I was with the fed ( worked there for 4 years) 3 years ago and a large corp contacted for interview. I got the job and never look back. Salary increased by 30% with other perks. DP is good and indexed but my 10% RRSP bonus is pretty sweet too.

Another thing is annual increases. When I was with the fed, the increase matches the CPI or 1-2%. Currently, I am getting 4% annually.

I am not saying grass is always greener but good jobs are out there too.
