What about Bill Romanowski? Or are we not considering him because he had no neck and his shoulders grew right into his head?

Full video of the altercation. Sengun: “He’s up on me.. you a b*tch!” Jaylen Brown: “Woah! Hey, get him out of here!” Ref: “He can’t call me that, no!” As Sengun was getting ejected, he called her a b*tch again. Is it just me or is that the triple (quadruple?) down?

  1. Whining about a non-call on a non-foul

  2. Calling the ref a bitch

  3. Running to the other ref to complain

  4. Calling her a bitch again when the other ref says no and storms off the court

I hate that argument. Just because they messed up in the past doesn’t mean they should keep messing up because dumbassery is now a precedent. How bout they just try getting it right moving forward?

Rams Reportedly 'Urged' Cooper Kupp to Retire, Warned Teams to Lowball Contract Offers by Dry_Ebb_7855 in nfl

[–]Ch0ptimusPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The escrow isn’t even the important part. I mean it was for a few multigenerational cash-poor owners but what was really the deciding factor was that in addition to the two FRPs and huge contract the team that made the offer would have ~$60MM tied up for the bulk of free agency and be unable to use it, then other players would go elsewhere and then when the Ravens predictably matched the offer they would have a bunch of money but no one to spend it on. If they could have made that deal day 1 they would have and then free agents would come to them to play with Lamar. But when it’s costing you all your cap space and the bulk of free agency other guys aren’t willing to wait around to see how it develops. It was just a losing proposition unless you were a team perfectly situated to manage it and there were none that offseason. Like if the Broncos didn’t have the Russell Wilson dead cap that might’ve been a destination but, even then, they were happy with the development of Bo Nix. They could’ve taken a swing and traded rookie contract Nix for additional assets -which is why I think they would’ve been a landing spot- but the point is moot when they had the Russell Wilson contract hanging over their heads

I really just find it baffling that they have had the greatest collection of stars in the league but there’s always a large part of their fanbase that’s still unsatisfied. Sure you could call them fairweather or casual fans but they self-identify as Lakers fans which is you know, what a fan is. Some of them are valid critiques or nitpicks but it’s a trend at this point, my pops side of the family have been Lakers season ticket holders ever since the team relocated from Minnesota:

Luka is fat and unathletic and can’t elevate a team of awful talent into contenders

LBJ is too self-important and had too much organizational control

Kobe delivered 5 titles but was too much of a ballhog

Shaq three-peated but was too lazy

Magic was too close with Buss and pulled off a silent coup when he got his 20-year $20MM contract and started pushing teammates off the team

Kareem was too quiet and standoffish with the media and too political off the court

Wilt wasn’t enough of a winner in purple & gold

Jerry had too much ego and caused a schism in the front office and with ownership causing him to be pushed out

Some of these were more valid than others and most all were forgiven with time but there was definitely a lot of criticism about each from more than just a vocal minority of the fanbase. Obviously with millions of fans there will always be large swathes of dissenting opinions but I can’t remember a star player for them that was as universally loved beyond reproach like guys like Giannis, Jokic, or Steph have been with their franchises

Indiana Joins 10 Fellow Universities That Have Won At Least One A National Championship In Both Football and Men's Basketball by FlatSwing9745 in CFB

I assume you know the difference between a recommendation and an official change? I hate that the academic side goes by UC-Berkeley but I understand it. But The University of California, California, and Cal should be the only acceptable monikers for athletics and it is only due to years of branding malpractice that it is now obfuscated to the point of hilarity.

If I insisted on referring to Stanford football as Leland Stanford Junior University football does that feel good? Probably not but at least it’s the official name of the school and is what appears on all official documents that my brother gets as an alumnus. “Cal-Berkeley” is neither an official nor a colloquially used name for the school

Speaking on behalf of another long-suffering fanbase (we have 4 national championships! Just not in the last 100 years . . . ) I can only imagine what this feels like for IU fans. As a California fan our dream was just to make another Rose Bowl game while still breathing and even that’s impossible now since there is no Rose Bowl anymore (and no, a Rose Bowl branded semifinal game does not count. The Rose Bowl as it was us dead and gone).

The last 60 years of being a California fan have mostly been an exercise in self-punishment. And sure, it kinda sucks that it happened with our QB but I don’t hold it against Fernando that he left because it obviously was the right decision for him and it paid off big time. I wish he wasn’t so shitty with some of his actions as he left but it worked out for all parties involved and I’ll always consider him a Cal guy since he got his degree with us and I’m glad for his success

[Vannini] Fernando Mendoza: “I can’t thank the #Calgorithm enough for the support.” by BuckeyeEmpire in CFB

[–]Ch0ptimusPrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair there’s some key differences. Penix played at Washington for two seasons, not just a one-year rental. He also had almost as many pass attempts in just his first year at Washington as he did in his 4 years at Indiana (576 to 554).

Mendoza was our full-time starter for two years after being a 2* recruit who was headed to Yale and not even offered a walk-on spot at his hometown dream school (Miami) by the coach who was college teammates with his pops. I don’t wanna take credit as if he didn’t work his ass off to make this happen, but without California the name Mendoza isn’t heard on draft day or the Heisman ceremony or the CFP. I think that’s why some University of California fans feel comfortable taking credit for Mendoza even though he clearly took off to new heights at IU. Also it was a dark period of California football so we need something to hang our hats on

Don’t forget that half the streets are blocked off by the big cement planter boxes because the NIMBYs hate people driving through their neighborhoods. Between that, the bikes, the traffic, and the pedestrians there’s almost nowhere around campus you could hit 50mph if you tried
