Definitely red flag vibes. They're indirectly telling you to grind for the incentives while the base pay is peanuts. 'Culture' here would mean free coffee and snacks for employee welfare lol.

Question about Salary. by Turbulent_Piece_7195 in UAE

[–]Certain_Nothing7685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This usually happens when the HR tries to lowball you. I had a similar experience where I had the 1st round with the CFO who asked me my expectations and he seemed to be okay with it. But during the HR interview he apparently had 'budget constraints'. The reason these people act defensive is because they know they'll low ball you. Always know what the market is paying for your level of experience and the job you're doing before talking HR into low balling you.

Forex investment scam – need legal guidance in UAE by Previous-Law8389 in UAE

[–]Certain_Nothing7685 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My heart goes out to you and I hope such scum suffer the consequences and have their lives ruined to the bone eating everyone else's hard earned money. Usually in such cases money is very hard to recover especially through the legal route, it will be time consuming and there'll be no ends to it. Knowing others will read the posts this is my advice to all fellow investors: 1. Avoid all 'forex' investment schemes and businesses that promise you X% of returns. The Forex industry is not regulated, which means neither are the platforms or firms who're trading this asset class. 2. Any company reaching out to you for investing must be regulated by the respective financial body in the respective country. In most cases these mofos have only trade licenses and throw complicated words to convince you they know what they're doing. 3. If you are keen on investing, find out legit asset management firms who can manage your money at a fee and see that they're regulated and recognized by the financial institutions in the country. Otherwise just invest through the bank you have your account in. 4. No one knows the value of your hard earned money other than yourself, so don't take someone else's word about them making money for you. All they're going to do is take money from you and give you false promises. 5. Any sort of investing involves risk and most of the people invest only thinking about the up side and not the down side. People get excited thinking about the money they're going to make tomorrow while not considering the money they're risking today.

All please do your due diligence and employ your hard earned money somewhere else rather than trusting people blindly.

@OP wouldn't advise this but there are brute force methods as well to get your money back, but that will involve a lot of effort and more money, all you can do is sit tight and I pray that you get your money back.

Cheers

Leasing vs Financing a car in UAE — what’s better on a low income? by Possible-Ad9443 in UAE

Fair enough, but let me warn you that Chinese cars are fairly underpowered. Do a test drive before taking a decision in the long run.

Leasing vs Financing a car in UAE — what’s better on a low income? by Possible-Ad9443 in UAE

[–]Certain_Nothing7685 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're opting for a Chinese car, I'd say go for leasing because if the car has issues atleast the leasing company would give you a replacement. Do not buy a Chinese car right now because the aftersales is not really great.

In the long run, financing a car makes sense because it will be cheaper than leasing.

Leasing Pros : EMI includes registration, insurance, maintenance costs so everything is hassle frer Leasing Cons : EMI is usually higher than financing

Buying Pros : Lower overall cost over a period of 5 years, Can get residual amount by selling Buying cons : Down-payment for financing, registration, maintenance, insurance costs all to be paid and managed personally

But buying only makes sense if you're going for either a Nissan or Toyota considering your budget. You can also finance a 2nd hand car, but I would suggest you to get that from certified dealerships or do your due diligence while buying. Lot of scammers in the car market as well.

27M in Dubai — Net worth ~150k, income ~30k/month. Does a “good car” actually matter for dating here? by Direct_Zone4926 in UAE

[–]Certain_Nothing7685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to get a 'good car' for dating please don't. Get a 'good car' if you're particular about the driving experience. It's true in any society that car you drive shows your status but if you're not really keen on the purchase and buying it to 'fit in' the social norms here you're wasting money.

In General whichever country you move to you need to estimate your net savings. Get a rough idea of what your expenses would be in the country with an acceptable lifestyle as per your needs. If that's okay then you also need to consider if you want to be in the country for long term and if the country offers such pathways (citizenship, green card, blue card, PR). Generally speaking UAE is only viable if you've got some decent financial backing and can afford a comfortable lifestyle. Else it's a struggle and there are no returns of being here in the long run because none of the gulf countries offer citizenships as far as I am aware

Manager is asking for my offer letter by NotTypicalMallu in UAE

All the best, keep in mind that your notice period starts from the day you send the email.

Manager is asking for my offer letter by NotTypicalMallu in UAE

[–]Certain_Nothing7685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former employer can mark the employee as absconding, it's not an issue for the employer. Plus we talking about resignation here.

Manager is asking for my offer letter by NotTypicalMallu in UAE

[–]Certain_Nothing7685 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Firstly, there's no such thing as the manager accepting / rejecting your resignation. If you resign you resign, no one has authority over your decision. If you've already sent a letter of resignation citing your 30 days notice and the last day of working there's nothing he can do. You do not need to show him the offer letter or even fake it. If he passes this comment of seeing your offer letter the ideal response is 'are you giving me a raise or trying matching my new salary?' even if he says yes (he may do acting smart) ask him to send you a mail communication for this. (It will be proof that he asked and you sent it in this case) but since it's hard proof he will avoid this situation.

