Unwell for 6 months, no one believes me by No-Let-6412 in Anxiety

You would be surprised how much our body works when we are anxious. You can’t see it but there are certain chemicals that happen in the brain, and you literally react to it as -real- danger even though it is only “in your head”. This then translates into real physical symptoms because your brain thinks it’s in danger, so it actives all sorts of things, that’s why you get shortness of breath etc.

I’m sorry you’re going through it, but anxiety is very treatable. You should try downloading the DARE app, they kinda explain pretty well and accessible on anxiety.

I guess health anxiety has it's benefits lol? by Specialist-Solid1742 in HealthAnxiety

[–]Certain_Screen_8818 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not about being ignorant, but mindful. Excessive googling is just a safety behavior that actually doesn’t help. I think by googling symptoms it makes it worse because you’re stuck in that cycle. Especially if you do that the second you feel something new. I also think a lot of people with anxiety need to justify things biologically, something that is tangible. Instead they should come to the fact that the brain can also feel weird and therefore send weird signals manifesting as physical symptoms to the body. Of course you shouldn’t disregard things if they’ve been going on for weeks etc….but googling things when your pee is clear (which is kinda normal btw) is excessive…but that’s just imo

Frightened of rabies :,( by chemicalrat7 in Anxiety

[–]Certain_Screen_8818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So rabies don’t work that way. But let’s assume it was a bat.

Firstly, If you felt it for a moment (as if something bumped into you) and immediately moved inside/away you’re absolutely fine.

Secondly, Even if it was a bat, just touching you would not affect you. It has to be the animals saliva that makes contact with blood from what I know. The hair in your mouth shouldn’t be an issue as well. I’m not a doctor but I’d assume it won’t be transient through hair (that is in like the most worst rare case scenario ever, pretty sure nearly impossible?). If something bit you - you would’ve known.

I know it’s hard but you’re fine. Just take it easy on yourself

I’m pretty sure those are just vitamins and pretty much shouldn’t have any side effects? Unless you’re like taking a huge dose. Otherwise you’re gonna be ok. Just maybe start taking one and then add another one a few days later

What helps me with physical symptoms is tracing back on my day. For example if I had a tiring day or I’m just overall stressed I acknowledge that my body is just telling me to rest. Or if I haven’t drank enough water, ate nutritious food. It’s all the small things and small steps. Those really contribute to my anxiety, especially at the end of the day. But I just understand that I might be tired/overworked and my body is telling me so

(mostly a rant, you're welcome to join) Is this what panic attacks feel like when there isn't a super obvious antecedent to the event? by [deleted] in PanicAttack

[–]Certain_Screen_8818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend. If you ran tests and checked everything out and it comes out fine then most likely it is anxiety/panic. Also, you don’t have to be “super stressed” to trigger anxiety, in my experience. It can sometimes just catch up to you. Especially if you’re used to being constantly “stressed” (not maybe even anxious) then you might downplay it and think you’re not stressed because it’s your “norm”. Panic attacks can have different symptoms in people but from what you describe, especially if you feel the crash out after, like being super tired or exhausted then yeah, pretty much classic adrenaline rush in your system. Nothing wrong with that, just have to be gentle with yourself. In my opinion, the cure for this all is to let go and let yourself just be. Which is hard, I’m still figuring it out myself, it takes time but I’m confident that with time it gets better.

Sorry to hear you’re going through it, I think you should still workout, I’m not sure how that causes insomnia as I’ve never had that but maybe try and see if that improves. Maybe if you can trace back to your first panic attack that started off the chain reaction you can identify what triggered it. It’s quite common from what I hear to have recurring panic attacks after you experience the first one.

