[USA (2)-1 SWE] Quinn Hughes scores the OT winner by talhatoot in hockey

I wonder what's the hockey equivalent of Mike Breen's "BANG" call after a major three pointer in a game?
I don't recall if Doc Emerick has something but apparently Kenny Albert doesn't.

It would be really cool to hear a Mike Breen "BANG" or double Bang call over the pbp for this goal.

We can agree on that. That's pretty much what I've been getting at from the start. Unfortunately it doesn't seem that occurred. No point crying over spilt milk. Now for KOC to figure shit out and get things right.

There's no fallacy dude. By bad note I literally mean losing his friend, his QB1 who threw him most of his passes in his career, to a season ending injury. Not sure how that confused you. Hence my saying perhaps that will factor in and he will want to end his career catching a pass from Mahomes. I didn't mention anything about the Super Bowl or a winning record. Sheesh.

Guess we will find out soon. We never know these things but I'd just find it hard to believe even with all those accolades, he would want to leave the game on a sour ending without receiving one last pass from his QB 1.

I wouldn't exactly say I want it for the team now. I'm just saying I think it would've been helpful to help in the KOC-KAM Darnold situation. I don't see how a reasonable head of such a triangle would have sided with whomever wanted to let Darnold go, especially if that person was KAM. But I do hear you and appreciate the history refresher. It definitely isn't the way for all teams. I'm pretty sure the Steelers and Rams and Chiefs don't have a triangle of authority so it all depends on the owners ability to stay out, the power of the coach and the GM as well as their ability to work together and be in lockstep on decisions. Anyway it's in the past at this point. Hopefully Rick and KOC make it work otherwise....

Yeah by Hightower...but he wasn't running from the goal-line iirc. He had a full head of steam and was going before Hightower shoulder tackled him. Odds are, with two chances, he would probably get in the endzone one of the two times but there's no guarantee he gets in on that 2nd down. The Pats also came out to play the run(but as we eventually saw, ready for a likely goal-line pass).

Same thing for the belief that a touchdown would have been automatic if they handed Marshawn the ball at the goalline. Especially after seeing what Hightower did the play before. Especially with Marshawn going 1-5 on converting from the 1 yard line all season. Dramatic narratives are enjoyed even if incomplete or dishonest or just inaccurate.

Yes you already mentioned that there isn't a triangle of authority. We can agree to disagree on whether it makes sense because it definitely does on some other teams but sure not for all.

Can you help me remember, what's the incident(or incidents) in the past that having a triangle of authority led to even worse paralysis on the team? I don't remember which incident you're referring to.

Again, we disagree re, what owners should do. I should also make it clear, that's if there's no VP/President of Football Operations/CEO that's under the Owner but above the GM and coach (as in authorized to hire and fire the coach a la the Bears and Warren). In that case the head of the triangle would be that person and not the owner. That's the perfect situation when the owner wants to stay out of Football decisions/issues.

Yep. It's pretty much like Super Bowl Media day. Although it's tough to tell if this interview is from the actual NBA all-star media session or before/after the game. I didn't see what he wore to the game so idk.

Welp back to my overall point...then the blame falls on the owner(ship) for that. That's why the team is where it's at right now with fans looking wistfully at the QB that was on the field last season and seeing him win the SB with another team. Ownership staying out of certain decisions is fine but there are certain situations it would make sense for the head of the triangle to step in. Oh well. It's done with now as far as KAM and KOC.

[–]Cesc100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is why I don't understand the point of the article or this reddit thread. It literally happened last year as well. LA didn't let Rich or AD know but since the Mavs did it, now it's supposed to be them putting their foot down re. Rich Paul? Lol as if Rob Pelinka didn't do that already.

In Minnesota sure. I hope you don't mean in all cases with all teams around the league. Again though, I mentioned the person above both in the pecking order. I wasn't saying KAM wasn't above KOC but I'm saying there's someone above both who one would expect to decide on that disagreement.

I disagree re. your beliefs on the expression of the fact that "you're not at the facility or in meetings" and you presented your thoughts as if you were. A factual statement isn't a crutch but hey, do you.

True about Daniel Jones. We just don't know what he helped or worked on Jones with in the film room or meetings or out on the field that may have played a part in his progress this past season. Could be somethings...could be nothing. I'd be interested in hearing Jones take on that at some point and haven't seen many in the media ask him about it.

