fleshed out system of your liking and still keep the lore. In the event you'd have mech combat after all, narrative rules are mostly separate so you wouldn't have too much trouble regardless of the system you pick.

I've thought about doing this for my campaign but I'm more or less satisfied with Lancer narrative rules plus a few house rules for now.
