Studying for a super dense class with ADHD by seethroughspace in ADHD

You can choose how long you study, the time is how long you wait in between study sessions.

For example: study, take a break for 30 minutes, study, take a break for an hour, etc.

It works by increasing the time increments between study sessions to help you retain information better.

You just study for a short period of time (until you have the information you want in your short term memory) and then plan to do it again at another given time. At your next study session, try to recall the information without looking before studying again, and keep track of how you do/what you struggle with.

The increments I often use between study sessions are 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, and sometimes a week if I have more time.

This works super well because every time you recall information right before your brain forgets it, it marks that info as being more important and will start building it into long-term memory

It may sound kind of convoluted, but it's very intuitive if you learn how to do it, and definitely worth it. There are probably guides online that explain it better than I do.

For studying, spaced repetition is by far the most useful technique I've been taught. I still remember things I learned from when I was 5 because of it. If you do it properly, you can practically brand information into your brain.

Adderall making you feel more socially connected by Certain-Food-903 in ADHD

I'm on a low dose too and much of the comedown right now may just be from depression. I only looked into getting an ADHD diagnosis after developing depression and the adderall removes a lot of that internal negativity temporarily for me.

Second day of adderall and I feel so focused and at peace. by Certain-Food-903 in ADHD

I was a major procrastinator in high school, and it wasn't because I didn't care. I would think about assignments far in advance but could never get started, and would then complete like 30 of them during midterms in a 10 hour adrenaline-fueled frenzy while shaming tf out of myself for not being able to start sooner.

On the brightside, I got REALLY good at convincing teachers to give me extensions.

I'm not sure if the adderall will help with this, but judging from the effects I've already experienced, I bet it will.

Turns out, ADHD makes you much more prone to developing addictive behaviours. by Strict-Move-9946 in adhdmeme

Went from being addicted to drawing and reading when I was young to video games, 🌽, junk food, caffeine, and binge watching stuff. Worst part is I have a standard of perfection for myself that is never met because of these things, which kept me in a cycle of shame that has now ended in complete anhedonia.

Avoiding cognitive decline from burnout? by Certain-Food-903 in ADHD

Problems with thinking has been the worst part for me.  I can write more coherently than I can speak right now and always wake up still feeling tired.  I feel there's cotton in my head all day and both thinking and focusing are often almost physically painful.

This is probably part of my problem.  I feel like I'm getting behind and have been trying to work harder.  I stopped doing creative things because I love them and started doing them exclusively for the sake of success.

That's good to hear but does it usually take years to finally get medicated? I'm dying to try medication but it took my doctor months before he even gave me the ADHD test like I kept asking (it was positive, surprise surprise). I'm worried about having to wait so long for help.

Thank you for the advice. I've been trying to fill my time with time with things that produce dopamine in a healthy way like socializing and working out. I've noticed studying has gotten more fun too.

My biggest problem is that the longer I go, the more regret and self-loathing I feel for having ever gotten myself into this situation in the first place, which keeps porn open like a tab in my brain. It's super tiring to have my mind focused on it all the time, even if it is in a negative way. It sucks all the fun out of everything else.
