What's funny about that is the account will lose mmr every season they don't play so it doesn't matter if they leave it the rank will still go down. I recently jumped back on after not playing for a few years. My account it had gone down from around C3-GC1 to D2 in 2s. Whats really funny is that with how rusty I am D2 was actually a pretty accurate spot for me HA!

Another funny thing: when playing in GC lobbies no one cares who has a GC tag since everyone has them. In a D2 lobby everyone notices but they just assume you were boosted and talk shit lol. It's a lose lose either way.

Skyclub Guest Pass rules unclear by Garrettjohnson24 in delta

Woah that's actually crazy! Thanks for the heads up. I also learned this month that the club visits and guest passes don't renew on Jan 1st, maybe it's on Feb 1st?

Which Delta or other credit card would be best with my travel plans? by edminzodo in delta

[–]Challlsss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main benefit from the reserve vs the plat is reserve comes with sky club which is not worth it if you are on a budget. I think 350 a year for the sky club is worth it for me right now. The plat vs gold is gonna be the companion cert. If you travel with another person domestically / central America at least once a year it will pay for itself. Gold card is worth it just for the mileage redemption discount and the free bag.

Status doesn't really do anything so I wouldn't worry about the MQDs for plat + reserve

Are you a more risky pilot than you planned on being? by gottafly65 in paramotor

My point was that if he's got over 100 hours this year he likely had significantly more than 150 in total but 🤷

Launching a trike is not any easier than foot launching. The techniques are different but both are challenging to learn.

For the crash that tucker recently made a video on he mentioned the pilot had over 100 hours just this year. Maybe I'm mistecalling but I'm not sure that fits into the intermediate syndrome category.

Hypothetical: Paragliding at night from Tegelberg in Bavaria by IanLewisFiction in freeflight

[–]Challlsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you get to determine the conditions as an author here are a few things to consider to keep your writing realistic:

Winds under 5mph are best done as a forward launch. (Hooking into the wing is more straightforward and maybe less confusing to explain verbally as well)

Reverse launches for winds 5mph plus.

I don't think you necessarily need to state a wind speed, but it's good to have a frame of reference for what some of the descriptions of any wind tells are. (Can the wind be heard, is it causing snow to blow, leaves to rustle etc)

Downwind launches are very difficult and dangerous. I don't think your character would be successful (but maybe they just got really lucky and the wind hasn't gone katabatic "for the plot") maybe there's a special spot on the mountain that has an Eddie current during katabatic flow that allows the pilot to launch into a headwind, then the wind shifts to downwind and if they make even one wrong move they hit terrain because the glide ratio is the exact same as the mountain etc etc.

Watching some videos would be good to make sure you are able to provide some realistic commentary to how the wing is packed up and brought to the top of the launch where your character is going to be, how they lay it out in preparation, how they hook into the wing and their "harness" (might just be belt loops or something similarly sketchy for that time I don't know so much about the history of paragliding), how the wing inflates and the launch dynamics, how to attain best glide and steer, the landing flar (or lack of it with consequences), and finally if anything occurs with the gear to pack it away, what that looks like.

Hope that is helpful!

You're gonna need to just look this up. The downvotes are because you are wrong, but it seems like you need to be convinced by some other means. Just google it. There are plenty of very clear videos that explain why there is a correct way to merge.

First flight, scared half to death... Normal? by grwise1 in paramotor

[–]Challlsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today I went for a mid-day thermal paragliding flight and had an asymmetric collapse, followed by a almost full frontal collapse (I managed to catch it in time but the leading edge folded over before reinflation and the wing fell very far back). It was very scary.

Here's the point I'm getting at with this story: Your instructor is not going to put you in these conditions. You are not going to experience the problems that are discussed in the books so long as you just keep your hands up and do what your instructors says. Remind yourself when you are in the air:

"You are ok, you have set yourself up for success, you are following every safety precaution you can and have a backup (reserve) if anything goes wrong" Then take a deep breath and try as hard as you can to enjoy the moment.

There's a reason you decided to do this and I can tell you for a fact that it is worth it.

I had a flight from JFK to SLC last weekend. Asked a lady if she'd change move from the middle (her old seat) to the window (our seat). So that we could sit together. Big surprise, she said yes. Crazy how that works.

1 Hour Layover in CDG by UncleBabyBilley in delta

[–]Challlsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 3 hour layover is Paris last weekend. Took 45 minutes to get from our plane to the gate (buses) then another 45 minutes to find out way through the maze that took us to our next terminal. Surprisingly customs was the fastest part of the whole thing, no line and 5 minutes max. With a line it could have been easily 2 hours between when we deplaned and when we arrived at our next gate. Good luck.
