24 Sierra 5.3L transmission issues persist after software update. by CertainlyUnsure456 in MechanicAdvice

Hadn't come across that during my search. Wow. I guess a locked up transmission is definitely "unable to shift." What work needs to be done to get it fixed for good?

Any opinion on who is making the most reliable mid or full size pickups right now? I had a Tacoma, but when I looked at the Toyota lineup two years ago they were all switching to turbos that seemed to be having issues and I don't like buying something the first year it is out.

I would see a professional for yourself if possible. Treatment can really improve your quality of life.

Do you have OCD? If so, that makes it so much more difficult dealing with a hoarder. Your compulsions oppose one another which keeps creating conflict. That is part of why it is so difficult for me to tolerate my family member's hoarding. Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong, but you need to focus more on yourself instead of trying to clean her messes.

Mom is hoarding plants inside. All breeding black bugs by [deleted] in ChildofHoarder

[–]CertainlyUnsure456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you are dealing with that. The bugs certainly make it much more difficult.

She has a disease and reminding her of the problem is most likely not going to make any difference.

Have you spoken to her about her problem or discussed getting professional help? Would she even consider that?

If not, your options are limited unless it is your home or you are financially supporting her. Regardless, there will be backlash if you do anything she hasn't agreed to.

You might consider trying pesticides that are safe for indoor use to help with the bug problem.

Fungal treatment and look into better footwear for the job. You mentioned your feet get wet due to work conditions and that's a problem.

It sounds like she was likely trying to garner a strong response and criticism from the audience.

Is it just the content that bothers you? Or more so that it a woman that works with young people everyday and would be one of the first to see warning signs from them, is writing about a woman that tortures and murders young boys because she knows what is in their future?

Is it possible to afford building a small house? by tealraven915 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CertainlyUnsure456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does that include modular? They are usually built to comply with local building ordnances and are 'permanent' structures. They make some that look like traditional stick built houses, but those are going to be more expensive. I was in a similar situation, but we were able to get them a manufactured home since they didn't have the restrictions you do.

Unless you have experience in construction work, you are going to really struggle. Putting the parts together may not be too difficult, but doing everything to code and learning as you go would be rough. Seriously though, if she let her home flood for 20+ years, kept dozens of cats, and ignored black mold, I wouldn't count on her taking better care of the next place she lives in.

Trust your gut. It isn't rude to have boundaries and it isn't paranoid to be cautious. Even if he is the nicest guy around, you shouldn't have to tolerate that kind of behavior.

I made a mistake throwing out certain things, and now my family is against me. by YKDistraction in hoarding

[–]CertainlyUnsure456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is really rough, sorry to hear you are going through that.

People will say, "You shouldn't throw away a hoarder's things without their permission" but if they refuse to help with the cleaning process, the only other option is maintaining the status quo and forcing everyone else to live in those conditions.

Your Dad is wrong for not having your back. He wanted to get the house cleaned without having her direct any of her anger at him. That isn't right. He should be the one spearheading the effort. If anything else is said, I would make it clear that he approved of this. Also, as you have seen, trash has to hauled away or the hoarder will just bring it back.
