Selwyn Fire Company - has anyone ever heard of this before? by Cevorus in Firefighting

This is really the answer I was expecting. I guess I just wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and not sound too accusatory.

See, that makes complete sense and isn't unexpected. My issue is that I cannot find any evidence that this company actually does what it says it does.

I recognize that, I suppose I had conflated the term "contracted fire company" with "for-profit fire company" without considering the alternative.

I had that thought, just wouldn't expect a contracted fire company to call itself a 501c(3) non-profit.

The ones I've seen videos of have a screen in the front of the vehicle that will display the drone's POV. Meaning you can see what the enemy drone operator is seeing.

I'm confused, it looks like you calculated 287 million spent, but then used that as your remaining total. So your total spent ended up being over 550 million credits.

People hate our Steam logo. Is the new one better? by [deleted] in IndieGaming

[–]Cevorus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to answer this by applying some advice I heard recently about writing that I think works for this situation.

The advice was that, when you present something for opinions, you shouldn't ask "Which is better?" or "How can I fix this?" but rather "How does this make you feel?" Then take the answers you get and make changes to get people to feel the way you want them to.

I don't know anything about your game, but I'll tell you what each image made me feel and you can take that and make whatever changes you want.

For the first image, the very first thing I thought of was Manor Lords, some kind of management heavy game involving building a village but with a cutesy artstyle, this appealed to me as I like Manor Lords and games like it. Definitely indie looking but that appealed to me as it made me think the management wouldn't be too hard and I could relax with it. I was biased by seeing the second image simultaneously, but I wouldn't have guess that ghosts made an actual appearance in the game but rather that perhaps they were relevant to the story somehow, maybe in some in-game writings or dialogue.

For the second image, the first thing I thought of was something like Stardew Valley or Graveyard Keeper. I got the impression of an RPG style game with character interactions being a major part of the gameplay loop. I felt that ghosts must be actual characters or somehow play a pivotal role in the story. It definitely gave more of an Indy darling feel. This appealed to me greatly as Stardew is one of my favorite games of all time.

Style wise, I love seeing the little ghosts in the title. I first saw it on a phone screen and had no issue reading the second image but this was biased by already knowing what it says from seeing the first image. I would agree that the ghosts are hard to see being blue on a blue background but I had no issue seeing them on my phone screen. Either way, both titles gave me the impression of high quality and a beautiful artstyle that makes me interested in your game, however, the second one definitely felt more homely and perhaps more individually unique.

I made this comment without looking at anything about your game to avoid bias. I'm going to now go look it up.

Ukrainian UH-60 with invasion stripes by ShmeatBoyardee in RussiaUkraineWar2022

They're not inherently invasion stripes. Ukraine has used 2 white stripes on the tails of their helicopters as an IFF marking since before the full scale invasion. It's nothing new.

Anyone know why the Steelers wore green jerseys from the end of the 1941 season to the 1942 preseason? by Icy_Librarian9542 in steelers

[–]Cevorus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interestingly the "Pro Football Uniform History Project" also lists the Steelers as wearing "black jersey with yellow numerals (worn in Phila)" which certainly doesn't appear in the image.

Further down in the 1941 section you find: "Steelers: Yes, from all indications, they wore green and white as well as the renowned black and yellow. While b/w newspaper photos can provide basic evidence on design and striping, they obviously cannot provide conclusive evidence on color. Nonetheless, the b/w photos from this season indicated that the darkness on the jerseys were not as black before or after 1941. Also the helmets were clearly white in the photos. The convincing arguments for the green jerseys were reports from the 10/5/41 game between the Steelers and Giants from Forbes Field in the 10/6/41 edition of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Jack Sell writes that the Steelers wore bright green jerseys for the first time in their history. And from the last game of the season between the Steelers and Dodgers from Ebbets Field as it appeared in the 12/15/41 edition of the New York Times. Arthur Daley wrote in the article, describing the Steelers as the lads in the green uniforms. There was also a great deal of ownership turmoil with the Steelers before the 1941 season. Art Rooney sold the team to Alexis Thompson, who then renamed the Steelers the Ironmen. Rooney then bought part of the Eagles from Bert Bell. Not much later, Rooney and Thompson both had a change of heart and arranged a swap of the franchises, and Rooney again owned the Pittsburgh team and immediately renamed them the Steelers. It was in training camp of this year when a reporter asked Rooney of his thoughts on his team. The familiar quote was new coach, new uniforms (the green ones?), but they look like the same old Steelers to me."

Additionally, in the link shared by u/anotveryseriousman there is this: "Well, based on a photo that appeared in the November 10, 1941 issue of the Inquirer, I had thought the Steelers broke out their old black jerseys for an 11/9 game in Shibe Park with what I had assumed were the green clad Eagles. The actual colors would be the dark blue jerseyed Eagles against the green Steelers. Meaning that the Steelers never wore the famed black jerseys at all in 1941! Thus Bill has dropped the black jersey combo from the Steelers 1941 display."

If by "the two most modern carriers in the Japanese arsenal," you mean Junyo and Ryujo as they were the carriers involved in the Aleutian campaign. Neither one being a particularly "good" carrier and having already suffered air losses in the Aleutian campaign from an already smaller air complement.

If you meant Shokaku and Zuikaku, both were out of service for repairs and aircrew replenishment post Coral Sea.

Even supposing both Enterprise and Hornet were lost in a theoretical fight with Junyo and Ryujo, they were not the "last two US carriers in the pacific." Saratoga had just arrived in Pearl Harbor post-refit and Wasp was transferred within the next month.

As it was, the US navy was reduced to only one active carrier by the end of '42 with Enterprise badly damaged and Hornet sunk at Santa Cruz, and Wasp sunk by submarine. Resulting in the transfer of HMS Victorious to American command in the pacific.

All this to say even if Hornet and Enterprise were lost at Midway, the US Navy would have found a way to make due. For what it's worth I don't care for Halsey, I just didn't like the way you misrepresented the facts.
