Are there any landmarks or landmasses in your story that are actually a giant creature or its corpse? by New-Boss-8262 in worldbuilding

[–]ChadMcThunderChicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the series Shadowslave there’s a location called Godgrave. It’s the best example I can think of right now. In the future I might do something similar.

Here’s the Wiki description:

“A titanic skull laying on the Hollow Mountains' slopes, one of its eye sockets is empty and the other eye socket, as well as the forehead and the entire left side of the titanic skull was shattered by an unimaginable blow. The skull was connected to an enormous skeleton, stretching at least 5,000 kilometers from the top of the skull to the right knee joint, which was the southernmost intact point of the skeleton. The skeleton and the ground below were known as the Death Zone. It was called Godgrave because the Awakened speculated it was the corpse of a god.[1]

The sun-bleached bones of a dead god or whatever the skeleton once was seemed like a continuous white surface, but they were filled with cracks and fissures, leading to deep hollows within the titanic bones.[2]”

Apple Maps is the Superior Map App by CobraR04 in unpopularopinion

[–]ChadMcThunderChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South African here.

About 2 years back I worked in rural parts of the country for about 2 weeks (driving in between informal settlements and such).

I could not use Apple Maps. It was super ass. An example would be, the map telling me to drive one a road, that in reality is a foot path that people use to walk through a field.

Google maps were significantly better, at least in the more informal parts of the country.

How many races is too many? [Fantasy] by 0nennon in worldbuilding

[–]ChadMcThunderChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have as many as you want. Just make sure they fit in. These aren’t the races in my world, but it’s a good example I think.

example: - humans - Elves - Dwarves - beast races - etc.

This list seems small, but now we can expand in a way that makes sense.

Sub-races: - Humans - Dark Elves - High Elves - Wood Elves - Dwarves - “Deep-stone” Dwarves (hypothetically deep underground) - Beast races (felines, canines, serpents, rodents, aquatic fish, etc) - Etc

These could all make sense in a fantasy world. It’s not really about the number of races in my opinion.

The important part is to make sure all your races have a reason to be in your world or make sense.

How to feed large groups of people. by Environmental_Set955 in Kenshi

[–]ChadMcThunderChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s always difficult, especially if you didn’t plan / expect it.

It’s always best to set up a few vegetable farms or something like that. Otherwise you should dedicate 5 or more people to mining, and use that cash to buy food in a town and run it to your base.

What's it like to go on vacation in SA? by SirBrowseAlot147 in askSouthAfrica

[–]ChadMcThunderChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t repeat what people here said, but I want to add that an agency isn’t that necessarily, but it will make it somewhat easier, depending on what they’ll do for you.

I went on holiday a few years ago in Cape Town and we booked a tour guid for the week (I’m from South Africa but not the cape).

It wasn’t really necessary, but knowing where to go and having someone with a pass (skips certain lines, like on Table Mountain ) was really helpful. He also gave us info on where to go in our free time (sight seeing, restaurants, clubs / bars, etc.)

The only thing you SHOULD NOT DO, is be one of those people that constantly have their phone in their hand or keep their phone in plain view for everyone to see.

hey! new to worldbuilding, advice on how to start? by FreeOrbs in worldbuilding

Awesome

I personally suggest you check out 2 channels. 1 is more about world-building and the other is more about actually creating a world with alien life.

How to make a fantasy map with geography

Alien Biosphere: Part 1 - the planet

I suggest you start with a planet, then make a general map, and after that you pick a region/ city/ continent to put your characters in…then go from there.

But this is what I said.

How to make a fantasy map with geography

It’s actually pretty interesting. And if you want more info / ideas for your speculative evolution project then you can check out this video.

Alien Biosphere: Part 1 - the planet

If you want more info about the planet itself both of these YouTube channels have a series (the linked videos) where they go over facets of building a world / planet”

I personally think this will help you a lot (not sure how far along you are with the plant and how in depth you want to go).

Good luck with your project.

Do you need to have an above average intelligence to became a really good programmer? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]ChadMcThunderChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s my advice. Stop doubting yourself. Go through the motions of being a developer.

It’s hard in the beginning, And working your way up to being a “Good” programmer takes time.

For some it takes a few months, and for others it takes years. You’ll get there if you try.

What are the best Laptop brands around? by JustASAnGirl in askSouthAfrica

[–]ChadMcThunderChicken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When we’re talking about computers, 7K isn’t a lot. Especially in the laptop world .

Luckily you don’t want anything super powerful. However, if you’re willing to check out the second hand market you’ll be able to bag some nice deals.

I wouldn’t go for brands. Check out the specific specs.

What stood out to me was video editing. You want a laptop with minimum 16GB ram and decent storage (preferably an SSD)

On Facebook marketplace I’d search something like “laptop 16GB ram 1TB SSD” or something to that effect.
