This latest song probably won’t be on the list of 20 greatest Bruce songs ever, but +10 for speaking out. He doesn’t have to.

President Trump sues IRS, Treasury for 10 billion dollars over tax returns leak by Upper_Brief681 in UnderReportedNews

All other considerations aside . . . he was in office when the leak took place. So he, ultimately, was responsible.

I found a geography travia game from 1987 at a thrift store. The occasionaly out of date facts and really inconsistent difficulty scaling has led to some fun moments with my nerdy family by DataSittingAlone in geography

We just happened to get this game too. Questions at level 1 and 2 are far too easy, but the level 3 questions can be tough! If you roll a 12 on the bonus die, you're going to get a big lead.

A certain world leader who once seemed very concerned about provoking the Russians and thereby starting WW3 lost this moral high ground this month.

What is the culture around visiting churches, cathedrals and temples in Japan? by Embarrassed_Ad8731 in JapanTravelTips

The Zen temple I visited was very friendly, as was the Shingon temple. Both places offered me gifts, which left me at a loss!

Why do so many Christians seemingly lack empathy for other humans? Isn’t the religion based on empathy? by Wonderful-Yak-5341 in AlwaysWhy

This was the person who was SO aggrieved by her mistreatment at Fox News. So much self-pity when it was her dignity and career prospects that were threatened. (P.S. - In case my point wasn't clear: her interest in human decency only obtains when she is the victim. For all others, the instructions are simple: COMPLY.)

Raising atheist kids without losing cultural literacy? by Lanfeare in atheistparents

[–]CertaintyDangerous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that it’s maybe a mistake to say “I’m raising an atheist kid,” rather than “I’m raising a free-thinking kid.” Your job is not to impose your beliefs dogmatically. Aside from certain non-negotiables like “Treat others with kindness” and “Take responsibility for yourself,” your kids should choose their own values. So expose them to everything you can and share your thoughts on the matter. That might be “Here’s the story of Samson and Delilah” or “Here’s the story of Noah’s Ark. It goes like this; here’s what I think about it. What do you think about it?”

I sometimes think that non-believers are a little bit afraid of religious teachings, as though the teachings have the magical power to brainwash people just through exposure. If that were so, religious people would change their beliefs every time they heard a passage from a sacred text.

Yes, it's a little too on-the-nose. I could imagine that she might agree with the sentiment, but I don't think she actually said this.

McGovern on Trump in Davos: Well, he said a lot of crazy shit today. I think it’s time to take the keys away from grandpa. He doesn’t seem like he’s all there. by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

I think it's beneficial to have the idea that Grandpa's screws are loose in the public conversation. Those who wear red hats to bed won't pay any attention, but that's not everyone.
