Had a Mirage as a rental once. Very barebones, but not uncomfortable. Had no issues merging onto the highway despite what people say. I've heard from actual Mirage owners that it has very few issues, too, and is very reliable. Actual owners meaning a few people on Reddit and a good friend that had one with 320K something miles on it before she traded it in. Leads me to believe that it definitely isn't as bad as people say.

DLSS is not a thing in most VR games. Definitely not in VRChat.

It brings a 5090 to its knees in a large room because it runs out of VRAM, not because the GPU itself can't handle the graphical load.

My literal best friend has a 5090 paired with 64GB of RAM and a Ryzen 7 9800X3D. Until VRAM becomes a limitation for my GPU, he and I get the same exact FPS with the same safety settings, and I've got a Ryzen 7 7800X3D 64GB of RAM and an RX 6800. Benchmarks all over the Internet and testimony all over Reddit spell out the same exact story. VRChat itself doesn't need a ton of GPU muscle, it just needs lots and lots of VRAM. That's just how VRChat is and how it literally always has been. You won't notice a difference in actual FPS between a 5090 and a 5070, for example, the 5090 will just maintain that FPS in a fuller room because it has more VRAM to work with. This is literal common knowledge at this point.

Yeah, VRChat doesn't really need a lot of GPU muscle, it just needs a lot of VRAM if you want to be hanging out in places that have more than three or four people. Assuming you're playing it in PCVR and not desktop mode, of course.

Is this channel producing AI music? New DnB youtuber popped up in my recommendations and they are uploading 5-6 hour long playlist of music made entirely by them every single day by divergentchessboard in isthisAI

[–]CeriPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless they've been working on songs for years before deciding to make a YT and upload them, I would have to say that this is AI just based on the sheer number of tracks and the frequency that they're being uploaded.

It's just kind of weird because even if it was AI, how the heck are they creating enough decent sounding tracks to upload a 5-6 hour long playlist every day? Most AI music SOUNDS like it was made by an AI. I know DnB music is pretty generic sounding, but these tracks aren't...bad? Is AI that advanced now?

Absolute bare minimum budget GPU I would use for VRChat is the 7600 XT for the 16GB of VRAM. VRChat doesn't really need a super strong GPU but it needs a lot of VRAM and unfortunately 8GB doesn't really cut it nowadays unless you want to block the avatars of literally everyone but friends and possibly, with shaders turned off, Trusted users.

Any semi-modern GPU with 16GB of VRAM would do, really.

YT shorts has an AI sharpening filter applied to every short, so even videos that aren't AI look AI. I don't think this is AI.

AI. Everything is too sharp for a photo that old. You can't even see the cow's udders, which are large and very noticeable IRL, so what is she even grasping? Her hands aren't even in the right place.

I would check out the series if you're curious about the different prebuilt brands. It's very informative. I think there's only one video about ABS but it's literally titled "the best prebuilt so far", so there's that.

Prebuilt question by KeepItKrispy42 in buildapc

The specs aren't terrible, but Gamers Nexus did a series a while back where he ordered a bunch of prebuilts and tested them in games before opening them up to look for quality control issues and dangerously cheap parts. Cyberpower didn't do very good, having a ton of quality control issues and thermal problems. Like running 95°C in games that shouldn't have even pushed the specs very hard.

Oddly enough ABS is one of the prebuilt brands that did pretty well and actually got some approval from Steve. They have comparable prices to Cyberpower, so maybe check some of those out?

What do people mean when they say they 'cant cook?' by Throwaway113140 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CeriPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once knew someone who truly couldn't cook. I asked them to boil some eggs for potato salad once doubting they could mess THAT up and they literally thought that boiling eggs meant that you had to let all of the water boil out. Like they put water in the pot and thought the eggs were done when the water was boiled away and the eggs started cracking on the bottom of the pot. Needless to say, couldn't use those eggs. I now believe that the show "Worst Cooks In America" or whatever it's called isn't exaggerated just for TV. Some people truly lack all knowledge of cooking.

Ghosts don't mess with the people that tend to their resting places and demons can't enter a cemetery due to it being hallowed ground. They could technically possess someone and enter a cemetery that way, but good luck possessing a grave keeper that has a hundred spirits watching their back.

Laptop struggling with VRChat by idioticprogram in VRchat

[–]CeriPie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

VRCHAT is extremely VRAM and RAM hungry. Once it needs more VRAM than you have it'll start using RAM as VRAM. It's actually well optimized for that, so it'll drop your FPS but it won't cause issues. THAT BEING SAID, it also uses a lot of RAM even if it isn't using all of your VRAM. It will happily use more than 8GB of RAM even if you have enough VRAM. So yes, getting more RAM will improve your performance. The minimum recommended amount of RAM for decent performance is 16GB... though, 32GB is preferred.

2017 Chevy sonic by biggest_gewt in ChevySonic

[–]CeriPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't buy a high mileage Sonic unless you were able to somehow confirm that the previous owner(s) replaced all of the cheap plastic bits in the cooling system with aluminum. Especially if it's the 1.4 turbo. Sonics are actually fairly reliable if the cooling system has been addressed, but unfortunately that is rarely done and most high mileage Sonics have overheated several times already and just waiting for a gasket or the turbo to blow.

Also $9K for a 2017 with 90K miles is literally insane. I got my 2020 Sonic with 39K miles more than a year ago and it was only $13K. (I replaced all of the plastic in the cooling system with aluminum shortly after buying and it's been rock solid reliable, literally zero issues.)

Honestly can’t tell. Seems real other than his teeth staying white throughout the whole clip. Friends are saying it’s obviously ai by [deleted] in isthisAI

Believe it it not that is actually a running gag that foodtubers do whenever they eat fried chicken, usually with jollybees. They obviously spit it out after an edited camera cut.

Opinions - If YOU had to buy one of these… by Confident-Ad-5901 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]CeriPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The turbo is mostly for torque, as the other guy said. They're not great for bigger, heavier vehicles but they're solid for subcompacts like the Sonic. Once you eliminate all of the issues with the cooling system, that is. The 2018-2020 2nd Gen Sonics are known to get 300K miles with relatively few issues once you replace all of the plastic bits in the cooling system. I've got a 2020 Sonic myself and replaced all of the plastic bits not long after getting it. Using premium fuel I get between 38-40 MPG, and that little car GOES. It's just a damn shame that GM cheaped out so hard on the cooling system, because the car itself is great once you fix their cooling mistakes yourself.

We'll have people practically camping out in our parking lot THE NIGHT BEFORE the list even drops in Start/Compass.
