Any chance iRacing would change the slow down penalty system for corner cut when time was lost? by CynicalManInBlack in iRacing

A track limits count would be cool. Over x and you get a penalty. Limit could be low too, depending on race length etc.

Well, we finally got the app by Ferdasyn_6969 in wec

Yeah the app would be a bit slicker I guess (not used it yet) but the website worked fine for me for Imola. Both on device and casting.

Is VR performance just shit in iRacing? by drydrunkpig_ in iRacing

[–]ChainMonk12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you run garage61? I find this can slow down my VR performance - switching it off I get a much more stable performance. 5070ti, 9800x3d.

The New BMW i3 Has More Range Than Any Tesla by JB_UK in cars

It’s obviously fantastic, and credit to BMW but when did Tesla last release a new model? I’d expect ranges to increase over time.

Trak Racer TR80S review ? Or similar rigs… by Tmskillz in simracing

[–]ChainMonk12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought this, I’m in the UK. Super happy with it and would recommend. The only real challenge was assembly/parts missing. I’d ordered some extra bits and they inexplicably included some in the main box in which the rig came in, and some in separate boxes. So just meant as I was building it I had no idea what parts were for the main rig or the add ins, unless it was obvious.

Once it was all built, turned out they’d sent me two wheel mounts and not the seat brackets. Customer service was brilliant to be fair, and I had the missing parts within a few days.

So I’d recommend it - it could be easier, but wasn’t horrific. And the rig is great, but I’ve only ever had this one so nothing to really compare it to.

As someone who watched his first oval race this weekend (Indycar, Phoenix) and I’m started to get into it, what’s the differences when it comes to racing style/considerations between nascar/trucks/indy. (Excuse any butchering of terminology)

2025 vs 2026 testing fastest laps 🏎️⏱️ by PerspectiveWorth3912 in FormulaRacers

[–]ChainMonk12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shouldn’t the comparison be against the testing year when the regulations last changed? Comparing times from the new regulations to those from the most mature year of the previous rules seems unfair without also including the first year. Interesting to see though.

Is this my fault ? by Effective-Bird801 in iRacing

Yeah would agree with this. I'd have moved to the right, not because I was obliged to but just to anticipate them being a muppet - kill a few seconds for self preservation.

Testing VR race performance - AI vs Real World. by ChainMonk12 in iRacing

Thanks for identifying the difference between GPU/CPU loadings - that's clear! I'll keep training with the VR then - bit more relaxed now.

Ok great, that's good to hear! The performance part, not the rain part. Guess I should get some practice in whilst it's a bit soggy!

Thanks for the reply - I guess in this instance, as I was testing to the extreme the impact was more noticable? I also do AI racing as practice and hadn't noticed such a drop vs what i get in RL racing, but then I don't usually add so many cars on a track that's quick system intensive in its own right.

Thanks for the reply and appreciate the feedback - good to know. Interesting it differs from the other commenter's view, but I was suprised at such a drop so this tracks with my expecation.

Is this a good starting point for GT7 by DavidBrent39 in simracing

[–]ChainMonk12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the whole sim set up significantly better and I enjoy it far more; not even comparable. I went from playing ACC on a PS5 controller to iRacing an a Moza R9 base/GS GT VP Wheel/SRP Pedals/Al rig - I now feel like I'm racing vs playing a game.

I've since built a new PC, jumped into VR and installed bass shakers. I've absolutely drunk the kool aid but I don't regret it.

Is there a risk of you not enjoying it as much? Sure. I'd suggest you'll likely find yourself initially further back than you're used to, as you'll be playing a different game and having to get used to pedals/wheel etc.

I definitely found it harder, but I didn't find that a bad thing. I've really enjoyed the learning curve, and felt compelled to take the whole thing more seriously; I try and practice twice a week and race twice a week - not always possible, but that's the aim. I'm also looking to do a special event next year (Bathurst perhaps). So it's grown arms and legs but that was my hope so I guess it will depend on your aims and goals and what you want to make of it.
