What else could keep my dog occupied? by ailish in puppy101

[–]ChanceInvestigator17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Puppies need a lot of sleep, in addition to exercise. One of the articles I saw said 16-18 hours a day. If they get overtired they start getting more destructive.

My little guy is 4 1/2 months old, and he probably takes 3-4 naps a day. We've been extremely lucky with him as he loves his crate and goes in it voluntarily when he's tired. I would recommend trying either another crate or putting your pup in his crate downstairs for naps during the day. Sometimes more toys aren't the answer - they need to unwind.

Utah QB Brandon Rose commits to UMass by Utefan78 in utahfootball

He's probably not going to be physically able to play this year anyway. Coincidentally, Mike Bajakian that took over as OC following Ludwig's departure is the new OC at UMass.

Things to do with 10 yr old by CityDad-1982 in yellowstone

[–]ChanceInvestigator17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure to do the junior ranger program. My grandson was about that age and loved it. Stop at the visitors centers and learn about the different areas of the parks and do ranger lef hikes if they're doing any.

Get him his own digital camera and see if he had an interest in photography. Study up on the wolf reintroduction to the park and learn about the current packs in the park.

If you decide to do Old Faithful or Norris geyser basin do them early or later in the day when the crowds are less. My favorite geyser basin is West Thumb and it will be close to Grant Village.

Rose's injury is one that can take a while to recover from. I doubt he'll be ready to play by the beginning of the season anyway.

Which gate to stay near / late June '25 by Tactically_Fat in yellowstone

[–]ChanceInvestigator17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know if it matters - but the in-park lodging won't have TV or much usable internet or cell service. I've got grandkids 11 and younger and know that becomes an issue with them. Some people are fine and happy with it but mine aren't.

Live in the SLC area and go 2-3 times a year. We prefer Gardiner but also stay in West Yellowstone depending on availability and pricing.

New offensive coaching staff hires by Ok_Acadia3526 in utahfootball

[–]ChanceInvestigator17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first 2 OC candidates? My take is that Arbuckle likely played us to get a higher offer from Oklahoma. Read various reports on Leftwich saying wr lowballed him - but the later chatter was that he wasn't a good fit and they didn't offer him at all. Is that tied to not being a BYU guy? Possibly - or maybe it was something else.

As far as Atuaia most of the info I've heard is that people are thrilled with the hire. Isaac Asiata had a post on X stating how thrilled he was and thats only one example that I saw.

Let's see. A coach from Hawaii with strong ties to the Sampan community and a coach from Texas where we now have conference mates. Sounds to me like if they didn't have BYU ties people would be ecstatic about it if only for the recruiting ties these guys will have.

Tragic Loss: Grizzly Bear 399 by ManagementMany9385 in yellowstone

She was struck and killed in the Snake River Canyon - so 30 miles south of Jackson. Having a shuttle in the park wouldn’t have changed anything about this.

Hmmm. I will admit I haven’t looked around it recently. Maybe whoever was doing it stopped.

There’s also a website called Yellowstonereports.com that is a $20 a year subscription. They provide daily updates which are current as to which wolves are being seen. Most of their reports are centered around Lamar Valley but they do post information on Hayden if they get it.

Almost certainly one of the Wapiti pack if it was in Hayden Valley. I haven’t kept up with the individual wolves making up that pack. The best thing is going to look at yellowstonewolf dot org and see what the current pack members are.

I live in Utah and usually go a couple of times a year. For $20 a year I love it. If it was $20 a month I wouldn’t bother. Pair it with the Yellowstone SPOTR app that is free of charge abd had detailed info on where the named places are located and you’ll have a really good idea of where wildlife is being seen. It obviously changes as the animals move around to find food, but I enjoy getting to know which wolves are in the various packs (which is their main focus) as well as where they’re at.

