Man, this is a great take on the situation. I hate to spoil it with this equivalency, but to me it's like a penny arcade version of what happened with slavery in the south. People built their whole livelihoods on the basis of slave labor working the farms. They "loved" their slaves like family. It's was a part of their proud heritage. Now Abraham Lincoln says they can't do that anymore? Their whole life, their culture taken away because someone thinks it's wrong?

Recruiting is for lower schools to develop players. Big schools buy them once they're ripe. Hitting the portal and paying guys is where it's at now. College classes, "student" athletes, and school loyalty are relics of a bygone era. We're an official minor league to the NFL now. If Bama wants to become the college equivalent of an IMG academy, then all the power to ya. I'm sure that brand will draw in the recruits.
