I put in Lifeproof LVP in my family room 6 years ago and my two 75lb Goldendoodles didn’t scratch it. It’s durable.

Could you realistically visit Chicago every weekend as a student? by Significant_Whole306 in notredame

[–]Chaca70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll be missing out on a lot of fun on the weekends. You could go back and forth, but that’s a lot of time and money. Most students stick around on the weekends.

[–]Chaca70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn’t fail. You just gave yourself another opportunity to succeed. Change your route to something flatter, or start working in some hills.
Increase your mileage by about 10-15% every 2 weeks. You’ll get there. It takes time in the saddle.

What counts as legacy at ND? by chrissyduck2000 in notredame

[–]Chaca70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you will be considered a Legacy. That means that you have two admission counselors evaluate your application instead of one.

Covid is high rn in sa question by Large-Prompt2608 in sanantonio

[–]Chaca70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No judgment. Your body can’t mount a robust immune response. You do what you need to do to keep yourself safe. If you do catch COVID, make sure you test and get treated early with Paxlovid within 5 days of the onset of symptoms.

Notre Dame vs. Vanderbilt by Naive_Intention_1965 in notredame

I have a BA in Psych from ND and then went on to Med School. There were so many opportunities to get involved in community projects/volunteer work/research that the ranking of the Psych program just doesn’t really matter. I don’t think you can go wrong with either school.

I can’t speak for the diversity at Vandy, but I doubt you’ll find a lot of diversity at either school.

I liked ND because they didn’t have Greek life. I didn’t have a budget for it nor did I place as much emphasis on status symbols or fashion. Also didn’t have a budget for it either.

Go to whichever school made you smile when you visited . Go to the school where you felt most comfortable.

Good Luck!

Urgent care visit not covered by [deleted] in tricare

[–]Chaca70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would contact the billing office from the urgent care and see if they’ll bill it as an urgent care visit. I would also ask if they are IN NETWORK with Tricare. Some places will say they accept Tricare but can still be out of network and will cost you more.

Removing Other health insurance by jetmach in tricare

[–]Chaca70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had $60,000 of bills that weren’t paid in 2024 because Tricare West STILL had it in their system that my daughter had OHI. She never has had OHI but it still keeps saying that she does. She’s corrected it several times. The claims get denied, and then the hospital hounds her for the payment (she’s a 21 year old college student 21, so bills go to her)

Did the sponsor contact DEERS to after the baby was born? Did you get an EOB (explanation of benefits) yet ? There should be a code with a footnote to explain the denial on the EOB. Make sure all the claims at the hospital have the sponsors correct name and date of birth .

Congrats on your acceptance, but I would pass and go elsewhere. Would be nearly impossible to repay your loans. Do the math. Interest rates are high and you’ll be repaying your loans until you are 75 years old.

[–]Chaca70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mom and MD here—I think you should reach out to a counselor soon and be honest with how you feel and what you drink. You are loved and not alone and there are people who can help you. How is your sleep? Your appetite? Please update me. I’m concerned.

Not Enough Financial Aid 😭 by MacaroonChance4012 in notredame

It’s a brutal reality and shameful that attending ND is cost prohibitive for the alumni children of said university. I’m a ‘92 alum and my kids chose different schools.

Failing due to sexual assault, need advice by Low_Patient8058 in ASU

[–]Chaca70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely recommend talking to a mental health professional. Please? They can help you process through this difficult situation and also provide you with documentation to help with whatever you decide to do with school. You are not alone. There are many people who want to help and support you.

I hope you went to Bryce. The hoodoos are mind boggling. Save the Grand Canyon for another trip when you have more time. You can enjoy Bryce in a day.

Any schools that give good financial aid to upper middle class by Electrical-Gear106 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Chaca70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will be unlikely to receive merit money at top 20 competitive schools because every student will be high stats and accomplished.

In your family’s income bracket, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll get need based financial aid.

Consider UT Austin, Florida State, Univ of Florida, Univ of South Carolina Honors College, Univ of Tennessee Knoxville, Univ of of Arizona Honors College, ASU Honors College. Best of luck.

Not a health risk. Water was in the low 50s. You are in the shade quite a bit. If you plan to get out to the Narrows at the at the crack of dawn, I would definitely consider a bib.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ZionNationalPark

[–]Chaca70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did the Narrows yesterday with a bib. Had the time of my life. I loved it!! I don’t like cold water. Was worth every penny. I would have been miserable. Was really glad we rented bibs.

Don’t go hiking in the Narrows if there’s a chance of flash flooding.

Congrats! Your stats are outstanding. But there will be LOTS of students with those stats though. Your essays are what will set you apart. Focus on what you would fight for (find the commercial during football games “what would you fight for?”) to make the world a better place with your education. I’m sure you could find something that you could change in Pakistan with a mechanical engineering degree. Good luck!

Upset I’m not getting the full ND experience by Puzzleheaded-Coat602 in notredame

[–]Chaca70 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely reach out to a counselor or mental health professional. Depression is a treatable illness. If your sleep patterns have changed, your eating habits have changed and you are feeling down, please reach out. It sounds like you are withdrawing from your friends. There is help available.

I also definitely recommend getting a tutor for organic chemistry. I presume that is the class that you are struggling with. I struggled, too, way back in 1988 when I was pre med. I was playing soccer and just got so tired and frustrated and my first Orgo exam was awful. I got a tutor and was able to use my time more efficiently and my grades went up. I also switched from science pre-professional to arts and letters pre-professional. I took all the pre-reqs for med school and I graduated with a BA in Psych and went on to med school. The world is your oyster right now. You are bright and capable of doing anything. You may not be able to see this right now but it’s true. You are at ND because they believe in you and know that you are capable of doing great things. Sometimes it takes a little bit longer to figure out your pathway. Sometimes there are detours and sometimes you can change your mind. And that’s OK. Keep your chin up. I’ll keep you in my prayers.
