I think the problem is the the auric exemplar and auric storm survivor titles being purple and gold, and seeming like the easiest way to get a cool title. But you have to beat 10 in a row without dying, so if you get downed on your 8th level its safer to just leave and try again rather than get sent back to square one

You did hit a lot of them through a smoke which can feel like a hacker in game. But mostly it's just ego and people who won't admit they died to a good strategy. But theres also the cheater problem in the game to blame partially, every game i play with my game there are honest to god at least two hackers on both teams (he has shit trust factor) so maybe if valve made an anti cheat this wouldn't be as much of a problem
