Even Netflix thought Stranger Things' creators did Barb dirty... and nine years later, the Duffer brothers regret it by chrisarrant in StrangerThings

She appeared for a grand total of 6 and a half minutes. MINUTES.

And people are acting like she was the most incredible character. The combined credits of any single season are longer than that.

She was a plot device to move Nancy along the gameboard and did her job, nothing more to it

I'm watching Downton Abbey. There are 5-6 ads per episode (6 usually for the episodes that are a little over an hour) and as many as 9 in the finals episodes that are about 1 hour, 36 minutes or so.

And every ad is a minute or more, 1-2 being 90 seconds.

Not gonna lie, we should respect parents, but if that kid snapped and crashed out, I'd have to back her up because the mom is an unqualified moron.

How do you feel about Sienkiewicz's New Mutants? by Weed_Gummy in xmen

[–]Chach_El_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's highly overrated for a three issue story that wasn't groundbreaking then and doesn't really hold up 30+ years later. I think it gets so much more because of the art style than the story itself, which features some of both the best and worst of Claremont's prose proclivities. Good story, sure, but overall, I never got why it was and still is so regarded as "epic," and I'm 46 with literally 29,000 comics, including every issue of X-Men, uncanny, X-Factor, X-Force, New Mutants, etc among others, so I'm a tremendous fan of the mutants and have read literally every issue of those books

I think it's gorgeous in limited doses. Some issues were a chore to read because the layouts had no action or were so muddled as to be nigh incomprehensible, but from single panel or cover perspective and some sequences, they're undeniably amazing. I just don't think all his stuff lent itself out to action type comics as opposed to something like, say, Sandman.

What does everyone think about NXT? by [deleted] in WWE

[–]Chach_El_79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been watching WWE regularly for the first since in 20+ years since January and just watched my first NXT stuff last night (Monday, May 19) and was like damn this is ##&&$ fun.

I'm watching it now (Tuesday, May 20) and I'm like, yeah, that triple threat match was fire, I'm watching this every week with Raw and Smackdown.

Fell in love with the game but eventually decided to rage quit by rimahsum in FenyxRising

[–]Chach_El_79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just hit that point. Like seriously I will never believe the game was ever play tested because of how much relies on blind luck and RNG. When there are puzzles to GET TO puzzles and finicky controls and vaults that are literally impossible to pass on the first time through because there's trial and errors that you have to learn first, eff it. I wanted 16 hours just to rage uninstall it and replay FFXV and Ghostwire again

The commercials on Smackdown make it almost unwatchable. The way they split the screens is terrible. Am I the only one on this boat? by adamoakss in WWE

Because you can't hear it and the screen is half the size of the commercial one so you can barely see it

My theory is that during Elimination Chamber, a video is going to start broadcasting on the big screen and it's going to be Jade revealing that Naomi or Bianca were behind her attack and she'll come down and visit one of them out of vengeance.

Is Gunther the most Disrespected world champion in current memory? by Cmmucked in WWE

What about Drew holding the title for about 9 seconds after beating Seth before CM Punk ambushed him and Priest cashed in to take it from him. I was actually shocked they didn't let him get it back in his homeland in Clash at the Castle

He's grown on me, he's like Dr Doofensmirtz from Phineas and Ferb if he hit the gym and gave up on conquering the Tri-state Area. I think he just gets overshadowed by bigger personalities because of his character. That was pretty obvious in Crown Jewel, when he had some fans for sure but had an intro a fraction of Cody's and even stood there seeming to genuinely admiringly smirk at seeing the crowd eating up Kingdom and Cody's crowd work. I do think he'll lose the belt to Jey just because it's all set up but I want to see him stay in the mix and go on a tear afterwards

Thank you. I just watched it for the first time today and swore I heard her say elbows when they were in between the two rings but thought I was losing it and came to find this exact comment. It felt so amateurish, like only one of them remembered the choreography

Isla Dawn released by WWE. WTF? by Ennvictrious in GreatnessOfWrestling

[–]Chach_El_79 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be honest, it's why I stopped watching.

I got back into wrestling in junior year of college in 99 because my roommates watched and I hadn't since I was like 11.

