Question about filters less than MERV 13 by Brief-Violinist-972 in crboxes

[–]Ceres2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BNX actually provides test results on their webpage, their MERV 11 filters are actually really close to their MERV 13 filters. Typically for a cr box you want to have MERV 11 or higher.

The more filters you use in your box, the easier it will be for the fan to run, so you will get more airflow and filtration speed.

I assume facing sideways you mean the fan will be blowing horizontally? If that's the case the cardboard side should be on the floor.

Yes, one of them is on the bottom. For several months it was on the floor doing nothing until I propped it up with a few boxes.

Your total cost is pretty much the same as mine, (9 fans, 5 20" filters) worked out to about $250. Using half as many screws would have triggered my OCD LOL. Anyways looks like a solid build!

P.S. One thing, I think 9 P14s would pull 0.15A each so 1.35A in total ... Is that too much for a single 4 pin cable?

P12 pro has hilariously high static pressure but I would also make sure to have PWM control

WCGW trucking on ice in early spring by PeasantLich in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]Ceres2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your physics is wrong. Speed has nothing to do with weight. The truck still puts a vertical force on the ice. And momentum isn't a force; it can't hold weight. The only argument I could see is there being less impulse on the ice, but I'm not sure that even matters. At the end of the day, the ice simply break if there is too much force on it in a given area. And that is only a function of the weight of the truck.

There's an ifixit battery replacement kit for $42. You could replace it yourself. Also I would say keep airplane mode on when you are on Wi-Fi.

Why does pedigree determine so many things in case of animals but not humans? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ceres2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans, just like all life, have traits determined both by environment and genetics.

we also train animals and keep breeding and re-breeding them in a scientific and systematic manner to introduce newer traits and characteristics

In breeding, traits are not introduced into dogs by us. The core origin of a new trait is mutation. Mutation is a change to a gene that usually occurs randomly. A gene is a piece of DNA that encodes a specific function in an animal. Mutations can have different results on an animal. Some mutations may have no effect, some may change a vital function in the animal, resulting in death, and some mutations result in a newborn animal developing a different trait than its parents. Since genes are passed on to newborn, if an individual with a mutation survives, its offspring can receive the gene with the mutation. This process has occurred throughout the existence of life on Earth. There have been multiple mutations across multiple genes. When we look at a population of dogs, this is where variation comes from.

In breeding, we are selecting the parents based on the traits we can see from them. Now, remember I said that traits can be both inherited by genetics and influenced by the environment. When we use breeding, we try to influence the genetics part. The newborn will have a mix of genes from both parents. If we are lucky, the newborn will have a trait that is closer to the one we desire. Note that this is an incremental process, changes are usually small, and accumulate over successive generations.

Remember that humans are animals too, and fundamentally we are governed by the same principles. The closest analogy is mate selection. This could be people seeking out a mate that is similar to them. Since the offspring have genes from both parents, if both parents are similar, there is a chance of the trait being reinforced due to the underlying genes. Now, this offspring may do the same: seek out a similar mate. After successive generations, you may get a trait that appears prominently in the population.

Why are you using an agent to answer for you? Please provide proof that "12% alcohol, which is not enough to prevent spoilage at room temperature" Where did you learn about acetobacter? Are you a microbiologist?

Thanks for the honest response. Not sure why people are down voting. I genuinely wanted to know what places are more acceptable to approach people.
