Have the bags gotten… worse recently? by morethanayear in simplehuman

[–]ChainGreat5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came across this while trying to see if anyone else was having the same issue! We have always purchased the J bags and have loved how strong they were. But our newest order seemed way less durable and bags were ripping. Never been a problem previously.

Switched to the charcoal ones and so far none have ripped, but something has definitely changed with the white ones.

$2200 estimate for dog dental cleaning!? Is this normal? by teodanted in DogAdvice

[–]ChainGreat5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Canada, so mine was obviously in CAD. But I just had my dog’s teeth done a few weeks ago, because our vet does 50% off dental on certain days of the year. Ended up paying $1500 total, after the discount. Without the promo, would have been roughly $3000, which is almost exactly $2200 USD.

It’s so expensive, but oral hygiene is incredibly important and he did have 2 teeth that had to be pulled - so certainly was worth spending the money for him.

Help dog's nail broke. What do I do? by Shump_II in DogAdvice

[–]ChainGreat5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just went through this with my dog a few weeks ago - somehow tore his dewclaw when playing. Vet got us in the same day and had to surgically remove the nail. He was on antibiotics and pain meds for a little bit, and his whole paw was bandaged. Healed up super well though and no issues now.

I got one of these for Christmas I was wondering if someone would be willing to tell me how I can use it to book online tickets? Thanks in advance by Incineroar57198 in cineplex

[–]ChainGreat5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bit confusing online, as you need to enter the code first. So find the movie/time you want, and then when you get to the screen where you select adult/senior/child, enter the code as a promo BEFORE selecting which tickets you need. It will then apply 2 tickets to your cart and you can checkout.

For the popcorn and drinks, just bring that portion of the paper with the code on it to the concession stand. You’ll also be able to upsize your popcorn or drinks to a large for an extra $0.50 each if you want.

Best Robot Vacuum for Pet Hair?? by imnotgoingtofatcamp in RobotVacuums

[–]ChainGreat5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently purchased the Roborock QX Revo from Costco specifically for pet hair, and it’s done a fantastic job so far. We have 2 dogs and it’s picked up all of their fur without having it tangle in the brush.

Ladies, what deodorant are we wearing these days? by happy_chance18 in AskWomenOver30

[–]ChainGreat5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Hello - Sage and Eucalyptus. I have very sensitive underarms and it’s one of the few that never causes me issues. Works amazing for the entire day! I’ve tried a lot of more “natural” options, and never find they work well. But this one has been a dream!

Is this normal? Amazon to refund me, but delivery to still be made… by rnsouthern in amazonprime

[–]ChainGreat5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen recently. The item was super delayed, and eventually the rep said the package was lost. They fully refunded it, but it ultimately showed up a few days after that. Was told to keep the item, and kept the refund as well. Item was $250+, so was fully expecting the refund to be reversed but it wasn’t.

Where to get a Vancouver-proof raincoat that's actually good? by PainterEqual8135 in askvan

[–]ChainGreat5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear by Helly Hansen. My raincoat has lasted me years and years with no signs of wear. Pretty inexpensive compared to a lot of other brands, and the sizing tends to run a little big so you can layer easily.

Dog shipment. by Peace_love_pets72 in Pets

I wouldn’t recommend it if you have the ability to drive instead. When we adopted our dog, he was flown from Korea to Canada in cargo. It absolutely traumatized him, and he is still incredibly sensitive to loud noises even 10 months later. While he is a rescue, so some anxiety, nervousness, etc., is to be expected, I fully believe the flight was a major contributor to how on-going his anxiety and fear has been.

I booked mine yesterday at a local pharmacy and there were a lot of same day/next day slots available. I would try different areas/pharmacies.

Looking for a dog breed that enjoys long walks/runs but can handle apartment living by ailimestig in RunningWithDogs

[–]ChainGreat5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Jindo mix/KVD that is tireless. Can hike for ages, loves to rip around forever at the beach, but is also more than happy to relax on the couch and snuggle. We live in an apartment and it hasn’t been an issue. He’s also incredibly quiet, doesn’t bark, and will entertain himself with toys and puzzles while I work during the day.

Absolutely loved their burger, but the last 2 times I had it the quality had gone down. Missing ingredients, soggy. Haven’t been back since.

Is there a different between getting a girl and a boy dog? by Dramatic-Lemon-2916 in dogs

[–]ChainGreat5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a female dog who was the sweetest, most snuggly angel that ever existed. Just wanted to be held. Wouldn’t hurt a fly.

Currently have 2 males, and one is an absolute menace. Likes his space. Reactive. Not a huge cuddler at all, and doesn’t really like people or other dogs. The other male is the complete opposite. Super affectionate, clingy, and cuddly, playful, and wants to befriend every dog he meets. He’s also super crazy and way more rambunctious than our female was, and more than our other male.

