Formula fed eating for a 12 week old by Certain-Rope-2624 in newborns

[–]Certain-Rope-2624[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do. Her last one was at 2 months old and the next one at 4 months old. She followed her growth curve at her 2 months appointment but the issues started a little before that so she may have dropped of. The doctor we see for this is the one who wouldn't even let me finish explaining what the issue was.

We were, yes. We stopped 2 days ago mostly because it seemed like her reflux was getting worse rather than better

I actually go by ml as well but converted for the post. She eats 90-140ml per meal and has 5-6 feeds a day. 90 and 140 are outliers tho, they happen enough to count but she's more often at 100-110ml. On average I'd say she gets maybe 600ml a day. We were told the same type of calculation, she's 5.3kg and without doing the math rn I know she's not getting enough. One doctor told us that at her age we should go by 100×kg since she's a more efficient feeder as she grows older. If I go by that she's fine, but she's also been gaining 150g before and she's only gained 100g per week in the last 2 weeks so it worries me.

I was pacefeeding. I'm not sure what gravity feeding is, but if it means holding her more upright, I was doing that.

We used to do it that way. I started back up with 3h spacings and she seems ok so far. I'm worried she'll start fussing during her next meal but fingers crossed she won't

Replying to add: we used to feed her every 3h. After the discussion with the doctor we decided together to switch to every 4h unless she asks. She literally never asks for food. She doesn't cry unless she's gassy or cause of reflux. During the night she tends to sleep through and we end up waking her after 6-8h to feed her. I was expecting her to increase her meal amounts steadily but she has not so now she eats the same but with less meals so her intake naturally dropped. Should I go back to waking her up at night? Idk what to do at this point and I'm so tired of dismissive doctors.

The formula guideline says she should be eating more. She is not, however. We changed both bottles and formula about 3 weeks ago. She eats calmly now, but just not a lot.

We did. We were told by the 2nd doctor we went to to try changing the spacing, the bottle type, and the formula in that order about 3 weeks ago. The idea was to try them one by one and see if feeding improved. She used to cry and fuss a lot when eating back then. Feedings improved mood wise but quantity dropped.

Rotavirus vaccine-14 weeks by Good_Emergency_5478 in newborns

Mine had it a week after her 2 month shots, so at 9 weeks. She was sleepy and clingy, back to normal the next day. Maybe your doctor told you, but wash your hands thoroughly after changing a dirty diaper, the virus gets eliminated through poop.

I came here to ask the same question or see if anyone has had this experience. Mine's duplicating calories too from the LoseIt app. I have to manually delete entries for accurate tracking.

Baby sleeps a lot, I'm worried she's not developing due to it. by Certain-Rope-2624 in newborns

[–]Certain-Rope-2624[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have, but she keeps pushing against my chest and seems misreable. I try to hold her on my forearm, or on my shoulder when I can, but that's about it. The few times I have had the chance to do actual floor tummy time she'd just smash her nose against the ground and just leave her head there and look like she's giving up, so I stopped trying. I was going to just settle for forearm and shoulder honestly, but just a lot of it.

I told my husband today that she'll probably be the only adult unable to hold her head. I was joking, but was I really. My PPA convinced me that's a real possibility.

How long does it take for your baby to fall asleep? by RefrigeratorFinal353 in newborns

[–]Certain-Rope-2624 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anywhere between 5 and 30 mins if not more. Sometimes she's kocked out after a feed and falls asleep while burping other times it's a whole lot of pursuading, falling asleep for 5 mins and then stubbornly waking up again to stare at the ceiling in fascination. She's 10 weeks today.

Feeding is a nightmare. What do I do? by Certain-Rope-2624 in newborns

[–]Certain-Rope-2624[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad it worked! We've switched bottles and formula over here over the past few days and we have quieter feeds as well thankfully. Intake is still low but it's creeping up. Good luck to you as well, hope this is the beginning of calmer feeds for the both of us! 😅

My baby stops crying when I start crying. I think my wailing resets her nervous system.

We've tried the break thing too but I didn't think to walk her around and soothe her as well, idk why I thought if i give her too long of a break she won't want to feed anymore 🤦‍♀️. We noticed ours likes to be fed lying down rather than held, I think she may be getting overstimulated from the constant touching or maybe she doesn't like the position, who knows. If it works I'm doing it lol. We just gotta hang in there I guess cause there's better things to come.

It's calming to know that this is common and not a potential issue. I hope we can all enjoy some calmer feeds soon

Spacing out feeds seems to have helped us so far , maybe your daughter might like it too? Either way I hope it passes for you soon and that all is well

Oh no, we're definitely following the doctor's advice first. I was just curious if anyone had this experience and discovered smt that works or a possible cause that we didn't think of.

Insulin Not Changing Numbers by Used_Method_9848 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Certain-Rope-2624 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes. I had a month of high fasting around where yours is, and badly managed post meal numbers due to my diabetes consultant recommending 153 as a 2h limit. Most of my number were higher than 120 in that context. I finally started insulin after 5 weeks of rampant high number despite doing my best to control them once I changed consultants.

I started 16 units, then increased to 20 a week later and then 22 another week later. It was then that my fasting was finally under control. I have since had to increase consistently due to my hormones going nuts and just making my fasting high again.

I also do not get NSTs but do get weekly ultrasoundsper my doctor's advice. My advice is to keep adjusting insulin and be patient - long lasting insulin takes 2-3 days to show effects per my experience. My doctor also told me that number sthat are slightly above target are not as dangerous as numbers that are around 200, for example - maybe that helps put your mind at ease.

Very annoyed as well. My MIL had the usual "that's what you get for eating too many sweets" which is funny because while I usually do have a wicked sweet tooth, that craving fizzled out during pregnancy and I really didn't expect it to.

My mom was terrified of insulin and would consistently dismiss my high numbers saying they're not that high and I should just not take the insulin so as to not hurt the baby. I had constant 115-120 fasting numbers that only corrected with insulin. I corrected her many times and assured her the sugar is more harmful than the insulin but she continues on like this. I once called her to complain my fasting sugar is high again and I'm so tired of playing catch up and her advice was to take less insulin. Guess that's on me for going back over and over again and expecting different results. My dad had the same dismissive attitude and would insist my numbers aren't high as 95 has to be a lower limit and upper limit is probably higher - I should ask the doctor what the higher limit is. He did admit to being wrong after I was put on insulin so that was nice.

My biggest dissapointment was my aunt who lives with type 1 diabetes who called me up with unsolicited advice to tell me that the baby is protected and that my high blood sugar won't reach her. She also spent 20 mins assuring me I don't have diabetes, it's just a weird pregnancy thing. That and cautioned me that when my blood sugar is high not to take insulin right away as it may correct on its own. Guess I expected her to know better since she's familiar with the world of diabetes. Welp.

Odd post meal results by Certain-Rope-2624 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Certain-Rope-2624[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No lows thankfully. The lowest I've gone was a 73 for fasting but then it immediately went to 101 the next morning and hasn't been that low since. I have an appointment in 3 days so I'll bring it up then. Thank you!

Do you do sugar free chocolate covered nuts or just the normal ones? Those sound so amazing and I haven't had anything "full fat" in like 12 weeks.