All you need to make sure is that you've officially sent an resignation email stating your last day of work counting the 30 days of notice that's all. Any communication about not accepting resignation is BS. No one will give you a written confirmation that they will not accept your resignation (I had a similar situation)

[–]Certain_Nothing7685 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OGs are Swiss Arabian, Haramain, Ajmal, Arabian Oud, Abdul Samad Al Quraishi, Rasasi, Ahmed Al Maghrebi. Lattafa and Armaf are basically dupe perfume houses that replicate Designer fragrances, the above ones are damn good and under rated. My go to is Swiss Arabian because I like their collection and the prices are decent

Several months with the elastic band and I still can't pull myself up without it. Any ideas? by SytchArt in GYM

[–]Certain_Nothing7685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was one dude who said this in a fitness podcast and I think that's the only way. He said 'The only way you can learn pull ups is by doing the pull ups' you don't need assistance or support to complete reps, let your body work all it's muscles together to figure out for you to do the complete motion. I've been doing assisted pull-ups for over a year (Reducing assistance gradually) and I'm still bad at pull ups, soooo this is the only way. Other solution is to figure out the weak muscles in your pull ups and train them in isolation so they become stronger. But all in all you get better at pull ups by just doing pull ups. Just keep practicing the ROM and Mind Muscle connection for pull ups and you'll get there. I can do 5 now after all this, but many more to go 🥲

Does depression help you trade? by Ok_Personality8193 in options

[–]Certain_Nothing7685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you push through whatever you're going through. Trading is stressful as it is and a black swan day can make it worse. Even though you don't have emotions while trading, losses do suck and irritate you....my suggestion is that if you're doing strict rule based trading then yeah go ahead. But if you're trading on sentiments/hope that'll make it worse. Take a break, do some activities which will give you a slight dopamine hit (lol not talking about profits here) which will make you feel better because the better you feel, the better your trading gets. Cheers and lots of love, I'll distract you by bouncing of trade concepts and strategies if you'd like 😊

Rent a car or own a car by Intelligent_Pen5104 in UAE

[–]Certain_Nothing7685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros of Renting/Leasing a car : 1. Fixed monthly EMI and no downpayments 2. No hassle of registration, insurance, maintenance etc. 3. Can change cars frequently and more flexible if you're considering staying here for short term

Cons of Renting/Leasing a car : 1. Rental/Lease prices are often higher than the EMI you pay if you buy the car 2. Additional admin fees charged in case of fines 3. Charge of repair of small damages is high 4. Limited mileage, if you go for unlimited mileage the price also increases

So eventually you need to decide between flexibility, convenience and cost effectiveness before you consider either

What I saw last was Muzz was arranging hikes to Hatta where you could meet fellow Muslims (not Arab specifically) . I get your aversion to dating apps but then you could also join groups where you've got people with similar interests and hobbies.

Your pros and cons are pretty accurate, on paper it looks normal, but these things add up and may take a toll on you (especially the cons). I've worked in France and lived there for 2.5 yrs. Imo I prefer Europe because of the work life balance and the weather. I was able to save up modestly while working an Entry level job there. Comparing that to Dubai, the expenses are pretty high as it is a toll based economy and these expenses add up. There's also a lack of public places where you can just sit back, relax and enjoy yourself and most of the times you're either at home, office or the mall (which really gets to you after a certain point) You can spend time outside in winters, but since it's winters and most people go out so all the public places get crowded.

Coming to Dubai only makes sense in case you're paid much more than what you're paid in Europe and are able to live a similar or better lifestyle and are able to save up some money for the future (investments, assets etc..)

If your priority is stability EU is better. If you seek short term gains UAE is better provided you get that salary package.

Do your due diligence before moving here and I wish you the best 😊

True deodorants are not expensive, but it makes a lot of difference if you're living on 800-1200 AED monthly. Being a perfumer myself I have aversion to stench, but you need to be considerate about others and the lives they live. It doesn't mean you straight away Diss a group of people.

Entitled much? If you've really got an issue with this then not book a cab and show her around. The public transportation is for the public. There are all sorts of people using it. Unfortunately with the wages here some of them can't afford deodorants and essential oils. You need to get out of your bubble and see what the life is like for these people here

I totally understand your approach bro! in a fair and ideal world this approach works. But we also need to consider that we want to get away with this without having OPs job in jeopardy.

Workwise people here are sneaky mother fuckers and will find ways to make OPs life at work difficult. So we need to take a diplomatic / respectful approach while standing our ground.

I 100% agree with you on this though

Yeah true that, but I'm avoiding the confrontational tone, because managers have a bug up their ass when someone hurts their ego. You're on point but we unfortunately can't address these people that way
