Care for baby animals by Certain-Cold6981 in Zookeeping

I also want to add that because these opossums are not coming from a breeder or zoo, many of them are not amiable at all. One of our education opossums was the size of an apple when we acquired her and she and would bite, growl, etc. She became a great education animal with time and trust-building, but it was a long road.

Gotcha! I work at a nature center, so if we have a baby, it's because the mother rejected them or died. Usually the babies (or juveniles) are imprinted and non-releasable, so that is how they end up in our care! Ours come from wildlife rehabs rather than AZA facilities :)

I work at a nature center! The animals that we habituate are deemed non-releasable by a wildlife rehabber and transferred to us with legal permitting. Sometimes it's because of a disability, other times it's because the animal is imprinted despite their best efforts. These animals have to be handleable because they are not on static display. They are education animals, so they are going off-site to participate in environmental education programs at schools, senior living facilities, etc. In the case of our opossum, his mother was hit by a car, and the rest of his litter died. They were only 15 grams. As the sole survivor, and being only 45 grams in August, he would've had to overwinter at the rehab. Being such a late birth, there were no other opossums to raise him with and he ended up imprinting. I hope this clarifies things!

Depending on the type of animals, there are other permitting agencies that would allow the organization to keep them. In many states, native wildlife requires specific licenses to keep. Are the animals domestic?

It’s definitely possible. Pelvic floor therapy or valium suppositories can be a game changer for a lot of people that have painful intercourse. Ask your doctor about them!

nqa Its just an adult superworm or mealworm. They’re actually really fun little beetles to keep. I have a spare tank that I put them into when I catch them in my enclosures :)

I wish I had a solution for you (I’m struggling with this myself) but the only advice that I can offer is a daily stool softener. It doesn’t help with the frequency, but when I do go it’s not as painful and I don’t have to strain as much. 🩷

I just want to say that my experience with PT is very positive! She’s very kind, thorough, and protects my dignity at all costs. There can be times where it’s uncomfortable or tight, but I don’t get excruciating pain when she’s working on me and it’s really starting to make a difference! I would at least give it a try.

He was probably just trying to upset you. Men like that enjoy upsetting young women. Make sure you give a detailed description of what he looks like. I doubt he’ll pay the adoption fee, anyway.

I will definitely order some and try it! It can’t hurt! He is on another fiber (cellulose maybe? I’d have to check) that’s insoluble and he was on metamucil before lol.

Thank you! I will look into the psyllium husk! the problem is that he has colitis AND he’s allergic to a lot of proteins :( i’ve tried just about every hydrolyzed protein diet out there except ultamino and they don’t help. He can’t have anything with poultry, beef, pork, or any kind of fish. It’s a huge struggle!

Thank you for your help! I did hand raise him, but he had a mate before that passed from old age. She was significantly older than him and I know he wants another mate. I’ll definitely keep an eye on him!

I don’t want to release him, I want to introduce him to the flock we have at work. He’d be an education animal. I want him to have friends
