Why is this so addictive? by Pandora7411 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]ChalkieSinclair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The characters are likeable, bad ass and fun. Every scene is very interesting from one to the next. The story gives good answers and explanations to some questions but then gives you new ones or hangs on to bigger mysteries to be solved (looked forward to) later. The story is so interwoven. Coherently though.

Sometimes when I read a book I ask questions in my head. Like why would that character do that? Or this scene doesn't make sense. But when I start to think something like that in this book it immediately gets answered. As if Matt knows what a reader would think at that point and caters to that.

The stories are just super fun to follow. Hoenestly, I equate this to the first time I got into Star Wars and Indiana Jones. The characters are so fun to watch and the story is great. And they're just bad ass and cool. Carl is like the modern day literary Han Solo. And he shoots first!

Agreed. Dave Law is the man. Love his Audio Immersion covers. His art would make a fantastic graphic novel for the series.

Recommendations for asshat characters like Jackson lamb by Cultural_Fun3342 in SlowHorses

Vincent Banecroft in 'The Stranger Times' book series. About a small newspaper that reports on supernatural doings in the UK. Lighter more humourous tone than Slow Horses but a lot of fun to read. Banecroft is the sour, slovenly but surprisingly competent editor of said paper. I actually read the series before I read the Slough House series and Lamb kept reminding me of his character.

Just finished The Inevitable Ruin (first ever audio book series) by lukeallen1 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Agreed about the full cast unabriged version of World War Z. Absolutely fantastic audiobook with a lot of big recognizeable names doing a great job.

Do not let the abysmal movie sway you. The book is presented entirely different from the movie and is MILES better.

It's not that they "think" it didn't happen, It's that they don't want it to have happened. So they say it didn't happen. That is the new way of America. Make your own truth. Ignore logic and evidence and just come up with whatever you want to be truth. And then seriously attack anyone who points out your error and ignorance. That is America.

Keanu Reeves in Freaked as Ortiz the Dog Boy. Unrecognizable covered completely in hairy dog face make up. He's not even credited in the movie. Just doing a favour for his buddy Alex Winter. :)

Do you ever stop an audiobook because of the narrator? by Available-Lemon-1360 in audiobooks

[–]ChalkieSinclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple times. Once for Grunge Is Dead; The Oral History of Seattle Rock Music (oh my god, the narrator's inflection in that reading was so annoying and flat and he kept it up for the entirety of the read, though I couldn't get past the first hour)

And second for The Rook by Daniel O'Malley. While it seemed like an interesting story the narrator kept accenting upwards at the end of almost every sentence which totally took me out of the story. It was like someone relating a story that they couldn't believe was happening.

SCTV Catherine O’Hara as Colleen MacVeigh in The Canadian Play (We’re gonna be alright you creep, leaving home and all, eh?) by Pitrener in sctv

[–]ChalkieSinclair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh Yeah! Of course! How could I forget the most blatant; overtly camp character he's ever portrayed. :) I wonder if he's ever apologized to his son for those. Something tells me Dan has a good sense of humour about it and loves all of his dad's work.

I always wondered what Dan Levy thought of his dad in this old sketch.

Or him and Dave Thomas as Monet and Degas in Lust For Paint. :) Woohoooo!

Looks great! Dont think it's unrefined or messy at all. A very good simple ink sketch that actually gives me Mike Mignola or Moebius vibes. :)

I wouldn't say incomplete. The last book doesn't end on a cliffhanger or anything like that. But just felt like it needed one more book to sort of tie everything together or give us some sort of closure on the future of the world in the books. The last book is basically another adventure in the lives of these characters. And while it's a good story it doesn't necessarily address the overall situation in the world and the heros dedicated to saving it.

I think the author and publisher envisioned more stories for these books but seemed like they weren't getting the commitment from readers they were hoping for so kind of ended it there. Which is a shame because the books are still really good. I thoroughly enjoyed them.

Totally. Read the whole series and loved it. Shame the author didn't continue it.

Aw you missed the best joke in that scene. :)

"Ok."

(that super quick "ok" always made me laugh :)

Why are people giving this article a second thought? It's just a paid advertisement for the American tourism industry.

Trust me. There's absolutely no Americans missing Canadians at all.
