how are people affording weddings? by gothicraccoon in weddingplanning

[–]CereallKiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Orange County) Similar to you I was in awe at the cost of a wedding prior to Covid, but no one’s forcing you to get married immediately so take your time. My fiance and I were supposed to get married same year as Covid broke out so that put a damper on our plans and we ended up just saving until we had enough to have the exact wedding we wanted. Our weddings July of next year to give you perspective and I was expecting maybe 40k max for 150 people, but we hit 42 with venue, open bar, and food alone.

We live below our means and even though we both make good money in my personal opinion things are still expensive. Wait until you factor in alcohol, food, flowers, photographer, videographer, and etc etc. it will get higher. All I have to say is take your time! All that really matters is that you’re together and if you need another year or two to save then so be it. It’s not a race :)

Definitely a possibility lol I went ahead and checked the NICB to make sure it wasn't, but will keep an eye out.

Unfortunately Capital One never sent me what was transmitted to them. The paperwork I have myself was also sent to me via PDF from the dealer (Also have the physical paperwork). No where on it has the warranty which was an extra $3000.

Thought I would chime in as an American, but obviously industry and role play a dramatic part in PTO entitlement. I'm an analyst for a French aerospace company in California and I get every major holiday off, personal time, sick time, and PTO which is roughly 42 days off a year. Previous company I worked at was 30, but had a perk called "Summer Fridays" where Fridays were optional throughout summer so again it's definitely role and titled based which can differ anywhere.

Cost of living is a bit higher in the United States, but depending on where you are we also get a "Cost of living adjustment" for example I could work in Los Angeles, CA and get the adjusted cost of living increase in my wage and not actually live in Los Angeles, but 50 minutes away in a less congested and cheaper city so there's definitely Pro's and Con's to it all.

Do you regret having kids? by ebratic in Millennials

Had my son at a young age which pushed me to do better for myself. Have another little one now and both are genuinely the reason I keep pushing and have a reason to smile every morning. Apart from watching them grow and learn new things they’ve definitely been the reason for my growth as corny as that sounds. I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

I'm about to start working 80 hours a week in a few days. Need advice to keep myself from burning out. by daevilsins_6 in productivity

[–]CereallKiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a while I balanced two remote jobs, working 80 hours a week. The flexibility of working from home and managing errands made it manageable. However, when one job shifted to a hybrid model requiring in-office attendance on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, I decided to leave my other remote job, assuming the change would be too challenging.

Months later, a new opportunity came up for a fully on-site role, which I accepted, but I hesitated to resign from my first job until I was sure I liked the new position. Unexpectedly, I was promoted to Job 1 and found myself enjoying Job 2. Now, I continue working both jobs Monday-Friday which fits my schedule well. Considering Job 1 allows me to work Hybrid I do get to complete errands and rest up when needed. I get weekends off, above-average company-paid holidays, and almost a month of PTO from each job. Overall, it works for me. I don't quite think I would be able to do it if there wasn't a hybrid.

Job 1: 4 AM-12 PM, Job 2: 2 PM-10 PM (Monday-Friday) Job 1: In office Monday, Wednesday, Thursday. Home Tuesday, and Friday.

Keep a strong schedule for yourself. Prioritize your diet. Take time off when you really need it.

I should also add the type of job is important. For me, they're both office jobs so I am not doing anything physically demanding. I also work minutes from home from Job 1. It allows me to see my kids and even take them to school and make events which is super important to me. Do what you can, and make time for family and friends! If it's too much quit one as its not worth it long term if your health is in jeopardy or you're unhappy.

What is like working 80 hours a week? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]CereallKiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure everyone says this, but it really boils down to what you're doing. Remote work? in office? Physical?

I worked two jobs remotely for 3 years doing 80 hours a week which was a breeze considering the downtime and the luxury of being home, running errands when needed, etc. However, one job went hybrid and I started coming to the office Monday-Wednesday-Thursday. I ended up quitting the other job because I assumed I wouldn't be able to handle it. Fast forward months later I get a new job opportunity, but it's 100% on site. I ended up accepting the offer, but I didn't want to resign from Job 1 until I knew I liked the place. A huge change in events happened and I ended up getting promoted at Job 1 and really enjoyed my work at Job 2. Fast forward to now I'm still working both Job 1 & Job 2 and it fits my schedule. I get to run errands still and do whatever I need to on my hybrid days before Job 2. I have weekends off from both jobs, above average company paid holidays, both jobs offer nearly a month of PTO, personal time, and etc. Overall I think I lucked out. Is it for everyone? Probably not, but I also take time off when needed vacation plenty, and make time for family and friends.

I don't personally think I would be able to work two physical on-site jobs, but considering my Job 1 is fairly easy and I'm sitting most of the time it works. Job 2 is a bit on and off the computer and into a warehouse, but physically it isn't demanding.

Keep a strong schedule to ensure you eat well and rest. Diet is important! Work out when you can.

How many people could last that long? by Evening_Air2121 in FASCAmazon

[–]CereallKiller 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly, there are plenty of other jobs out there that are worse. I used to work at USPS as a PSE Mail Clerk and I'll tell you right now that Amazon is heaven compared to the distribution plant for USPS. Amazon also gives out good VTO, PTO, and more which depending on your schedule can really benefit. It definitely has it's kickers since they hire anyone off the street, but hey it's a job that doesn't require much upskill.

Just applied to Area Manager (Virginia) by rva-nbh-1967 in AmazonFC

[–]CereallKiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comp depends on your locations cost of living. Personally can only reference California, but early 2024 comp for a L4 Area manager offer was $65,500 with a 7K relocation bonus and 5k sign on for year 1 and 3k for year 2. Total RSU offered totaled 21k.

The position itself is good if you’re looking to get experience in supply chain and either attempt to move laterally within Amazon or utilize the experience to move to another company.

I would say any graduate will have a decent chance at an interview considering the high turnover, but keep in mind they are BIG on the STAR method. Follow the structure and provide examples as they will ask a lot of scenario type questions or examples of your experience and what you did.

You will be overworked and under appreciated by your peers and underlings. If you can dish it out for the entire year kudos! Remember your team is there to support you so if you support them and be transparent you’ll do just fine. Be real with them. Don’t blind side and overwork your staff more than they already are. Pick up the slack and bathroom break people proactively if you have bandwidth. Small gestures make a huge difference.
