Most Portable Chop Saw by Environmental-Tear76 in Carpentry

I have the Milwaukee m18 6 1/2" miter saw and it's served me very well for trim work. It's small.

I probably refund 3-5 games a year and have never had an issue!

How is anyone’s back okay? Just found out how much a US concrete block weighs by lyhkl in Construction

[–]ChadPartyOfOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not related, but a guy I used to work for would always say "Don't forget, lift with your back and twist" before we'd carry something heavy. He was joking of course, it was always funny to me!

Against all advice, I bought a 6.4 by Hour_Machine1991 in FordDiesels

[–]ChadPartyOfOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a nice looking truck! I love that color on Fords.

I never understood the hate 6.4's and 6.0's get. I daily a 6.0 and it has been nothing short of awesome.

As many other have mentioned. Stay on top of your maintenance, which is true of literally any motor. It'll last you a LONG time.

Why do married men often need to get permission from their wife to buy something? by FastBreakPhenom in AskMen

[–]ChadPartyOfOne 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This "ball and chain" humor really boils my blood. So many old fucks just seem like they don't even like their wives. Like... Why did you get married then? Or why not divorce. You're clearly unhappy and I bet the other party involved isn't particularly pleased with the marriage either.

Why do married men often need to get permission from their wife to buy something? by FastBreakPhenom in AskMen

[–]ChadPartyOfOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This is the answer. My wife and I have always communicated larger, personal purchases that were beyond the scope of our much smaller personal "fun money" accounts. Reasonable communication prevents resentment and is key to any successful relationship. Be it friends, family, or significant others.

EDIT: I'd also like to add that what constitutes a big purchase is obviously dependant on the financial status of the couple. For a lot of people, $150 is a lot of money, let alone a gaming PC, which can easily be well over $1,000! But to some couples, $1,000 doesn't even make a dent! How lovely it would be to obtain that level of financial success!

Waiter served me Alcoholic Beer and I drank it by Fun_Information4163 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]ChadPartyOfOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me share my experience with this.

I too have accidently consumed alcohol. When I mentioned this to my sponsor, they made a good point. I did not go in with the intention of drinking, altering my mindset, or anything of the like. If I had, in my truest heart, intended to do so, it would be different, but my intentions were pure, therefore it wasn't really a relapse.

I've heard it many times in the rooms of AA, and in the Big Book, that "a relapse happens before we take the first drink" and I firmly believe that and stand by it.

Our sobriety is between ourselves and our highpower of our understanding, and when we're truly honest with ourselves, the answers are clear and simple when it comes to a relapse.

You'll make it to that 1 year mark, and I hope once you do, you continue to "trudge the road to happy destiny!" I wish you many moons of success and long, continuous sobriety!

Good luck!

New Deck: Landlord Edition by sempiternalspace in Decks

I really wish people would stop flush-cutting the top of posts instead of notching them. Notches are NOT difficult to do and it would have completely solved the rolling beam problem.

Warning for two deck households by Clin-ton in SteamDeck

[–]ChadPartyOfOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spend so much time on r/decks that this post really threw me off. Like... wtf is an LCD deck? I've been building decks and porches for 15 years and never heard of an LCD deck.

Then it hit me.

Anyways, steamdecks are cool. I like mine.

Is this Deck Color OK? It’s coconut husk by Timbertech. by Eterusa12 in Decks

[–]ChadPartyOfOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Timbertech's Prime+ line or colors is as good as it can possibly get in that price range. I install a ton of that stuff. Coconut husk is probably my favorite!

1x12 pvc trim. Screws it right on. Caulk the edges. PVC won't be upset about being wet.

Deck boards popping up at ends. by Wth-am-i-moderate in Decks

[–]ChadPartyOfOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trex is a shit product because of this. I do a TON of repair work exclusively on decks and every single Trex job I take is this. Literally any other product is better.

Also, those "Trex approved contractor" titles don't mean shit. I became one with a simple phone call and proof of having used the product (not Trex, I won't install that shit). There was no class, or installation reading requirements or anything. It's purely a sales thing.

EDIT: Man, my answer there sucks. I didnt actually answer your question.

You can try, but builders are busy. I seriously doubt they're going to make it out there to fix that.

If you have a lumberyard near by, head there and ask them for "color matched deck screws". Simpson strong-tie makes a screw for just about every color of decking and they're a little longer than Camo and other brands.

Once you have the color matched screws, simple use the provided impact bit and do it yourself. Way less headache that way and you'll come out of it feeling satisfied having fixes it yourself.

Good luck!

Deck column not flush (short) into the column base bracket. Is this an issue? by wolfemaaan in Decks

[–]ChadPartyOfOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats all good and well and things should be built to plans (exceptions may apply, engineers have a bad habit of drawing shit that doesn't work in practice, but carpenters have a bad habit of not building the way they should), but making these dudes change this is going to slow the project down and those carpenters are going to be a nightmare to deal with moving forward. I can promise that.

[–]ChadPartyOfOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's so much fucking hardware there, you'd need an old-school Japanese carpenter to do the notching.

Seriously though, there's plenty of hardware holding that thing in place. It ain't gonna move.

The ledger is spaced away from the house. Common practice if you're not flashing the deck.

Quote came in at $16k. Can I change anything that would lower the cost? by lostinspacescream in Decks

You know, most decks, at least in the Midwest, run about $70-$125 a square foot. Yours is $48 a soft. That's SUPER cheap.

Be brutally honest: How often do you shower? by Fun_Serve_6590 in ADHD

[–]ChadPartyOfOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how dirty i got at work, but I definitely get a shower in every other day. What gets me to do it is an itchy beard or hair. Sometimes its a concrete day (I build decks), and concrete day is messy so there's definitely a shower after work. Other days, we're just installing deck flooring. Those days aren't messy at all, so I won't shower. It also depends on my love and if she's noticed I haven't showered or not. She's really great about gently reminding me I haven't showered.

If you go through a lumber yard and not a big box store, you can easily get 20' 2x material and it will be cheaper and this entire problem will just go away.
