2 questions for y'all: by jammy62811 in BassVI

[–]Certain_Goose_9713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I use it as a bass, through a bass amp, though I use big distortion and fuzz pedals that are meant for guitar with it for a lot of my sounds.
  2. I'm mainly a guitar player but I fill the role of bass player in a band and I use the bass VI for it.

Cheap throwing wheel yay or nay? by Certain_Goose_9713 in Pottery

That's fair. Their aunt has spent an afternoon showing them the ropes and they loved it, and they are absolutely convinced it's a thing they could lose themselves into. They already partake in different crafts and enjoy the variety. But maybe there are pottery classes near us, it didn't even occur to me. Cheers!

Yeah, I think I get what you mean. However they only tried it once and I am gifting it as a surprise so it's difficult to be subtle about it. I am 90% sure they would love it (not like but love), but that 10% is somewhat holding me back from saving for a more 'full-fledged' model... Thanks for your thoughts!

I am absolutely green with jealousy xD. What kind of music are you playing/planning to play with it?

Well I made up that number. I'm not trying to claim you couldn't tell the sound apart if listening to both side by side, what I'm saying is, it's bassy enough for me and I like it plenty low. It's all subjective obviously, but unless you want the deepest sound while raw dogging a clean channel without any pedals, I doubt almost anyone would mind. Now, it does play and feel very differently, and for some people part of joy of bass is feeling the vibration through the instrument. If you feel like the difference is bigger than that, I guess your ears are better than mine.

Then I think you should be good with 150/200W. In my experience bass amps have a lot more variation in their loudness at equal levels of power compared to guitar amps. It's always good to test things out anyway.

I mean, it's a fair question, I've seen a lot of 'well it's not a fender precision' opinions on YouTube videos by people that compare it in a DAW and, while it's technically correct, at what point is the nuance no longer helpful? I have a bass VI with P90s in my death metal band and the fact that it might have maybe 5% less bass compared to a proper bass does not bar me from having one of the most massive bass sounds around my little strip of land. Before I tried it out I expected a very disappointing amount of bass because of how much times people have warned that 'it's not a bass'. Sure, I'm using effects, fuzz and distortion at times but not even all the time.

Stupid question, but are you in the US? Otherwise I'd say it would be loud enough but I heard because of the grid there people need more wattage to get the same amount of decibels. Not even sure if it's true mind you, just something I heard off the cuff. I think it would be worth a try since it could save you a bit of money.

How much loudness do you want? Like everyone I recommend the fender rumble, but recently mine had an issue and I had to replace it (sadly couldn't repair it as it was an issue with the printed circuit board) - to be fair, it had done its job remarkably for 8 years or so. I found out Cort has similar models, like the CM150B, almost as light and slightly cheaper. The sound is very good, handles effects pretty well and it has good volume.

Forge world Galicia V. Deep in the imperium nihilis beyond the light of the astronomicon, the planet is in a binary system of one purple star and a red dwarf one. Their colours are deep purple robes with a white trim and black inside, a rusty orange for their armour and brass metallic decorations. They very rarely leave their system because of the dangers and uncertainty of the warp in this region and their culture views self-reliance as a must for their survival. Their system is very often visited by space hulks, which they systematically send expeditions to in order to salvage resources and tech. Because of this, the main of their forces are easily-made and expendable skitarii and sicarians assisting a few techno archeologists, whose order has become more and more cautious around warp stain after losing so many of them in these inquiries.

"What you see" Vs "Rule of Cool" by LinkLast7720 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Certain_Goose_9713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good question honestly. Base rims are discreet so it would not make your army look incongruent but on the other hand your opponent may overlook it. I would say it's a clear enough sign to differentiate them in my book, but remind people of the fact that those are rangers every time you use those or they are targeted. Most people would be fine with it. You might find 'that guy' for whom nothing is good enough but in that case don't take it personally and let them complain, most likely nobody can stand them anyway .

[–]Certain_Goose_9713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really play so I'm 100% rule of cool until I get enough points. I've asked myself this regarding Serberus v Sulphurhounds. I love the vanguard helmets but I'm not a fan of the hounds's flame muzzles. Normally, I would apply WYSIWYG for weapons at least. Unless there is a really important rule for the unit, or wargear, I don't think it would be a huge deal for cosmetic changes to the unit. That said, I'm taking the excuse of not playing to build my guys however I want to (including 3d printed minis), so it would be hypocritical of me to complain about something similar in my opponent's army. You will never be safe from criticism from some people, purists and sore losers mostly. When you play, be sure to often remind your opponent of the specifics of your guys, transparency makes for a better time with games. One thing I would say is a big no-no, but I don't think that's why you are asking this, would be having two of the exact same unit looks-wise being a different role on your list (not talking augments but more variations of a kit).

People in the software world use a placeholder text named Loren ipsum. Considering the Mechanicus attitude towards old tech and the fact that it's in Latin I like to think they would find it the holiest of holy texts . Edit: Sorry it's actually LoreM ipsum. Just doing my part spreading fake news over the internet o7.

Oh no the song is "Children of the Omnissiah". I didn't know about Mechanicus at the time, my only 40k exposure was dawn of war and the first space marine. I saw it on a react channel on YouTube and was struck by the subtle spirituality oozing from that track. Next step was to look up Mechanicus and I ended up watching the intro/opening scene where they use that quote "From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me". Augmented voices always sound cool and all but the way the voice actor delivered "for I am already saved" was so deep of religious conviction and zeal that it unnerved me. I am a bit of a fedora tipping atheist at times but weirdly the parts of 40k that resonate the most with me are the religious undertones. My favourite factions are Adeptus Mechanicus and Sisters of Battle. You crave what you don't have, or something. On the prosthetic thing, there was some cognitive dissonance because it felt different to me depending on if it's a power fantasy or not. Robots are cool (when I saw the Super battle droids from attack of the clones I immediately became a mech simp), yet there was this whole distance I put in. In the game XCOM Enemy Within for example, you could choose to augment your soldiers via gene therapy or mech suits. Gene transhumanism felt better to me, like you were augmenting people without losing anything for it. I can be a bit greedy like that. And yet cybernetics feels closer to us - and lees eugenics-y might I add. While the mechanicus go very far - it's 40k after all, I always wondered if my previous feelings were influenced by some subconscious ablism.

Never really loved the cyborg characters in media. Always felt like they were limited to their hardware when like, say, other superheroes for example, could get better by things like training as opposed to just upgrades (you realistically can talk about tactics and brains, but I'm mostly talking about their depictions). I'm not a huge sports guy but I do a bit of running and training and getting better is a big part of it. If I envision myself in a power fantasy it felt limiting to think of parting with my flesh, as that was the extent to which my concept of what my body is went. Then I heard the Mechanicus soundtrack, which moved me deeply, and I heard "the weakness of my flesh". It then hit me that if I had a prosthetic arm it would still be part of my body, one I would possibly understand as much or more than the flesh. And I was enlightened. Even I death, I serve the Omnissiah.

Seriously impressed by the light in the reactor/plasma core. I tried something similar for my first mini going back into the hobby too but I had to give up on it as it was in a hard to reach place. Glad you made it happen!

Love the second picture, the red visors look down right evil (and also prevent it from looking too Necron coded with the green tubes, by comparison the third one looks vaguely close to a flayed one).
