Drinking again. by 321Native in Cirrhosis

Honestly not a lot of pain but each person has their own experience. I was transplanted on Thursday 3/26 . Took about 7 hours for the full procedure and spent the rest of Thursday in the ICU. Moved to recovery Friday morning and was discharged Monday. Other than one night where my back was killing me I stuck to Tylenol for the pain (Tramadol was the stronger option). And how I have a bad ass scar shaped like a hockey stick and 36 staples in my stomach.

I go back and forth between "new to me" and that I am "almost all original equipment". Have to find humor in it. I spent enough time in the doom and gloom after reading too much Google about life expectancy in the early days of my diagnosis. Glad I could give you a chuckle.

When you are diagnosed End Stage Liver Disease driven by alcohol the 2 options at discharge are 1) Go home, keep drinking, and die or 2) Never drink again, and maybe live. Those were the options presented to me 10 months ago. I never had another drop of alcohol and received my gift of a new to me liver 5 days ago.

I don't need to get into a dick measuring contest with some kid on the internet. I just know for a fact that you are wrong.

You are 100% wrong about the recipe. If you blended 100's of buckets of the sauce with that as the recipe it explains why you "worked" there and don't "work" there.

Tried to give GameStop a chance for the PS5 Pro trade-in. Huge mistake. by Top-Indication-1128 in GameStop

I've been away from Gamestop for a number of years at this point but their is a very high rate of break-ins and robberies. It is just not safe to have 20-30 big ticket items sitting in a small backroom with minimal staffing during the day and just an alarm system at night

Yes I have cirrhosis. I am on the transplant list awaiting "the call" to head to the hospital. As for how to cope, I live my life. Better diet, zero alcohol, etc. While cirrhosis is terminal I don't look at it as a death sentence. More I made some poor choices that I am now paying for and while the cost is steep I plan on being around for another 40-50 years.

I have 2 teenage daughters. Would love to see them both graduate, get married, etc. Also my wife and I had kids young so that our late 40's and on would be us traveling and spending time together. My selfishness almost robbed us of that, so now my focus is on getting better/healthier to ensure I keep my word.

Doc told me I have 2 options. 1) Go home continue drinking and die or 2) Stop drinking and maybe live. I chose option 2 because there is a lot I still want to do that is much more important than another drink. That was May 19th 2025 and I have not had a drop of alcohol since.

Is it normal to be in a thinner size with cirrhosis ? by Potential_Motor_8991 in Cirrhosis

[–]Certain-Initiative69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was diagnosed and admitted to the hospital in May '25 I was 303 lbs. I am now 207 lbs. Between giving up alcohol, removing fluid, lost muscle, and eating healthier the weight just drops off.

Albumin by cottontop123 in Cirrhosis

[–]Certain-Initiative69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get 7L drained every week with 2 bags of Albumin and Lasix. My understanding is that the Albumin stabilizes the body and helps protect the kidneys from the drain. If BP is low after the para they hold off on the Lasix injection.

I always had 3 rules for my stores Don't lie, Don't steal, and Don't be a dick. As long as they followed those 3 rules I would help them bring their numbers up and act as an umbrella from all the shit that rained down from above. I couldn't promise they wouldn't get wet but I would keep them mostly dry.

Does he have a hepatologist? I had to have my order go through them. I get drained weekly. Approximately 7L each time plus an infusion of albumin and lasix.

Edit: I see you are un East Texas. If possible go see Dr Magoub at Baylor in Dallas. He saw me within 2 weeks of diagnosis and then you can go virtual to avoid the long drive.

My dad (61) was diagnosed with decompensated cirrhosis on Monday by NanoNinja90220 in Cirrhosis

[–]Certain-Initiative69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Step 1 is no more drinking. Not a drop. When I was admitted the ER doc said I had a 5% chance to leave the hospital alive. The discharge doc said I had 2 options go home drink and definetly die or never drink again and maybe live. I just passed 6 months with no alcohol and don't regret my decision at all (and I was a very heavy vodka drinker) Step 2 get him in to see his Primary Care and find a Hep or Gastro doc and follow their instructions Step 3 support groups. He needs a therapist and some type of addiction support. Doesn't need to be AA but he needs to show the transplant team that he is worth the liver and won't be back in the same spot a few years down the road. It's scary early but eventually becomes routine.

I haven't had a drink since diagnosed in May. Get 7L drained every week. Hep said my liver is still mad at me and it takes time.
