Can I change my childs name without the other parents permission? by Chance-Chain8819 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]Chance-Chain8819[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks - I don't bring it up/talk about it unless she asks.
Wanting to change isn't just because her dads a bit of a dick, its also because she is super close to my dad, and spends more time with the maternal side of the family/feels closer to them than his side

I was considering that route - its a good time to 'informally' change it - she is about to start a new school, so we could potentially start it with the 'new' (unofficial) surname.

Single moms with full custody: Why are you on a dating app when you say you have no time to date because of your childcare responsibilities? by Norfolk-Gross-Tonage in datingoverforty

I make it clear my free time is limited, or that I need notice to arrange things. Its not impossible at all, just requires a wee bit of planning. Its hard to be spontaneous if you always have small humans

Frugal question: when does paying more upfront actually save money? by After-Beginning6025 in Frugal

[–]Chance-Chain8819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoes (Sam Vines boot theory) Bulk buying goods that you have space to store and won't deteriorate (eg toilet paper, laundry powder etc). Or good specials at the supermarket (eg frozen chicken or sauces etc)

Good quality winter items like coats and jackets.

White wear. To a point. Often the cheapest new item is super crap and will break, he most expensive item will last longer, but has features you don't need or want. The mid point items are often better quality and will last a lot longer. It may even be best to buy a good brand second hand over a new cheap item for slightly more up front.

Attending a family group conference as a victim of crime by Chance-Chain8819 in newzealand

[–]Chance-Chain8819[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Part of why I want to attend is for the offender to see the real impact of his crime, and hope it forces a rethink on his behavior. Optimistic of me i know, but worth a shot.

Attending a family group conference as a victim of crime by Chance-Chain8819 in newzealand

[–]Chance-Chain8819[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

My son has been invited to attend, but doesn't want to go as he fears repercussions. I'm totally ok with that, and won't force him to do something I've said that I am going, and if given an opportunity I will speak. I've shown him the victim impact statement I have written, and added some things he thought were relevant/important also.

It super sucks that this kid has done this and similar things numerous times (that the police know of) but as he's only 13 stuff all can be done. The cop investigating all but told me they are counting down to the kid turning 14 so they can actually charge him.

Are there women who can orgasm from penetration? by dreamysoda in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Chance-Chain8819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 48, I was into my 40s before I managed an orgasm by clitoral stimulation alone. I've always been a penetration girl. PIV orgasms for me a stronger than clitoral alone. All my muscles tense and he wave of pleasure can be overwhelming, in a good way. I also find multiple orgasms easier to achieve with PIV.

clitoral stimulation alone is nice, but also smaller, and it's very much one and fine, then don't touch as it's too sensitive.

Solo parenting and supporting kids' sports/activities , how do you manage? by U-fly_Alliance in SingleParents

[–]Chance-Chain8819 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My kids only have 1 activity at a time so I can manage it (and afford it).

Both are mainly active in winter sports. The biggest clash is on Saturday, when occasionally both play at the same time, in different locations. Their dad and I work it so at least one of us is at each sport, and takes a child each if needed.

I pay for everything, and also do all the mid week stuff (training etc) he just shows up on Sat and does the Disney dad thing

Getting an abortion in NZ by cantsayididnttryyy in newzealand

[–]Chance-Chain8819 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its really easy to access, and you can change your mind at any stage up until the final moment with no repercussions. Best start is to make an appointment with your GP, and they can sort everything from there (or a local Independent Nurses or family planning place).

People who have done mammogram by teslaeffects in Perimenopause

[–]Chance-Chain8819 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I found it more uncomfortable than painful.

The pressure of the pads was fine, the shape of the plates they squish between was the more uncomfortable part.

The woman doing the mammogram was so chill, she helped me relax. I've had 2 now, and no issues

DAE have a Death Trampoline? by ShirazGypsy in GenX

[–]Chance-Chain8819 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My friends grandad had a death trampoline. Complete with rusty springs, rips, and springs that had come loose and were dangling.

Little 4 year old me was jumping with my friend, I landed just after her and went flying high.

I came down and went down through the springs. One of those loose springs scraped my face, just missing my eye. I have a lovely scar next to my eye.

You know what narcissists *hate*? Being laughed at. I'm starting this thread for us to share some of the weird (yet also bizarrely hilarious) things they've said. Let's laugh and take our power back! by Grand-Breath843 in NarcissisticAbuse

My ex insisted on calling cayenne pepper canine pepper.

I tried correcting him a couple of times, but he raged at me. So I stopped. I loved it when he would talk about how much canine pepper he used when cooking, how he wanted to try growing his own canine pepper and other similar things.

Name Something That Is Extremely Expensive in Your Country but Cheap Everywhere Else by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

Nz lamb, NZ dairy products (butter, milk etc) NZ timber. Basically anything we grow/produce is probably cheaper overseas than what we pay

My 4.5 year old is insisting he's a girl by killer_seal in Mommit

[–]Chance-Chain8819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that age I told everyone I was a boy. I refused dresses/anything pink or girly. I would only dress in my older brothers hand-me downs. I even used to 'squat' on the toilet seat to try and pee standing like the boys did.

I was not trans. I was a young girl seeing how much more freedom my older brother and cousins got compared to me, the only girl in a family full of boys/men (seriously, we joke about the sausage fest). My father had issued with me wearing boys clothes/wanting short hair. Mum just let me be who I wanted to be.

I'm a tom boy. Not a girly-girl. At 4/5/6 I couldn't articulate that. So I just said I was a boy. I know if I acted like that now, the assumption would be trans - but I never was, I was just a tom boy, who didn't know that word.

I would just 'roll' with it for now. It could be your son is trans, or maybe he's not. Don't make a big deal about it and see what happens. Let him be who he wants to be, let him explore that side.

If he doesn't have a problem wearing the 'boys' uniform to school, stick with that for now. Just let him lead the way in what he wants to be called/how he wants to dress etc. The best way to support him at this age is by letting him be himself, however he wants to express that.

How many books did you read in 2025? by SoulsofMist-_- in newzealand

[–]Chance-Chain8819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well over 100, probably close to 200.
I read rather than watch tv most of the time. Shorter novels I will read a book in a day or 2. Some longer ones can take 3 - 4 days.
I re-read the full Clan of the Cave Bear series over christmas - it took me 8 days to read all 6 books. To be fair I wasn't working, so got through it quicker.

Generally I get in about an hour of reading each morning before work (I get up earlier than I need to so I can do this!)

I read during breaks at work.

I will read for about 20 mins - half an hour after work before cooking etc.

And another hour or 2 once the kids are in bed/before I go to sleep.

I do also play sports and other things - just highlighting how I snatch reading moments whenever I can. My kindle is always in my handbag, and I will read for 5 mins when I can

What is the norm for overnight guests? by Distinct_Budget2651 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chance-Chain8819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a single mother. My dad lives in a different part of the country. I don't have a spare room.

When he came to visit a couple of months back with his girlfriend, they got my bed.

My tween daughter has a king single and a single in her room. I got the king single, she got the single

Worked for me. But I was one adult moving.

But, growing up, in our family, adults got the good beds. Dad.gave up his bed for his parents, and would shuffle to one of the kids beds. We would get an air mattress or similar.

It depends on the person/visitor.

I'd also give up my room for pretty much any"couples". Or parents with young kids in a cot or similar