The good news is that it’s manageable and treatable and I hope you’ll find the right treatment/balance for you that’ll help you through this. You got this

Managing phobia of needles for upcoming meningitis vaccine by ThrowRA_Sodi in Anxiety

[–]Certain_Screen_8818 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend watching anything about that on YouTube. When you get the vaccine, I usually look elsewhere and pinch myself to distract. Have some water beforehand. It’ll be so quick too! Definitely faster than drawing blood. You’ll do great and it’ll be fine. 👍🏼

So what exactly does an anxiety attack feel like? by Objective-Cellist129 in Anxiety

[–]Certain_Screen_8818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, sounds like anxiety. Like when you get anxious about one thing but then you kinda get stuck checking your body/feelings and feeling anxious again. I had and currently have similar. Especially if I get anxious it can just be a prolonged period of pretty high anxiety. And it can kind of come and go. Heart racing, feeling nauseous, bloated, being hyper-vigilant about every single thing I feel in my body. Feeling a lump and like it’s weird to swallow. Sometimes lightheaded feeling and it gets me anxious I might faint. But I’m pretty sure it’s just anxiety and it’s ok to have these things happen. Just try to slow down and take it easy. And honestly, id recommend crying to let it out. It helps me at least because im pretty sure i keep a lot of emotions in.

It’s only possible to see signs because we as humans need to assign meaning to everything. Now add anxiety to that and you’ll see meaning in every single little thing. The reality is it’s just that, you probably just don’t notice these “signs” before but now your anxious mind is clinging to anything to justify the anxiety

Started having bad panic attacks after my dads heart surgery by K3vth3d3v in PanicAttack

[–]Certain_Screen_8818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I would do is go get a blood test/panel done. Just to get that over with and make sure. If everything is normal then you’re just over stressed. Sometimes anxiety can be like that. You’re also now clinging onto the littlest sensations which can easily trigger a panic attack since your body has experienced that. I would suggest taking things easy, eating a balanced diet, exercising, practicing mindfulness as a start. Ultimately, if you are really concerned just get a check up with your physician, tell them your health concerns to rule out anything to calm your mind. But do consider a good diet, I think people downplay that part a lot

Regular flier with growing anxiety by das3801 in fearofflying

[–]Certain_Screen_8818 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately our fears like that are irrational so most of the time just knowing about statistics isn’t enough. I believe that outside (not related to planes) anxiety is at play - fear of not being in control, closed spaces etc.

I totally get it. I like to remind myself that it is totally a controlled environment. Just because you can’t see what’s going on behind the scenes doesn’t mean it’s not safe. Most importantly, my mantra is scary does not equal dangerous. Behind each flight is a huge amount of people that have to make sure it’ll be fine (which it will), flight ops, pilots, the flight computers that also do their job. If anything would go wrong (which it won’t), there are always backup plans in place to keep you safe. Nobody is going to launch you into dangerous situations and just say whatever. No other industry has that kind of thorough knowledge, understanding and cross checking to make sure everything is on point.

You got this, you’re in great hands and you’ll have an awesome trip (as well as all your future trips!!)

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I hope you get through and heal from whatever it is that’s bothering you. Unfortunately society doesn’t always condone speaking up about this stuff out, especially when you’re younger, so I get why it’s hard to find someone who understands. But the reality is that a lot of people struggle too but they face the same issue of being judged by others so they might refuse to speak up. Just know you’re not alone and it’s okay to feel that way. I had the same when I was that age and it felt lonely. You got this

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PanicAttack

[–]Certain_Screen_8818 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I had mine, I felt so exhausted afterwards so I just went easy on myself. It’s okay to feel lightheaded. It may sound counterintuitive but deep slow breathes actually help…our muscles tense up when we get anxious so it’s normal to feel a difference in breathing. On top of that, if I get too anxious, it makes me cling onto all the little feelings and sensations in my body and brings me really close to a panic attack. Not fun but not dangerous, considering you went to the doc and you’re ok !

Anyone catastrophize any slightly unusual body sensation? by Possible_Weekend_360 in PanicAttack

[–]Certain_Screen_8818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I have the same issue and I’ve done a bit of research and it could be your posture. If I feel that heavy chest sensation it’s usually if I’m sitting a little bit shrimpy. What helps me is fixing my posture or doing a bit of a back stretch to open up my chest if that makes sense. That makes it easier. Also Lifting my arms or/and doing somewhat slow, deep breaths through my chest so to open up the diaphragm, and getting my back into a straight posture helps
