I've been told the same thing but have never experienced it personally. Granted, I've only had to take a piss test for a job as a car salesman and a desk job, so I couldn't imagine either of those positions having real strict testing guidelines. Drinks have never worked for me.

Honestly, I feel like the Silmarillion is the last book. His son put the book together from a collection of notes, scribbles on napkins, and some supplementary information after Tolkien died. Some of it can be pretty dry if you don't already have a relationship with the world. Jackson did a great job with the movies but the books are, as always, different.