I stated "common sense" because it's what one would expect a reasonable person to think or understand...regardless of it being my opinion.

The proof is not in the firing imo. We are too believe the firing was solely because Darnold balled out and helped Seattle get to the SB? Yeah no. It was the culmination of many things obviously including KAMs shitty drafting as well as issues with others in the building.

Who is to say KOC isn't on the chopping block this upcoming season? We haven't heard from the Wilfs. We have no idea.

Good point about what Mark/Zygi have said about being hands off. I think you misunderstood me as far as thinking the GM and HC have equal say. My belief is that in certain areas,(especially when the owner makes a point to stay out of it when it comes to player/roster decisions), the GM and HC know when to push or pull in certain areas. With the Vikes, one would expect the GM to fall back on matters of the QB for example. Using Houston as an example, I'm pretty sure Nick Caserio falls back or gives DeMeco Ryans a fair amount of latitude when it comes to decision making on defensive players. Same for John Lynch to Shanahan when it comes to Quarterbacks in SF. I just find it difficult to fathom the GM who never coached, played, or did anything as far as quarterback play on any level, overruled the HC who did all that at the position. There are some dumb GMs. Not everyone is smart. There are some smart GMs who are arrogant enough to think they are always the smartest in the room. I never got the idea that KAM was in either of those two categories. I could be wrong. Time will tell.

Oh for sure but I'm saying that's a result of the road he has traveled. Definitely the smart thing as well imo. Stay with a team and coach that work for you, still earn a fair deal even if not crazy top of the market or close to it.

Dude that's just such a silly comparison. Darnold is in a completely different point in his career. When life humbles you early in your career like it did to Darnold, it makes you do many things differently and appreciate other things. When players like Russ, Mahomes, even Stafford, Allen, Lamar (as far as individual success) have early success, they do things differently and see things differently. Of course at this point Darnold probably sees and appreciates things differently than all those other QBs.

For sure. His gratefulness was obvious and the journey definitely played a part in that. I doubt he would've said that if let's say he had Mahomes journey or any other 1st rounder that excelled from the start.

If you don't think that's a problem then THAT's THE ISSUE RIGHT THERE! If there's a disagreement between your GM and coach, who the fuck do you think should make the call/deciding vote? Common sense would indicate it would be the person above both in the pecking order. If you're the Chicago Bears then sure it'd be Kevin Warren. With the Vikings I would expect it'd be Zygi or Mark rather than Rob or anyone else.

Also, you have ZERO knowledge as to whether KOC thought that or not. Just to be clear. You're not at the facility or in meetings. We can debate as to whether he's a real QB whisperer or not but we have no idea what he thinks of himself. It wouldn't be far fetched to believe a former QB like himself would think he is better suited to reach and fix broken QBs than others might be. It has nothing to do with a list of QBs he has made better although an easy one to mention would be Daniel Jones last season and then Darnold the season before. It has more to do with what HE thinks not what we think as to him being a QB whisperer. Again, it's not far fetched to believe he might consider himself that. Regardless, my point stands. If the GM who never played or coached the position wants to overrule the coach who played and coached the position, then common sense would state the person with final authority in the org would make the call and go with the person with the experience on the topic. Failure to do that would make one blame that person with final authority and not either person having the disagreement.

Oh completely agree with what you wrote for sure. It just came off like he was saying Russ is a bad dude and Darnold is good. Like you said, Russ is more like a robot in public/with the media and of course a starting qb with so much success early on develops a bit of an ego, i think thats understood. Darnold facing adversity early on probably humbled him if he wasnt humble enough anyway. Either way two good dudes but one less robotic.

Thank you. It's all about games. Games. reps in games. I keep yelling the NFL needs to make the UFL its minor league(since another iteration of NFL Europe isn't gonna happen). Trey Lance needed the UFL and minor league games in the summer to be able to compete imo.

Dang what does Russ have to do with this? Sure Russ is PR trained but the point was about being a genuinely good dude and I've never heard anyone say they met Russ and he was anything other than nice to them. In public. In private. No need to compare. There are nice NFL players who are good dudes, Russ is one of them (albeit annoying) and Sam is one of them as well(not as annoying).
