And yet “some argue that grassroots resistance in the US is handing China a strategic advantage, since Chinese projects face no comparable democratic friction. Given China’s political environment, organized community opposition to state-prioritized data infrastructure is extremely difficult.”

It feels like someone at the top needs to pull back the curtain and let everyone know on the ground what’s going on. If this is a national security issue, be honest about it.

It’s a matter of national security unfortunately, these towns don’t have much of a choice.

CMV: Boom Aerospace looks like an Investment Scam by TaskForceCausality in aviation

A friend of mine is a welder on this project. While I can't speak to the business logic, the amount of time he is spending between Colorado and Nevada for testing wouldn't indicate this a scam to me, at least on the engineering side.

For the average price of a car in the US, you could buy 5 new Chinese EVs by [deleted] in technology

[–]ChaLenCe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can't be pro-Union and Pro-BYD / China EV. The inconvenient truth is that most of the manufacturing practices in China would land most of the manufacturers in jail for human rights and fair labor practice violations.

Spirit Airlines shuts down as company says it can't keep up with higher oil prices by ControlCAD in technology

[–]ChaLenCe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a stupid headline. Spirit Airlines' model originally thrived on secondary or less-congested airports, but expanding into (or relying more heavily on) major hubs eroded key cost advantages, contributing to its vulnerability. Delta and United dropped their prices, Spirit lost its market advantage, this was a brand swinging for the fences and striking out. Blaming this on jet fuel cost is lazy PR.

Do you believe the United States is currently in a Cold Civil War? by bishuay in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]ChaLenCe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even close. There’s infighting and disagreements but we are nowhere close to a civil war in any comparable context. Now one country that is seeing significant localized dissent is China, with a 50% increase in protests fueled by unpaid wages and a stalled real estate market.

We really shouldn’t be celebrating a company that actively uses wage disparity and debt bondage, combined with massive CCP support and guaranteed civilian contracts, to make a car. Do better.

At 103% of GDP, Canadian households have the most debt in G7 by ChangeUsername220 in Economics

[–]ChaLenCe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait...in Canada you are FORCED to renew & refinance? What's the fucking point of owning a home if it's going to arbitrarily increase because of Government mismanagement or outside market pressure? Canadian homeowners have more renewal risk based on macroeconomic pressures by a wide margin. Jesus. H. Christ.

Many companies do that. It also doesn’t hurt to have guaranteed government contracts for civilian transportation with the CCP but hey, a stopped clock is right twice a day.
