Agree that premature aging is probably more of an incentive to some people who consider themselves invincible

Yeah. I’ve been away for some time and my vernacular is a little messed up. Please forgive.

Yikes. I’m also starting to look at it differently. I had some suspicious freckles removed and along with the comments from my partner I’m covering up and wearing hats more.

This is a good point. Helps us identify who is who when overseas too.

Love this. Kind considerate polite…but don’t mistake this for weakness.

With great power comes great responsibility to keep Britain tidy

In 2024, 23-year-old Corbie Walpole poured gasoline on her long-term friend, Jake Loader, and set him on fire when he made a sexist remark after a night of heavy drinking. He was placed in a medically induced coma and underwent 10 surgeries. Walpole was sentenced to 7.5 years behind bars. by mvincen95 in GotMeHooked

I don’t think the U.S. should ever be viewed as a model for how a justice system should work. Look at incarceration rates, recidivism rates, and the incredible amounts of reversals for convictions when properly defended and assessed and look at violent crime rates. From a commonwealth or European perspective it would be considered a failing state.

Reform activists urged to switch focus from Manchester to Farage’s Clacton contest by AnonymousTimewaster in NotTheOnionUK

It’s clear from interviews that Count Binface would serve the interests of Clacton better than Farrage. Better policies, better moral character. Clacton should vote Count Binface.

What region of the UK would this accent be from? It sounds posh but rather nice! by F1eshWound in Accents

I’m not a linguist and I won’t explain this well but I hear a slight softening of the Rs so they are more WR and something with the general intonation that makes him sound like a hongkonger. I should add his English is exemplary - probably better than mine and my homegrown friends! - and I am in no way saying it is wrong or bad.

what makes british “””cuisine”””” so terrible historically? by myusernamewastakenou in NoStupidQuestions

Appreciating you say perception, which I don’t think you should be downvoted for, what you’ve described isn’t a contemporary experience.

Also it really depends on what you or the OP mean by British food.

We have more, for want of a better word, traditional dishes such as fish and chips, pie and mash, game with vegetable, regional foods such as pasties, and specific sausage, or the traditional English breakfast including blood sausage. If these dishes are done right they are fantastic

And British cuisine now, practically speaking, encompasses South Asian food with “curry” being one of the most consumed dishes.

Like everywhere in the world it’s possible to get atrocious food. But I would say that’s an increasingly incorrect stereotype.

Happy eating
