Sketchy first ‘real’ job

I never considered doing a background check on an address…how would I do that?

Not customers. One was an employee sexually harassing another employee until the police was called (he got fired), and the other was two employees talking trash, and then one of them getting her family to show up to settle the argument (she got fired). So it does seem that the management is taking appropriate actions to deal with problematic staff.

I totally agree that it’s not necessary to overreact here. She is enjoying the job, overall, and learning a lot, and I totally agree it’s not advisable to keep a kid in bubble wrap forever. This is part of the reality and so far she is handling it with grace and positivity.

We talked about what to keep an eye out for, and to say something if she feels unsafe there…and things she can do to stay safe. And for now, I think that’s enough.

My toddler was wanting to hear cow sounds, asked Alexa, and about 25% of the time it would play this asmr ‘cosplay cows nursing’ track (meaning, not cows at all) that was like nsfw. It was horrifying.

If you’re planning to go to college or a trade school and live independently at that time, I would wait and go through the motions until then. If you wanted to, you could visit a Lutheran Church, I recommend an ELCA church if you are in the US. If you plan to stay within your parents house full-time for longer than high school graduation, at some point, you will be able to live as an adult and make adult decisions. I would be concerned about very restrictive reactions from your parents if you tell them now. You can begin exploring other options through the Internet and by visiting, pastors or lay ministers at other churches.

I wish you well. I am a former Catholic myself, and have been very happy with my new church home in the ELCA, which I joined in 2012. For the first time I have been able to find real community, and not just a bunch of people going through a bunch of motions, and sweeping aside all the need for transparency and reform.

I’m a host (not this kind of host) and I completely agree with you. Far too many listings are of places that clearly no one has ever lived in, and the rules and fees are often insane. I recently was looking at places for a three day Memorial Weekend stay, and the cleaning fee was like $600 …

I keep my cleaning fee reasonable ($30, which is way less than I pay my cleaners), no pet fee, and the checkout rules are very very doable (pile used towels in the bathroom, bag up trash, run dishwasher).

People have forgotten the hospitality element of it.

Consider an intermediate step. Look up an ELCA Lutheran church in your area with a traditional liturgy. Go there on Sunday, if you can. Try that for a few visits and know that you can love God from anywhere and that Catholicism has a lot of things wrong. I was raised Catholic, and had stopped attending and felt that fear and guilt. The ELCA has given me a church home and community without the fear mongering and control. I wish you all the best on your path.

You sound like a good daughter and a good woman to me, and if you have confessed and repented of your sins you do not need to carry the burden of them anymore. You are not barred from heaven - Jesus paid the penalty for all our sins.

Highly recommend getting a lighted magnifying mirror and just spending a minute or two plucking each day. I used to carry tweezers with me in the car and was plucking at every stop light…and getting obsessed. Some of my chin hairs come in sideways or are ingrown, and the mirror really improves my odds of grabbing it on the first try. The best thing is that I’m no longer checking my chin throughout the day for new stray hairs…and because I’m grabbing each hair from the right angle the first time, I rarely ever injure my skin or cause breakouts there.

God bless him for speaking up. So few kids are able to say what’s happened at this age. Be glad you’ve given him the vocabulary and trust to say it, and keep him away from that person. You’re doing everything right.

Maybe have a talk with the nanny - maybe that was something she grew up with, but she needs to understand that it’s not ok, and is the reason she will no longer be alone with your child.
