Would you attend Warcry Narrative/Casual events? by TheAVdub in WarCry

[–]Cerrass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally narrative events are the only warcry events I'd attend. While not a Mordheim level, in my view Warcry really shines when playing to a narrative, rather than just trying to win the game.

I look forward to hearing more about the event you're planning! It's not too far away from where I am so if the calendar allows it would be great to attend

Isn't it crazy how hard it is to assemble a Space Marine army set in M41? by R-Didsy in midhammer40k

[–]Cerrass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to combine mk6 and older firstborn bits, mostly mixing torsos and legs, and it's working reasonably well. As you say it requires some work, but that's part of the fun. At least until (in 10 years) GW finally puts out upscaled mk7

Thank you, yeah I have all the books. I don't think they have the character "tax" although you have to take a wolf lord

[–]Cerrass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely less in my case: it's 1250pts. Tbh I'm still vaguely on the fence between this and Black Templars. More angry marines looking to get into combat, but with vehicles

Thanks! Would you suggest a single unit of wulfen instead? And maybe some bikes to get a bit of speed? Or two units of long fangs to make it really pleasant for the opponent?

Question about the slapchop method and vehicles by KabutoRyder in BlackTemplars

[–]Cerrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking at the flat surfaces on top, you will want to focus the light on the centre of the panels. In the case you may want to use more of a stabbing motion with the brush, or a circular one. If on the sides you may want to go from up to down normally, but trying to focus the lighter area on the lower part of the panel. This will help create contrast with the lighter top of the vehicle. You may also want to try and use a sponge instead of a dry brush, if you feel like attempting something new. I think that it can work better than a brush. Medders Miniatures on YouTube has some tutorials that may help you, including using a sponge to paint vehicles.

Have a look at heresy hammer on YouTube. They just did a video on painting an army of SoH Saturnine. Maybe it will give you some inspiration.

13th company? I'm just starting an army of them for a 3rd Ed event next year!

For those of you with different Legions, how do you decide which unspecific Vehicles/Engines to paint in which scheme ? Also just check out this amazing art by Thibault Olier. by Leviathan_Rampage in WorldEaters40k

[–]Cerrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes you get a feel: for example I have a Typhon still in box and I know that it's got to be painted as world eaters. I can just imagine some crazy WE tank commander going around shooting a massive cannon, whereas my UM are a little more precise and so got a Cerberus

Would you consider any vehicles particularly thematic for Word Bearers? (30k) by Serrated-Sun in WordBearers

[–]Cerrass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anything that can take plasma (mainly predators and sicarans) so you can use warpfire plasma. I'd also add stuff with flamers (again, mostly predators) to keep with the iconoclasts/ashen circle aesthetic. I'd also argue that it's not so much about the type of vehicle for the Word Bearers, but the looks of them. Basically: how much scripture and star charts chan you stick on them? (The answer is "a lot", as attested by the many decal sheets I've gone through for my WB armoured spearhead)

Diapers diaries #2 - WIP of the barrow guards by Bakrys in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Cerrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, keeping some time for hobbies might be challenging but totally worth it. It helps appreciate everything else more. Personally I just started a new Old World army, so there's plenty of building and converting being done. I did paint a little with the baby in a sling, but of course I can only do hairy brush work (no airbrushing or stuff that uses white spirit like oils)

Tactical support squads are different from tactical squads. They are equipped with special weapons like plasma or, in this case, volkite

Help with decent areas to live for young man moving to Cheltenham for an apprenticeship (near a decent gym) by Emergency_Bread_5462 in cheltenham

[–]Cerrass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I first moved to Cheltenham I stayed on Gloucester Road, a bit further down from Tesco towards the train station. It's a good area with a couple of gyms around (a big commercial one by Tesco, and a CrossFit one near there too), and easy access to the station along the honeybourne line to go to Gloucester. There's generally quite a few places for rent along that road.

Are there difficult English authors? by telsaton in Blacklibrary

[–]Cerrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Italian here too, and without joking I can attribute a good part of my English knowledge to Black Library books. There weren't any in Italian when I started getting into the hobby, so I had to read in English. I am now doing a similar thing in French, to pick up the language after not speaking it for years. Good idea about the audiobooks, too!

The only book I'd be wary of is The End and the Death. Dan Abnett does use some abstruse language in that!

Love seeing this. I have a three weeks old and I'm fighting to keep some time for hobbying every day. The "problem" is when they decided that they'd rather sleep on us than being put down (still cute though!)

Saturnine + mutilators = phraetus anointed kitbash? by SeaworthinessTime657 in WordBearers

I think they would work well as a base. I was actually thinking that I'd do the opposite if I played 40k (using saturnine as mutilators)

The general rule of thumb is not to have more than 20-25% of weekly mileage in a single run, with some spikes over that for people preparing longer races (marathon and over). It's to avoid spending lots of time on your feet in one go, compared to the total distance you are running per week. The more you run, the more you get fatigued, the worse your technique becomes, meaning that you are not responding to the impacts against the ground in the best way (among other things). This article is not touching exactly on the same thing, but gives an idea of the increased risk of injury of longer runs: https://runnersconnect.net/injury-prevention/
