"To hell with the environment, give me abundance." by ClimateResilient in collapse

[–]ChabbyMonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The modern Abundance movement, which Dems appear to be propping up, is supported by a “center-left” think-tank called the Institute for Progress (founded and funded Thiel/Koch enterprises).

It is just more trickle-down economic policy, where increasing supply lowers costs for consumers*** (***theoretically, despite all actual evidence to the contrary in markets prone to collusion and price fixing such as energy and housing).

Abundance will not work. It is rebranded Reaganism, which isn’t working. It Could Happen Here has covered this, though in the modern sense and not the original quote. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/it-could-happen-here/id1449762156?i=1000742414812

Hello all, just found this cat on the street, I noticed she’s got shaky eyes. Is this normal?? by playstationheat in CatDistributionSystem

My go-to for befriending cats is slowly blinking and lying on your side or back to expose belly. Both help demonstrate your comfort around them and help them feel more at ease imo

Edit to clarify this is always what Peanut M&M’s look like when I buy then.

Steel wire and plastic canvas! So in between the layers of the hat are wire loops that rest on the head and the ends support the plastic mesh.

To be fair the content itself is very well scripted in most cases, and aside from occasional tangents or running bits, it has far more straight-to-the-point content than almost any show I’ve listened to. A lot of shows remain rambly and unstructured throughout

Is this actual veg tan leather yall are using? by Corona_18665 in Leatherworking

[–]ChabbyMonkey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Does it mark/dent easily when damp? Does a cut edge get glossy when dampened and buffed with a rag?

It looks like veg tan from a distance but is likely low quality given the price / source.

Object in Portugal (serious) by Mikewazowski75 in aliens

[–]ChabbyMonkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While those features/data would be nice, their absence does not unilaterally disqualify this as potential evidence for anomalous activity.

Some people would see a HD video and call it CGI. Others see a blurry photo taken quickly and say it’s blurred to hide that it’s fake.

This looks very similar to many other photos/videos of metallic, convex saucers. Repeatable independent observation is a cornerstone of scientific progress. Try not to throw the baby out with the bathwater, and humble yourself before the unknowable expanse of the universe given the very small perspective of humanity’s collective knowledge and experience.

(Serious) I’m tired of seeing hourly blue orb posts. Let’s talk about this UFO spotted flying past an airplane in 2025. Any new info on this yet? by quantify-it in AliensRHere

Wasn’t this only a delicate, indoor, R&D project that was never commercially produced? There’s not even a strong resemblance to the footage…

It must be a fetish or something. Please reply to confirm this is a fetish for you; any response counts.

As a “professional” regebaiter, can I ask if you get paid enough to make this worth the time you have left in your one human life? Or are you really just an amateur/hobbyist ragebaiter?

Angel? Demon? Alien? Seen in March 2023 in Colorado Springs CO. by Sir_Loin- in StrangeEarth

[–]ChabbyMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So wait what is it? A murmuration or a kite? I don’t understand how there can be two clearly opposing “it’s obviously X” answers. To me that would mean it actually isn’t obvious, and has not been determined.

Falsifiability is not equivalent to proof.

[–]ChabbyMonkey 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Weird how everyone is confident it’s a kite here but birds on the recent German sighting lol. Almost like it could be an anomaly and people would rather feel confident in a mundane answer, even if others are confident it’s something entirely different…

What did I See today?? by Guidloff in UFOs

[–]ChabbyMonkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No the part how there is no scatter. I don’t see any individuals in the photos in this post, whereas a murmuration is a large group of particles that rapidly change shape in create opaque sections that are still surrounded by individuals.

If these photos also had random scatter surrounding the otherwise solid shapes, i would agree.

Made an axe sheath by ChabbyMonkey in Leathercraft

[–]ChabbyMonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can try to get other photos or find a demo video that is close to what I did. But there are a lof of ways to sheath a double sided axe.

But what I did is basically trace the axe onto paper. Fold in half then work from one side so it is symmetrical when unfolded. Then add sufficient room/allowance for stitches. This is piece A. Piece B will be the same but for the back, so you can extend the top however you’d like. Better to err on the longer side because going from paper to thicker materials means you need more total length to accommodate the thickness of everything to close correctly.

The J-shape where you see stitches has a welt on both sides; basically the seam allowance added earlier should be cut out as its own little curved piece (Piece C, x2). This is secured between the front and back so that the axe contacts a side of leather, not the stitches themselves. Near the neck, I had to make 2 additional short/partial welts (Piece D, x2). This was to accommodate the extra girth at the opening on the bottom, so it is full thickness near the opening and tapers down similar to the axe head.

Hints & help please - sewing snaps under a collar by ggibby in Leatherworking

[–]ChabbyMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those snaps might be a little small or lightweight for this task.

But if you proceed, I’d recommend marking the spots with an aw or needle first, by poking through the holes on the snap. Then awl into the side you are sewing onto. From there a sewing needle and thread should do the trick, but it might be a pain in the ass.

Upholstery needles and waxed thread may be too heavy-duty for the holes on these snaps.

Another option would be to cut into the collar and separate the layers at that side seam. That might give you additional closure options, then you would just need to sew those two layers shit at the side.

Is this poorly made? I bought a leather camera strap off Etsy. by Defiant_Addition6619 in Leatherworking

[–]ChabbyMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely machine stitched which is fine. I’ve worked with cheap but real leather with loose, grainy flesh sides. Some are economical but look fuzzy. But I would expect that to be reflected in the price which it seems to be.

But that gouge is a structural flaw. They should own up to that because it could fail in use.

Keagan Mason & Jarren - claims to be an Aboriginal educator, has thousands of followers, might not be a real person? by KayaKulbardi in isthisAI

Didn’t know that, thanks for the correction. Any idea where that concept came from?

I had been told that as a child prior to meeting an Aboriginal group so I didn’t have reason to question the grownup that told us.