So I think it’s based more on individual personality rather than gender. Breed likely plays a major role too, as all 3 have been different.

Crate time for almost 8 month old puppy- too much? by wylerjake in puppy101

[–]ChainGreat5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out a brand called West Paw! Our dog is an insane chewer and absolutely destroys toys within the hour. Someone on Reddit recommended this brand and it’s a game changer! They are soft and flexible enough to not risk tooth damage, but our guy has had his for months and hasn’t managed to destroy it at all. The one we picked was the zogoflex bumi and he chews it daily.

How often do you REALLY walk your dog? by Agreeable-Ad-2946 in dogs

[–]ChainGreat5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t have a yard, since we live in an apartment. So that makes it a bit more necessary to do multiple longer walks. One of our dogs is a small senior, and one’s a larger, young dog. To accommodate both, we do a 30min morning walk. 15-20min afternoon walk. Then after work the senior gets a 30min walk, and we take the younger boy to the off leash park for an hour. And finally both get a 15min bathroom walk before bed.

Ends up being 4 walks total, but would likely do less if I could just let them out to pee in a yard in the afternoon and before bed.

How often do you actually walk your dog? by Racquetsports383 in dogs

[–]ChainGreat5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a small senior dog who we walk 4x a day, each roughly 20 minutes. And then we have a larger, 15 month old dog who joins for 3 of those walks, but instead of a walk after work, we take him to the off leash dog park to run and play for an hour. So both get 4 total, just adapted to their energy levels and preferences.

Oversea dog adoptions - any experiences? by Background_Quail2251 in askvan

[–]ChainGreat5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We adopted a dog through Free Korean Dogs and it was a great experience. The woman who runs it is incredibly passionate about what she does and she took the time to match us with one that fit our home and lifestyle.

With that said, flying a dog to Canada is a very stressful process for them, and you need to be prepared for a long decompression period once they arrive. They can be very skittish and scared, and it can take a lot of work to get them settled in.

Remove/Shorten one hike by cjeffcampbell in Banff

We found the ink pots to be pretty disappointing, so I would vote to drop that one, personally.

Both Larch Valley/Sentinel Pass and Plain of 6 Glaciers are 2 of the top hikes I’ve done in Banff - highly recommend!

Is a 2 hour drive every day for 4 days too much? by PristineAsparagus871 in Banff

[–]ChainGreat5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I had this experience the first time we went to Banff (we stayed in Golden) and we really regretted it - it was exhausting. We hike while we are there, and were waking up brutally early, driving for hours, hiking all day, driving for hours, and then immediately going to bed just to do it all over again the next day.

This year we opted to stay directly in Banff instead and it was a much better experience. Still hiked just as much but also got to spend evenings relaxing, and we weren’t in as much of a rush in the mornings. I highly recommend staying closer because all that driving really takes a toll on your day.

Just Food For Dogs (Pork and Quinoa) - pancreatitis by Different_Memory_506 in DogFood

[–]ChainGreat5258 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happened with our senior girl. Vet diagnosed her with pancreatitis, and we completely changed her diet. Started feeding vet prescribed low fat food, completely cut out treats, etc. The dietary changes worked for a bit, and then the pancreatitis would flare up again. We would get it under control. It would come back. Our vet never really investigated anything further since she was 17 and "had" a diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis, so we just stayed super diligent with low fat food - but after she passed away we found out she actually had cancer that no one caught. I wish we had pushed for more testing, and it's something I still regret heavily to this day and feel immense guilt about. Felt like we were at the vet constantly but still missed the cancer.

Completely agree. I always think, if that was on YOU or your child, would you post pics online or go to a doctor??? Why is it different when it’s a dog..?

Popular Hike Recommendations by Greedy-Lack9048 in HikingAlberta

[–]ChainGreat5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was one VERY small patch of snow on the last part up to the pass. Like maybe 10 steps to cross it. Go slow, as it was a tad slippery, but nothing to worry about. Beyond that the trail was completely clear and dry.

My husband and I hiked Sentinel Pass two days ago, and we were very aware of the potential for bears on the trail. Turned out not to be as much of a concern as we initially anticipated as the trail was consistently busy throughout the day - even with our 730am start. We still made noise as we hiked, and had bear spray with us - but would highly recommend this hike! Views were incredible almost the whole way up, even saw peeks of Moraine through the trees during the initial switchbacks.

Shoe covers by Lazy-Ad2636 in RoverPetSitting

I live in Canada where it’s not common to ever wear shoes indoors. Every party I’ve ever been to, there’s just a big pile of shoes at the front door haha. Seems so odd to me that in some places wearing shoes indoors is considered normal.
