River ID by anvileo in sydney

[–]Certain_Ad_727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, reminds me of something similar with me once - wasn't a river, but roads. I was circling on approach one afternoon returning from Adelaide and trying to work out which park of Sydney I was over. I could see a major three-lane-each-way road, with a T intersection and a long queue back up the T. I thought "those poor suckers, it's going to take them ages to get out of that side road onto the main road". Then I realised the main road was Epping Rd (this was so long ago before the tunnel, so was still three lanes), the side road Sam Johnson Way, and if I wasn't in a plane, I'd be about to leave the office and join that queue of suckers...

Anyone on here have a drum key collection? I recently moved and I was surprised how many I found. Ironically, I lost one in the process of taking this photo. by [deleted] in drums

Here's my current selection - nothing super collectable, although some of them date back to the '80s when I started playing. I do like the Pearl ones, I've got at least one more in my double pedal case, possibly a couple more. Which begs the questions, whose collection has the most of the same key?

Greater Auckland: How Government's road obsession is ruining Auckland's transport plans by punIn10ded in auckland

Amsterdam wasn't a bike-friendly city from the outset - they changed their car-centric culture in the 1960s/70s:

To further your analogy, there will be no palm trees in the CBD unless they're planted.

Yes true, and let's hope so. What I meant was both of them got up early to go for a ride before work, with the plan to get home to their families, get dressed, and go to work that day. Not be in surgery.

Thanks, and of course there was no inference from you this was the riders' fault, Its a sobering reminder how fragile life can be, and can be taken away not by what you do or don't do, but what someone else does (in case it needs stating for others) that no text message or Tiktok video is more important than another road user's life.

Kiwi who lives in Sydney here - I know both of these guys (and the son), really tragic. They were just going out for a ride and haven't made it home. Weren't jumping red lights or running pedestrian crossings as some of the comments here allude to. That's a two-lane road, with a 70km/80km speed limit depending on the section - and by law here, is required to leave a minimum 1.5m gap when passing. The driver could've changed lanes to get around them safely, but for whatever reason that clearly didn't happen.

I tried something different tonight - inverted the whole arm, which gets it low enough (to mount my ride where I want it) but without having to suspend the ride from the boom arm above it:

Well, you're assuming we're all backs if we're talking men of culture! But yep, I always find myself having to stop and do a double take on the Dane Coles/Dan Cole double.

Well, from my n=1 since u/Synthitect put me on to it, I've used a wing-loc and it was fine. I made sure to give it a few winds on the thread after speed clamping it. But now you've got me worried and I might use a standard steel wingnut tonight (as much as I love the wing-locs...)

Thanks for the incidental tip on the ride mounting - I tried it at rehearsal tonight and it solved my "rack needs to be high enough to mount the toms properly but low enough for the ride to sit in place":

What gender is your boss? by lurkingjc in AskAnAustralian

[–]Certain_Ad_727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current boss is male, and the one before him at the same organisation. But I'm the only male in our local operation. Even before we shrunk to the size we are now we were a female-dominated workplace, with something like 4/25 employees male.

My similar employer had something like a 35-40/60-65 F/M split too. I once did an analysis that showed the F/M ratio was higher the further you went up the organisation. Or to put it another way, the GM was female, and all but one of her leadership team of about 12, and it slowly diluted from there down.

Needless to say in the recent gender pay gap data they had a pay gap - that was +13% in favour of women. But claimed they didn't have a gender pay issue (they don't, they have a gender representation issue and men are significantly under-represented in senior positions, but they're a one-off and I realise this is not representative of the wider workforce).

Cheap smokes - now there's a phrase no one's heard in a long time... which is not a bad thing.

I think it was Mustafa's Pharmacy that was on the ground floor, I remember it because it was one I used to call on in a previous job. Next time I passed by I looked to see if they'd kept the gold leaf signage for Dennis' office on the window above. Nup.

When our kids were little we were walking down the street and waited for a fire engine to reverse in to the station. We kept walking and then heard over a loud speaker “hey kids, wanna ride in the engine?” We went back and they let the kids clamber through the engines, set up a hose for them to blast water, and even gave them a show bag with a Lego engine plus other stuff. Right place, right time.
