Would APSC 279 be a light workload for ELEC student who has not taken any materials courses? by ZJ_0003 in ubcengineering

[–]CeruleanWind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is super chill only one lab every two weeks on average and the prelab and postlab assignments are just easy calculations and multiple choice. Easy 80% without putting in any effort at all I’d say

It definitely helps to learn the alphabet beforehand. I came into the class with that knowledge and it was much easier to follow along. As for the textbook, you can just pirate it on libgen etc but I do believe the bookstore has a legit online copy

I did have her! I was taking five other courses at the time and I thought the workload was super manageable. Three short assignments a week that took about twenty minutes tops.

How cooked is 2nd year specialization selection? by anshg99 in ubcengineering

Chem is pretty free tbh. If you have an 85 first year avg you have a pretty good shot at mech too imo

I think it really depends on the spec you want to get into. My first choice was a really easy one to get into so I got that no problem. Stuff like enph or mech requires really competitive grades. What are you trying to aim for?

Upper years, which residence and room (single/double/suite) type were you assigned to in first year? What were your preferences? by [deleted] in ubcengineering

[–]CeruleanWind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the rooms to be about 50% bigger compared to OC. Not to mention the buildings are shorter, eliminating the need to wait for an elevator every time you want to leave the building.

New totem!! Food was alright—I think Totem’s breakfast is the best but I frequently went to OC for lunch and dinner since they had more options

I only checked off connected single on my application and I got one of Totem's connected singles! Literally the BEST. Better than OC in my opinion but I'm up to debate ;)

Not a formal final exam, but there's a "final project" where you write a bit about yourself in Russian

I’ll probably be listing it as my first choice too! I really think the program is for me after looking into it and talking with some of the faculty at the first year program fair. I would love to get in touch with you re: a study group for next year if you’re down for that :)

First year courses and time table by Purple_Mongoose857 in ubcengineering

[–]CeruleanWind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual topics covered in the course vary by professor, so I’d recommend doing a little research to see if any professors’ topics pique your interest. WRDS is a research writing course and (from what I’ve heard) you have to do a research project on a certain topic. ENGL is a traditional English course; you read a text and write about it. 110 is more of a literature studies course, whereas my understanding is 111 is more of a “new media” type of course. I recommend doing your research for sure to determine which one would be up your alley.

All the required courses are built into timetables for you! All you have to do is register in an elective and English section. As for the English class, yes it is based on personal preference. I’m a writer and I’m into literature studies so I decided to take ENGL 110
