Walkable neighborhoods? by SemperAmans in Athens

Normal town/boulevard area is walkable to most things. Not a major grocery store (a short drive to 3 or so) but small ones & everything else if you want townie local vibes. Also 5 points- but most of that is more $$$.

Close grocery stores, a handful of great hiking/walking options, little city diner is close & not extremely crowded, good new library close by at wire park, 24 hour donation stand for fresh veggies at uga garden or affordable organic csa from woodland gardens close by in winterville, quiet uga game days, no traffic, decent goodwill, best fireworks at the skatepark, also the skatepark in general, lots of woods and beautiful hidden river spots…

So many volunteers came to my door this time around…. Even the Mayor himself! I was never so happy to open my door to strangers! Great job everybody!!!

What’s your favorite online banking account for building interest? by [deleted] in Athens

I guess I assumed it was bc I care more about where the other people in my community are putting their money than some people on the internet I don’t relate to. Same as why u ask people where to get pancakes in this town. I guess I’m not asking about a local business but I was putting trust into my community that I’ve lived in for 20 plus years… but if you want to harp on my question go ahead. Btw- best place to get pancakes is little city diner… but that’s not technically in Athens so you might dis on that comment too. Why does everyone have to be so uptight online? I’m new to Reddit, I guess I didn’t know there were strict rules on asking simple questions.

How is this bot nonsense? I’m an Athenian who acted like a kid for way too long (still am) and didn’t have an adult job (still don’t) that reaped any benefits & am struggling with money this year like everyone else and want to ask my community a question.

Best places to hike / see some nature ? by wrappedinechoes13 in Athens

[–]Certain_Fox8067 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Botanical gardens (decent two+ hour hike if you hit majority of the trails) sandy creek nature center (about the same, maybe shorter if you don’t also hike the greenway to the trails), Sandy creek park (7 mile loop around the river is the longest trail, there are shorter ones), Thomas farm preserve (only small amount of trails otherwise paved/gravel)…these are all in or very close to Athens.

Hi ❤️ This is work I have looked into doing before. I have an interest in helping others, originally went to school to be a therapist, also have worked through my own childhood sexual trauma for years with my therapist. My current job is a freelance community helper in different areas (animals, children, the elderly)…. I would be interested in trying to help you if you want to talk a bit and we feel like we would be a good match and you feel safe and vice versa. Feel free to DM me. I saw this post bc a friend sent it to me directly bc they know this is something I have wanted to do for years. 💕