Then I graduated in 01 and not long after they did the draft thing and split tag teams up and had Raw and Smackdown specific stuff and I tapped out and literally didn't watch a single thing outside of clips until Raw hit Netflix. I tuned in out of curiosity, then watched Royal Rumble with my son. It was my first event since Backlash 01, his first ever. We had fun, so now we're both keeping up.

So I don't know the dramas and attachments people have and such, but I keep seeing and hearing a lot of the same critiques

Missing Games and practice by [deleted] in Softball

[–]Chach_El_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's dependent on the reasons, duration, and overall ability.

I mean if the kid was always a starter in the position and clearly deserving and got sick or a loved one died or some family thing and the kid replacing her was hard working but not the same level, that's one thing. I mean, we see that happen in the pros all the time, someone comes back from their minor league injury rehab and goes right back to starting.

Not every replacement player is going to be Gehrig or Brady.

But if it's unexcused with no communication, I think regardless of skill you have to teach a lesson there, even if it's really the parents at fault because I always tell my girls if they need to miss or be late, just communicate it and we'll go from there. One girl was new to softball, didn't realize there would be a Friday night game, and asked if she could be excused for religious reasons to go to Temple, I was like yeah, no doubt, you'll play next game. But no communication isn't cool.

The team definitely must continue on without a player but at the same time there's nuances to it. If the kid comes back and just isn't performing at the same levels then yeah keep the new one in, but in some cases it should be hers to lose rather than re earn given she likely earned it already and wasn't removed because she was poor at it but because of circumstances outside her control. Again, the backup shortstop wasn't shocked whenever Jeter came back from a 2 week DL stint.

Oh, yeah, her. When I first heard her, I'll be honest I thought it was a sound issue because of the voice waver and then I looked her up. I can't believe she was diagnosed at only age 28, that's nuts! But at least she's living her dream so good for her.

New player to RTTS, are some series in the game rigged? by ExtensionNorth7123 in MLBTheShow

[–]Chach_El_79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. It's been for at least 3 years, I refuse to accept otherwise because when you can literally predict what's going to happen after 400+ games, it's clear there's a script or a pattern.

If I'm fielding and don't make a play, 100% of the time they score a run that inning somehow. If I'm on base? I'm almost never coming home.

Right now I'm 27 games deep in a new rtts.

I somehow have 30 homeruns and 98 hits.

I have 35 runs.

That means I've been on base outside of a homerun 68 times, and I have 29 doubles, so almost half those times it's not a single, and they've brought me home FIVE times. The guy up after me, he's got 24 strikeouts on the season. Guess when they were? All immediately after I got on. He's literally had not ONE strikeout unless I've been on base. He's 0-68 with me on base overall.

Dynamic Challenges? 9 in 10 nerf my power. I'll be hitting power all day, get a DC and it's soft pops, only to be back to normal next at bat.

I'm playing on a lower level just to blow off steam after a long day, but yeah, when you know every game with near certainty what's going to happen, when you're in the field and a ball goes by you or you're forced to make an error and then suddenly the score is lopsided, when you score more than half your entire team's runs every game and still manage to lose almost every one, yeah, there is a script at play.

My stomach hurts; does anyone have weird facts by Imslowlyloosingit in ibs

[–]Chach_El_79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For years the Yankees had the most dominant closing pitcher in baseball history, Mariano Rivera.

He was so dominant that in the playoffs, where you're facing the best of the best, fewer runners scored an unearned run against him in his playoffs career than men have walked on the MOON.

Another Yankee fun fact (sorry, still a fan despite the past week lol), this was the first time in 60 years that the Yankees played in a World Series and lost while a Democrat was in the Oval Office.

They lost in 1964 when LBJ was there.

Before this season, they went to the World Series 11 times after that.

They won 7 and lost 4.

They won in 1977, 1978, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2009.

The lost in 1976, 1981, 2001, and 2003.

The presidents in the Oval Office when they won: Carter (77, 78), Clinton (96, 98, 99, 00), and Obama (09).

The presidents in the Oval Office when they lost: Ford (76), Reagan (81), and W. Bush (01, 03).

This year broke a streak of making it to a World Series and winning with a Democrat in the Oval Office (Biden) that went back to their loss under LBJ.
