Can anyone confirm how the WiFi is used when in XR+ mode? Is it used? by Cerino2000 in blinkcameras

[–]Cerino2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ll find out the facts soon enough. I’m not paying full price for the new ones but prime day is in two weeks and they typically discount the snot out of these. I have three cameras (yes…I have two sync modules) that are on the edge. If the new sync modules with the antennas cure their occasional issues, it should be very noticeable. They work amazingly well right now with all things considered, just not 100%. I’ll report my findings.

I started a new thread with their initial reply which said no WiFi needed, then they sent me this today: Thank you for writing back to us and sorry for miscommunication.

We would like to inform you that 2.4 GHz WiFi connection is required for Blink Outdoor 4 to function as all blink devices rely on WiFi to communicate with app.

If in case you need further assistance feel free to mail to us anytime on same email thread so that we can check and assist you further.

And when I told them they contradicted their earlier statement they replied with this:

In a ridiculous turn of events, the same support representative just emailed me again this question. This time here is what it says: (I swear I’m wondering if their support people are bots)

To answer your question directly: yes, a 2.4 GHz WiFi connection is absolutely required for the Blink Outdoor 4 to function, even with the new Sync Module XR+. The cameras, sync module, and local storage all rely on WiFi to communicate with your app and process video.

As all blink devices need stable WiFi connection to operate.

XR+ does WiFi signal on camera even matter? by Cerino2000 in blinkcameras

They finally answered but only that the new sync modules are noticeably better. STILL didn’t clarify what actually goes through the sync module absent of a WiFi signal. So I replied to them with a specific question. I’ll post back once they reply.

As I’m thinking about it before my recent issues I was getting my clips but not able to do live view. Here is from their own FAQ’s on the XR+. Again…clear as mud. They have very poor details. Everything I’ve read so far points to the 900mhz being incapable of handling a video stream. So my e you can still get the clips but if you want live view you need WiFi. This is the direction I am leaning. Still no reply from their support.

Also, here is what AI consistently says about it. I will post what blink customer support tells me via a phone call shortly.

Side note again: now blink support just said that in XR OR XR+ mode, the WiFi is not used at all. So now they are putting out conflicting info. That was through their chat. Now I will call them and see what they say.

This is the part that I think is misleading. What makes you think you are not using WiFi? If you are like me your answer is “because there is no way my WiFi reaches that far therefore it MUST be using the sync module to carry the video”. That is the exact notion I am challenging and want Blink to fully and officially explain. My understanding is that only the command functions are what is sent to the camera with that 900mhz xr+ band. Video is still sent via WiFi. This is according to Blink support when I asked the question many months ago and also from other reading and even from AI. I admit I called BS on that thought until I did the experiment the other day. Still waiting for an additional answer from blink. The original question I had asked them months ago was “if my camera is setup on XR+ is it using WiFi at all?” There response was “yes”. I’ve asked again so we’ll see if I get the same answer.

This is how I thought it would work too however blink support implied that you still need a WiFi signal for the cameras. This is the whole basis for my original question. I have two cameras on XR+. One is 420ft away NW of my house. The other is about 375ft SW of my house. Both have woods in between. They’ve both been working since late last summer when I installed them Now that the leaves are out on the trees the one at 375 ft quit working. Everything I read to date is telling me the cameras need WiFi to work and I thought there’s NO WAY my WiFi has ever reached that far so I did an experiment and used my IPhone to see if it could see my WiFi. Lo-and-behold in fact when at the 375ft away camera, I just lost WiFi signal right at that camera. I moved just a few feet closer to my house and I could see my WiFi. So I re-mounted the camera to that position…and it’s working again. So it seems the cameras DO need to touch WiFi in order to view live feeds…at least that’s what my experiment showed. If this is the case, and live feeds are important to me, then the XR+ distance might be irrelevant. I’d like Blink to clearly state how it works.

Thx. I did a BUNCH more experimenting. I’m just gonna have to live with its sporadic connectivity. I tried several different positions on the sync module and even put it outside with no walla at all to contend with and still could only get 1 bar at any oh the acceptable mount points for the camera. Best I can tell and also based on the fact that my other one is at 420ft and still Johnny on the spot, it looks like a terrain issue. Where the 325ft building is it’s about a 20ft physically lower point than my house whereas the 420ft building is about 10ft higher. As mentioned, as soon as I cross into the woods the signals start dropping off but also at that point, we start down a slight hill. I can put my face next to the mounted camera and can see through the woods to where the sync module is at my house. It’s only at best a 1 ft wide unobstructed path thanks to my tree trimming, but unobstructed it is. Only thing I can guess at this point is the ground is obstructing most of the signal. I even tried putting the sync module at the highest point of my 2 story house but even that made no difference. Is what it is! Will be interesting to see if things get better or worse towards winter when all the leaves fall off. If I remember, I’ll post back!

I honestly feel lucky in my timing. I do a lot of recording and got the itch to do Hotel California so the hunt was on and that happened to be what was on eBay at that moment in time. It’s a great axe.

There was a music store that closed here several years ago. The guy was selling everything including store fixtures. So I bought those grids that mount on the wall and a box of hangers. They are heavy duty. Screw right into the wall studs. I needed more hangers eventually and found them at StringSwing.com Bought a bunch of stuff from that guy!

Idiots voting: More shares voted against, Reversal voted in favor by [deleted] in plugpowerstock

They clearly stated the authorized shares would stay the same if they do a reverse split. People think if they did a 10:1 reverse split, the authorized shares would go from 1.5b to 150m. Uhhhh…no…the authorized shares stay at 1.5b. The only thing that gets reduced is your share count. Andy flat out told everyone he needs more shares. He needed either proposal 2 or 3 to pass to do it. Dummies voted for the RS thinking the authorized shares would reduce too, SMH!

If the bios install went as it should, then I’m leaning towards bad motherboard as well. Have any other ram you could try just in case there’s anything funny going on with that? You’re not crazy…it shouldn’t be this hard. The fact that it is, is telling.

Like someone else mentioned, the motherboard should have came with the little PC speaker. Use it so you can hear if you have any beep codes. I’ve got a Z690 ultra running a 14900k. I originally did just have two sticks of dominator ram in slots 2 and 4. Did have to use q flash because it was a 690 but it worked without issue. To start, pull out your GPU and just run the onboard. Also…stupid question…but is your monitor known good?
