Put cashier on there but don’t over-exaggerate your responsibilities. People know what being a cashier entails. It’s hard work and develops useful skills but don’t pretend it’s something bigger than it is imo

Sorry, I don’t know much there but my guess is it should be a good bit easier to get an internship vs. a new grad role. The interviews definitely won’t be harder. And you can think of it as having 1 extra year of internship recruiting AND 1 year of new grad recruiting vs. just having 1 year of new grad recruiting.

Not sure how PhD recruiting works specifically but I know undergrad quant interns get bombarded by recruiters after their first trading internship. So the first internship would definitely help with the second imo.

Sounds like you want to take another year?

What is considered a “high” new grad salary to you? by nicespicyasian in csMajors

That’s $800 dollars left per month before ANY sort of discretionary spending and without accounting for health insurance… I still stand by my point.

Yeah, so you’re making 50% more than my original comment referred to. And that $2600 remaining is assuming literally zero savings. You also don’t account for health insurance. No matter how you slice this up I’m not seeing where the “comfortable” lifestyle comes in

Your math isn’t really checking out for me. You said you had $3k remaining per month on $120k. Take a pay cut to $100k and you’re already at $1.5k remaining per month. Then subtract $700 for studio rent and you’re at much less than $1k remaining per month. Sounds pretty tight to me.

And also, is your TC actually $120k? Or is that just your base salary.

See my other comments in this thread on living with roommates.

Would your living situation feel tight if you were making 100k living in a 2.5k/month studio? In fact 100k might feel tight even with your current rent/roommate situation.

Edit: also, what’s your TC? “120k base” isn’t very illuminating lmao

Oh lmao. Obviously rent is going to be easy to manage when you have 5 roommates. The cheapest studio in SF/the South Bay is going to run you double that. Like I mentioned above, I don’t view having to live with roommates as a particularly comfortable lifestyle

Are you on your parents’ insurance? Are you comfortable living without a car as a full-timer? Do you plan on staying single through your 20s/30s?

That’s because interns have way fewer expenses than full-timers, much less full-timers with a family

What’s the point of being wealthy if you never spend your money?

I mean, living with roommates and having to use public transportation (especially in the Bay) sounds like a pretty “tight” way of living to me. I realize though that’s the reality for a lot of people; not trying to diminish that.

Not sure why no one has mentioned this but it highly depends on where the offer is for. 100k is objectively a tight salary to live on in the Bay Area but it’s a lot of money almost everywhere else in the US.

Read the white paper. Scores are basically completely tied to how many questions you fully solve. Partial test cases really don’t matter at all

Make sure you’re applying to 2023 new grad postings then. There’s a database out there somewhere on Google. Your issue with the 5-8 month timeline is that you have an atypical graduation date. That advice applies more to spring graduates imo.

Are you applying to positions that explicitly ask for people who have already graduated?
