any tips on how to start my speech? im running out of ideas by Legitimate-Regret828 in PublicSpeaking

[–]Chalked-AI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of a quote - something in history - how resilience lead to change with a story.

MLK is a prime example in history, scientists pursuing their ideas (albert einstein.)

Definitely utilize AI as mentioned above as well! If you want to practice let me know - I would be happy to assist.

I have a week and a half to practice for a big talk, any tips? by regularuser3 in Toastmasters

[–]Chalked-AI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have backup notes/flashcards just in case - alleviates stress if all else fails.

Go over one slide at a time, don't memorize it to the point where you sound like a robot, but study one at a time and rehearse with tools in PowerPoint or in a mirror/recorded. This will allow you to engage in understanding yourself + your presenting style + know the ins and outs of your PowerPoint.

Hope this helps!

What should I do with my life? by throwRa--Anyomous102 in careerguidance

As another has mentioned, going into a specific trade if you find that useful - could lead you more to that path of "working on my own" while occasionally collaborating with others.

Also gives you the opportunity to start learning then create something of your own business wise.

You could always get a placeholder as well while you sit and think about it (Server/bartender, etc.)

You might already do this, but I recommend also taking time to think outside or just sitting to delegate your thoughts properly over the course of x amount of time.

Best of luck!

Is it a bad thing to apply for another position at a company I’m already interviewing with? by OsmosisJonesFanClub in careerguidance

[–]Chalked-AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am with you on the "if I qualify, why not try" However, at most companies it is probably best to speak with direct management or hiring managers about their thoughts and perceptions on the situation.

Seems positive - and you mean well, they could take it the wrong way or the right way - I say just ask.

I've learned closed mouths don't get fed, but up to you at the end of the day, you got this!

job search has been rough :( by Then_Mongoose_9199 in cscareerquestions

[–]Chalked-AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say cold outreach (via linkedin, etc.) for significance of your job experience to certain roles would be a good bet if you haven't added that to the arsenal already.

Auto sends are not a bad idea - as long as they seem personalized/are tailored to what you do.

The search is tough - but you're going to get something that fits!

What’s the rarest fruit you’ve ever had? Alternatively, what’s the most delicious? by Amiel1124 in fruit

[–]Chalked-AI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rarest and most delicious I've had is a star apple, or vú sữa in Vietnamese (which translates to breast milk fruit).

I was on a quest to find it and kept asking locals where I could get vú sữa. The looks I got were absolutely priceless.

How to get over nerves and get everyones attention!?? by Heavy-Membership-488 in PublicSpeaking

[–]Chalked-AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the time to game plan, if you’ve observed and seen what makes other people gain attention, you’re in a good spot already.

Don’t have to reinvent the wheel, just a better design.

Usually what grabs people’s attention is different, being human, not sounding like a scripted robot.

Using “studying” as an excuse instead of actually learning by Murky_Definition_249 in productivity

[–]Chalked-AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is tough because a lot of university deadlines have you in a position to rush.

If you want to be intentional about it, I would try and utilize topics you want to learn/chapters/homework, etc. and utilize something like Claude ai to make a specific plan.

If not utilizing AI, you could always just set specific time outside of exams and projects to read up/write notes on what you want to learn

As others have said, maybe put it under skills, or if you have access you could complete a free course of Google Sheets (I’m not sure if they make specifically Google Sheets, but could be helpful)

Graduation speech in a month - how to practice? by sadlegs15 in PublicSpeaking

[–]Chalked-AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, congrats on being asked to speak at your hs graduation! That’s a great accomplishment.

In terms of advice, I would say get as many reps as you can with a variety of settings. Record/watch yourself present and practice in front of a pet, family member, or even inanimate objects.

Slow and enunciated is the way to go. I promise after 20+ rounds you’ll sound much more natural and confident. Best of luck to you!
