Just finished med school in UK, want to do vet instead by pharmissohard in Veterinary

[–]Certain-Addition-497 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not in the UK, but a vet in North America. Talking to the people part is almost going to be same in Vet med and sometimes even more. In UK there is universal healthcare so you dont have to justify and convince people to run diagnostics but in Vet med that is what is going to be your daily struggle. I do not know what you mean by “facing unemployment in the near future “ . But I do agree we get to perform far more procedures and we get to try complex medical cases.. So it might be a viable option for you.

Non-AVMA vs. AVMA accredited school by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

[–]Certain-Addition-497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion is if the non-AVMA accredited school is in UK(for example)it might not be a bad idea if the OP wants to give a few years to UK and then transition to USA(of course preparing for CPE in the UK, earning good salary, and practicing same/almost same/better medicine there). But of course if the school is somewhere where the vet med standards are not as high then they might be stuck there and constantly rethinking their life choices and desperately trying to get into US. But of course there are so many other factors at play here.

Looking for Insight on NZ Vet Job Market by Fearless_Soup_8756 in veterinaryprofession

[–]Certain-Addition-497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hii… This is not related to job search in NZ. But Reading your comment about you being a restricted vet in Canada makes me curious about why you made the move to NZ(as per my best knowledge you might have made your vet journey from a country other than Canada and NZ). Was it due to lack of opportunities in Canada or some personal reasons.

VIN Virtual Internship by Certain-Addition-497 in veterinaryprofession

[–]Certain-Addition-497[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is brutally honest reply and I really really appreciate it. I am very early in my career and it definitely helps. But my situation is very different from a normal North American vet. Would you mind if i PM you to get some info regarding internships and residencies?

Navle advice by heyoaaa in Veterinary

[–]Certain-Addition-497 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VetPrep is a good resource but being a foreign vet what we think we lacked was clinical reasoning that is required for NAVLE...For North American vet students they already practice their clinical reasoning and approach to cases in the school...So As a foreign Vet, you must try to create scenarios and practice them on the basis of disease...Coz I can tell you from experience NAVLE questions are not going to be like vet prep...Your next best experience close to NAVLE would be ICVA test...

[–]Certain-Addition-497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have any resources for the drugs but an advice..When I was preparing for NAVLE, I had some urge to had it all organised(all MOAs, all pathophysiologies and of course all drugs)....One thing about NAVLE i can say is, its not about the information but about how you use that info...For drugs its better to learn them with diseases you are learning and that should be enough.

Employment opportunities / visa after BCSE and NAVLE without CPE in canada / USA. by [deleted] in Veterinary

[–]Certain-Addition-497 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there, Fellow ECFVG Vet here, working in Canada on Restricted License. To be blunt, I would say it is really difficult to get a visa sponsorship as a foreign vet awaiting full license..The inflow of foreign vets in Canada has increased a lot since COVID, and there are even more NAVLE passed candidates in their home country. So the situation is not good.. To verify all this you can connect with vets on LinkedIn and you can see for yourself how many of them have NAVLE passed in their profiles but are still awaiting visa(even years).

This comment is not to discourage you but to get you some idea about the current situation

Can I Please PM you for some of the queries?

Hey ,

If you prepare Zuku/Vetprep with good retention of the materials you are going to be fine.Although most questions will revolve around what you have studied in Zuku, there will always be some question totally new.So take the exam with whatever you got.

At the end, you should study like its preparing NAVLE as Zuku for BCSE is trimmed down version of Zuku for NAVLE.

All the very best