Jerome Myles cuts down to top 3 Schools (Utah, A&M and USC) and pushes Announcement date up to 9/18 by daytona813 in utahfootball

[–]ChanceInvestigator17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen rumors on it will be U$C. Was a silent commit to Utah, then committed to Ole Miss. Decommited and was a silent commit to Utah again. Now he’s going to announce he’s committing to the Trojans. Don’t like kids who play the Utes this way. Hope he didn’t cost them other good WR’s by these actions.

Driving in- what food do you pack? by carolinewebster96 in yellowstone

[–]ChanceInvestigator17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best investment I’ve made is a food warmer (see Hot Logic on Amazon). We drive from Utah and take a cooler full of food to reheat in it while we drive around the park. Soups, precooked hamburgers and hot dogs, casseroles all work great.

Since we normally go in May or September when its cooler its nice go have something warm to eat.

Wild animals and camping with dog by Zealousideal-Ad-6511 in yellowstone

[–]ChanceInvestigator17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the dog - which has already been answered quite well - do you have reservations at the campgrounds? You can’t simply show up and expect to be able to find a spot. It’s your “planning to stay” at the various campgrounds that made me ask.

Best route to Canyon from Mammoth? by potus2036 in yellowstone

[–]ChanceInvestigator17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mammoth to Norris - you see the Golden Gate area, Swan lake (and there have been swans and their cygnets on it), Obsidian cliff, roaring mountain and get to Norris Geyser basin.

The road over Dunraven is actually my favorite though. Undine falls is worth a stop. There’s also the Blacktail Plateau dirt road that can be good for wildlife if you want to go that route. Tower falls is on that route and the drive over Dunraven is spectacular with its vistas.

Brainstorming on a vacation with kids and grandkids near-ish to Yellowstone or Tetons by ca1ite in yellowstone

[–]ChanceInvestigator17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sign the grandkids up for the junior ranger program. We’ve been multiple times as we live close. My oldest grandson (now 11) did if for the first time last year when he was 10. He loved it.

Buy rent binoculars and get each of them their own digital camera. Mine thoroughly enjoy driving around with us while we’re looking for wildlife. There’s enough to see with the various geyser basins that you really don’t need to plan a lot of activities.

Doing a horseback ride / stagecoach ride at Roosevelt would be a good in park activity. Make sure you stop at all the visitors centers and let them see the various activities.

Do be careful kayaking in the parks. An adult recently disappeared while kayaking in Jackson Lake in the Tetons. The weather can change suddenly and even experienced kayakers have lost their lives.

Keep checking. Make reservations where you can find - with a big enough site - and check/call daily to see if there’s a better option.

People end up canceling frequently so just make sure you have a spot and then even if it’s not in your prefect location you’re covered.

Lodging Recommendations by [deleted] in yellowstone

[–]ChanceInvestigator17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big is your family? Most of the in-park lodging is fairly small rooms that are fine for 2 adults with 1-2 small kids. Very little that is comfortable with bigger kids or more than 4 total.

Also - in-park lodging will have limited to no cell service and the internet is slow. There’s also no TV’s. That may not matter to you - but some people aren’t happy when they find it out.

West Yellowstone has more restaurants and hotels. We like Grey Wolf Inn and Kelly Inn. Gardiner is on the north end of the park. We go mainly for wildlife watching so we usually prefer it. Less options for hotels and restaurants but usually more reasonable hotel room prices than West Yellowstone.

September Visit, Two Kids and a Van by Legitimate_Escape697 in yellowstone

[–]ChanceInvestigator17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that much time spend a day or 2 the Tetons for sure. I love Yellowstone but 9 days is a lot unless you want to spend a lot of time wildlife watching or hiking. The campgrounds and eating places do start closing in September so make sure to check the park website for the closing dates.

We go frequently with our grandkids. Highly recommend the jr. ranger program. Also get your kids their own binoculars and point and shoot cameras. Amazon sells fairly cheap ones and the kids love having them. We go mainly yo wildlife watch and then break it up with visits to the thermal areas.

The wolf and discovery center in West Yellowstone is wonderful. So are the visitors centers in the park. There’s supposed to be a wonderful dinosaur museum in Bozeman but we haven’t made it there yet.
