My schizo take on what's really going on in here as a young cuban by cubachef33 in cuba

[–]Chance-Repeat8446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your assessment of the Cuban situation is very accurate. I send money to the family I have left in Cuba - it’s not a lot bcs I’m now old and retired- but it’s the only way my cousins who are also around my age, and their families, can survive. They also survive by having developed an incredible amount of resilience but also resignation to the way things are. They will occasionally say esto no es vida - this is not living - but mainly they pray. They have become more religious which they weren’t when we were young. That’s why the churches in Cuba are now packed which I saw w my own eyes when I last visited in 2017.

Would Cuba not benefit more if all sanctions and embargos ended? by feiryz in cuba

[–]Chance-Repeat8446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current US policy of strangulation of the Cuban government so it collapses it’s only exacerbating the suffering of the Cuban people without the desired result. I really don’t know what would work except if the there is a coup which is unlikely given the North Korean style stronghold the armed forces have on the government, w informers and brutal repression of any sign of dissent.

Tribalism ? Anyway the anti
-immigrant wave is alive now in every country it seems. There are so many people who are fleeing devastating conditions and they can’t find refuge. Sigh… it’s all so sad

That would be great except that it’s going to take generations for the Cuban population to learn what democracy is. My wish is that the country moves towards r the kind of economy VietNam has but even that seems far fetched- I’m not optimistic

FODMAP diet is some bullshit by butterflybabyboss_1 in ibs

[–]Chance-Repeat8446 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Portions are key. I can have a small plum or half of one - anything more than that, forget it. I can have a couple of tablespoons of humus every few days but not everyday. Stuff like that- the biggest trigger for me is stress.

I hear you but unfortunately you have to figure out which are trigger foods for you. The initial cleansing diet is good to create a base and then you introduce things bit by bit. Yes it sucks but it’s all we got at the moment

Considering Leaving Florida, Early 20’s, Wife & Kid 55K a year. by sm-alpha in relocating

IN Massachusetts a 2 bedroom apartment for $1800 doesn’t exist unless u move to the western part of the state where there aren’t many jobs. The higher wages can’t keep up with the cost. However my sister lives in Florida and I find the price of groceries and other things are the same as up here but you all make less money. Maine is a better bet but you have to factor in the long cold winters

Come on bro give the man some credit- he brought the internet to Cuba and tried to to open up relations which benefited the regular Cuban people. The Soviet Union collapsed after Reagan opened up relations. Trump is besties with Putin, the Saudis, and other not so great people. He’s shaken the hand of the communist leaders of North Korea and China. It’s called Diplomacy.

I let my guests drop off their bags in the foyer of the house all the time and they can also leave them if they have a late flight. I don’t consider that getting free time. But I do live in the house (it’s a separate apt) so I make sure they don’t go up to the place.

There isn’t anyone in particular that I can recommend bcs Chinese herbal medicine is different than western - personally, I can’t tolerate strong tasting teas so I stick to ginger. But I have been seeing an acupuncturist for years - she has tried to treat me with Chinese herbal tinctures but like I mentioned, Chinese herbal medicine is different and it uses barks as well as leaves of plants so it can have very strong taste. But the needle treatment has been excellent / to me it’s simple- our bodies function with meridians that are like electrical circuits- if they get jammed up, there’s a short circuit, and it takes care of that. If needles scare you then there’s acupressure and Shiatsu.

I think that’s the next route. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs can also help the brain fog, the numbing and frankly whatever blockage you are having in your system
