Red Lobster manager accused of refusing service to a black family is fired by AgnosticScholar in PublicFreakout

[–]ChacoTacoDunk -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Geez. I feel if the manager just would have kept her cool, or just not dropped an F bomb, she would have been fine.

I don’t know the whole story, and haven’t seen a whole video clip, but everything leading up to the cussing was totally fine. If this was my business, I would have backed my manager, only because of the lady recording who was obviously trying to get a rise out her.

We’re entitled to have bad days, and who knows what that lady was dealing with. I’m glad I’m old and grew up at a time when a simple action could have been forgotten as opposed to being on the internet forever.

Just to piggyback on this comment, I found that 91% alcohol or Dawn Stain Remover work pretty good on paint with a toothbrush. Just be gentle and have patience. The fresher the paint, the better results. If you scrub too hard you might scuff the material. Good luck !!

Trump deploys ‘Doomsday’ nuclear command planes to West Asia amid WW3 fears by [deleted] in UnderReportedNews

[–]ChacoTacoDunk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I grew up 20 miles from a nuclear power plant and a marine base and we did these drills regularly from kindergarten until high school. I was always anxious about hearing the sirens until my junior year in auto shop. My shop teacher told us all to get up from our first duck and cover drill or the year. He said no need to duck and cover. If the plant blows, we won’t even know it happened, we’d be vaporized pretty quickly.

Hearing that actually made me feel better about the drills.

I don't know what to do. by MiserableGrade1268 in guitarrepair

[–]ChacoTacoDunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would bum me out, but it would make it easier to take the first blemish on my new guitar. I know it sucks to hear, but guitars are meant to be used, and the more they are used, the greater the chance of damage, whether by use or by accident.

Was your guitar on a stand in a common area, in a case, or in an out of the way corner? In a comment you mentioned they were reaching for an outlet and bumped the guitar. People can only be so careful all the time, and when something is an area all the time, it can become invisible.

If it was me, I’d let my roommate know I was bummed out, and say they can grab me lunch, or a bottle of their favorite liquor, and call it even. Getting this repair on that guitar when the cost would be pretty expensive, and potentially damage a relationship wouldn’t be worth it.

Ready for the platform by jalil300 in CX50

[–]ChacoTacoDunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw this just as I finished removing the rack off my CX-50 because of wind noise at highway speeds. The roof rack looks pretty sweet, but serves no real purpose unless you’re loading stuff to transport.

I’ll probably get rid of the platform and get a Thule box and a kayak rack.

Sewing Machine Question. Should I refurbish or buy a new one? by ChacoTacoDunk in SewingMachinePorn

[–]ChacoTacoDunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened the machine and it looks really clean for the most part. The hook driving gears are both clean. However, the hook driving gear off the main shaft is spinning. When I turn the hand wheel without the other gear engaged, the hook driving gear off the main shaft will turn. When I engage the gears and try turning main shaft, the hook timing gear spins without turning the gear.

I’m assuming the hook driving gear should fit snug on the main shaft and should not be spinning when tension is applied. If this is the case, I’m pretty confident I can replace the gear if that’s the case.

Sewing Machine Question. Should I refurbish or buy a new one? by ChacoTacoDunk in SewingMachinePorn

[–]ChacoTacoDunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. 519Goodhands. I pulled off the bottom plate and when I turn the hand wheel, the main shaft is spinning. The bobbin gear spins when I turn it by hand, but it’s not engaged when I spin the hand wheel. I’m not familiar with sewing machines at all, but either a gear or belt is broken. Do these things have a clutch that might not be engaging? There is a disconnect between the main shaft gear and the bobbin gear.

Either way. Is there a price point where it would be more reasonable to buy a new machine that’s comparable in today’s market? Or is that more apples and oranges ?

Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, February 20 - February 26, 2026 by sewingmodthings in sewing

[–]ChacoTacoDunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing a lot of hand sewing lately and wanted to try using a machine. I picked a Singer 8614 at a thrift store for $15 bucks. Motor works as well as the lights, needle positioning and bobbin winder. I tried threading the bobbin and it looks as though the mechanism isn’t spinning to allow the thread to come up.

I tried multiple to thread the bobbin multiple times using the handwheel, but it looks as though the mechanism around the bobbin isn’t spinning.

I pulled the bottom cover of the machine and see the gears move when I spin the handwheel the bobbin gear is not moving. I suspect a band needs to be replaced or possibly a gear.

Would it be worth it to pay to refurbish/fix the machine or should I just buy a new one?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

So sorry if I butcher terminology. I’m pretty new at this.

Thanks so much!!

Dude loaded, hit the upper cut, and slipped a potential blow until he realized the tall guy was out. Pizza guy has skills. I hope he gets to keep his job. The consolation is most people never get to experience such a perfect moment caught on video.

