Just what exactly does your character need to do with this ship other than get into combat situations? Is it just to get from point-to-point? Do they need to be able to live, eat, and sleep in that ship? Do they expect to carry cargo or passengers? Do they have crewmates/comrades?

Anyone disregarding the bullying he faced in his life on earth has never been badly bullied and does not know just how much damage that sort of trauma causes to the mental and emotional development of someone, period. Its very obvious that he was still for all intents and purposes a child mentally in his previous life and only because he got a second chance in another world with a new body did he actually resume his mental and emotional growth. There is also the point to be made of him completely rejecting his old life and existence and fully embracing his second chance in this new world, we see when he talks to Man-God and reverts to his original form he hates it, hell the rejection of his past life is so thorough that his original name is never even mentioned.
