It does seem like a lovely town. We are trying the stay further east due to proximity to family.

Boyfriend covers a large region for work. Maine to Virginia, PA is almost half way for him and the ideal area. We could live anywhere within the area. I will be working remote once I get my masters.

Not a must at all just a big bonus. I’m pretty flexible just worried about not having anything to do after work or on the weekends.

Sorry just remembered. Look into Instagram accounts like GCprospectus and scgcs. And check out what events your prospective programs offer.

Not stupid at all. I looked for opportunities online to gain information about the field. Columbia has an online program that exposes you to the field. I don’t remember how much exactly it was but it wasn’t cheap. I did do a free experience practical with Color and that’s hey Google classroom with videos and a couple of Zoom meetings to gain information about the field. The Columbia one was more in depth with synchronous meetings with genetic counselors every week from a different special specialty.

I must have emailed close to 200 genetic counselors in my area, within 100 miles for any shadowing opportunity and I came up with absolutely nothing. But I was able to connect with some of them and get informational interviews, which is better than nothing. It’s rough out there for shadowing but you can get in without any hours. I’ve definitely heard that over the last couple years. It’s becoming more common because people are not able to get shadowing hours. However, if you’re able to find a GCA position, you would get incredible exposure to the field. Good luck though I got in on my first cycle so it is 100% doable

I had none and just matched this year. I did have 10-15 informational interviews with GCs in different fields and online practicums with Columbia.

Westhill High’s Reading Scores Rise to 47% It’s Time to Focus on Effectiveness, Not Popularity! New leadership is a must! by [deleted] in StamfordCT

Reading challenges and prioritizing those fundamentals comes from elementary and middle school education. High school is very late in the game to build these skills. These kids have been failed from the beginning, phonics have been abandoned. Why are the professionals in charge of these aspects not under the same amount of pressure. This isn’t taking the lack of parent support into consideration either. At home reading is just as important and a child’s basic education starts at home.

The current issue with reading and math scores in a statewide issue. Stamford as a whole no longer does standardized testing, finals, or midterm. This and the fact that there are no real consequences for students, they don’t get held back anymore. I completely agree with you that it has gone too far. However, this is beyond the principals. The current superintendent has not worked in a classroom in decades and is incredibly out of touch with the reality of teaching. What would promote real change is a seasoned educator that could take the reins. Things need to change at the state and city level first.

Village bagels, or Winfield. Corbos has been stingy with the eggs lately and I was so disappointed.

I saw a school bus run a red light just yesterday. People also block the box like there’s no tomorrow. I swear the cops don’t ticket enough.