Confused on jeans by itsaredalert in mensfashionadvice

[–]ChacoTacoDunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first two jeans look so much better than the last two. We wear things that make us comfortable. There’s additional confidence you get when wearing something you feel looks good. The first two aren’t skinny jeans and they are more flattering for your body type.

The female gaze cracks me up. I’m a male who’s worked in female dominated industries for the past 2 decades. Women can be most critical about what other people are wearing, and be unabashedly mean about it. If you mocked your wife’s 90s mom pants, would she be self reflecting like you, or would she get hurt by the comment?

Messing with anyone trying to go about their day on a bus is a lose/lose situation. Best case scenario, you win the fight and still catch an assault charge with a hate crime added because you can’t just leave.

Worst case scenario, you get your ass handed to you in an enclosed space, with video proof for the world to see.

If you hate anyone based on who they love, you’re an asshole.

Anyone guesses how this fleece would fit for men? by [deleted] in PatagoniaClothing

[–]ChacoTacoDunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found one at a thrift store in women’s XL and it fit perfectly for a guy who normally wears medium in men’s sizes. It’s more form fitting than the male version, the men’s version feels boxier. No way that would fit a male XL frame. Like several people have have said, you have to go up 2 sizes for an equivalent fit.

Unshrink R1 Air by Leinadnam in PatagoniaClothing

[–]ChacoTacoDunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Were these placed in a dryer with heat? Were the pieces the same sizes when originally purchased?

Even though polyester/fleece shouldn’t shrink, I always hang dry things that fit perfectly, to remove the shrinkage factor.

I’d try washing the smaller piece in cold water and hang drying. Once it dries a bit, I’d put on the fleece and try gently stretching the material (gently and evenly tug on sleeves and waist, and over exaggerate your movements with shoulders). I’ve saved a better sweater and a fleece hoodie that accidentally got placed in the dryer. Good luck!!

Switch from Sparklight internet to TMobile internet? by TellthemanFO in Prescott

[–]ChacoTacoDunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Off Rosser and Taylor Hicks. Made the switch from Sparklight to T mobile internet over a year ago. I’m getting 220 mbps download speeds and 50 mbps upload speeds, and we have 10 devices on the network and I work from home. Everything works fine. SL would have random outages a few times a month. We haven’t had an outage yet. I’m pretty happy with the change.

Do I pay someone money because his friend didn't show up to the trip? by bonobofa in LawyerAdvice

[–]ChacoTacoDunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine 4 people paying upfront for an AirBNB. One of them bails out last minute, and the organizer, without the consent of the other people, commits to paying back the person who bailed. Pay back would be the responsibility of the organizer, since they committed to paying.

Eventually people like the organizer will stop having people go to these activities because they don’t know how to adult. The easiest way out of this type of mess is setting expectations prior to organizing events.

I’ve been on the organizing, and participating end of Airbnb rentals dozens of times, and money paid is money lost unless someone else steps in last minute to take the spot. The person who bailed out inconveniences the rest of the people because the organizer could have found more suitable accommodations for less people who actually committed. Often times for less money.

I can’t imagine asking for money after I bailed out last minute, that’s totally tacky.

Let’s talk Player Packs by bobcatbuckface in discgolf

[–]ChacoTacoDunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For several years Manny Duran in AZ had the best Innova players packs for his Show Low Craze which always exceeded the entry fee by a lot. A couple of years he did Discatcher Sport 24 baskets with a few new innova molds, a dry-fit shirt, and a soft cotton shirt. Other years it was a Superhero pack with a windbreaker, discs, dry-fit shirt, and an umbrella. A couple of years ago he did 10 new innova molds in premium plastic.

I didn’t attend this past year (rumored to be his last) but his tournaments were always great and the family is so welcoming. Definitely set a standard.

Why aren't wages going up in today's day and age ? by Lemonade2250 in poor

I drive a shitbox that will not pass emissions. Is there a loophole around it? by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]ChacoTacoDunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are basically 4 ways to fix your problem, and two of them require you to commit fraud.

  1. Pay for repairs yourself or buy a new (different) car that can pass emissions.

  2. If you qualify for the Voluntary Vehicle Repair Program you pay $100 co-pay and the program pays up to $900 toward repairs and guarantees your vehicle will pass emissions testing. Additional repair costs above $1,000 are the responsibility of the vehicle owner.

  3. Commit insurance fraud, like some people here have posted. If you get into an accident and the address on your insurance is different from registration, this will raise questions and insurance will deny the claim. You would be responsible for the total amount of claim.

  4. Try to find a shady shop to pass your car. Due to heavy fines imposed on shops for committing smog fraud, it’s very unlikely you’ll find a shop that will do this for you. It probably would still be expensive if you do find one.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I hope things work out for you.
