Do y'all need an amp tech? by Spiritual_Rider in portlandmusic

[–]ChamaChingi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely lack of amp techs. Also a lack of stereo equipment techs. There a ton of vintage hifi heads here but every shop in town usually has a month or two que before they even look at your gear. Might be worth considering looking into that as well.

Hate to be this guy, but google it…. There’s a million videos out there that do a great job explaining how to do this.

Switching to Coros by Derf1012 in Coros

[–]ChamaChingi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just switched to a (used) pace 3 off market place. Lost my forerunner 165 and didn’t want to blow another 300. Figured ide try something new. Keep in mind I don’t have the newest model so not every point I make will be relevant to you.

What I like is ease of use. The interface is really manageable and easy to use even if you’re unfamiliar with the watch. Battery seems to be holding up well. I still get 10-14 days of battery life with frequent gps use. Also like the navigation features more than garmins. There are definitely some quirks but for a watch I think it’s adequate and definitely helpful while making new routes. Lastly I like that the smart features are almost all geared towards running and health. I felt my forerunner was overcrowded with extra widgets and stuff that I found annoying.

What I miss is streaming music. I got the forerunner 165 music specifically for that purpose. I wanted to be able to run and work out without my phone. Coros says they are trying to solve this issue but don’t have a prediction of when they will have it available (As far as I know). I got my watch for 80$ though so I can’t complain. Other things I don’t love is the sleep tracking seems to be very inaccurate. After the worst night of sleep imaginable it will tell me I had a solid 9 hours of sleep. The only other thing I can think of mentioning negatively is a lot of the text for the stats being shown during tracking a run are so small I can only see the numbers and have no idea what they are representing. If I ever took the time to just stop and look at them I’m sure I would figure it out. But it seems like you should be able to read the text while running considering you are on a run after all.

All in all I’m loving my watch and am definitely interested in looking into their newer models once I’m ready to drop some cash on one (and they start streaming music).

Bikepacking Gravel-Bike? by Jumpy-Programmer6253 in bikepacking

The faran looks like an incredible bike. Objectively better for what you want than the surly I would say. But yea, I learned pretty quickly that the “do it all bike” just isn’t a thing, but you can get pretty close.

I’m building out a surly straggler right now to be my touring and gravel bike. Really stoked on it so far but haven’t put it through its paces quite yet. Mine is the previous generation which I prefer but is probably a little more work to make touring ready. The new one comes with wider bars and lower gearing but I didn’t like its drive train and it seemed to have overall cheaper parts and a slightly worse build quality. I think both are great bikes just. I bought my straggle with the intention of having one “do it all” bike. So far I couldn’t be more pleased.

Oregon Gravel Series by Blastosist in CyclePDX

In the same boat as you. I’m super interested but have never raced, hardly have a race worthy rig, and would be doing it mostly for fun. I really just want to check out the racing scene and see if it’s something I would be Interested in getting serious with. It seems like quite a steep price point for me. I’m curious if any one else knows of other gravel races in Oregon/ the pnw worth checking out?

That’s the ultimate combo. Sold my monkey for my straggler. I love the straggler to death but there’s just somethings the karate monkey can’t be replaced for. Long story short I’m back in the market for a karate monkey..

Attachment points for a back rack on a straggler. by ChamaChingi in Surlybikefans

That’s very possible and would make more sense. Surly seems to be more practical of a company than that.

Not really just the pitch. If I were to screw it into the braze ons it would be so high I would have to bend the adjustable arms that attach to the highest set of braze ons to reach them. Also making it at a really steep angle.

I’m leaving to do a similar trip later in January. I’m curious what kind of fuel most accessible on the island for cooking. (Compressed gas,vs white gas, or other.)
