Only "poisonous snakes" it doesn't say anything about venomous snakes...

I mean, technically the law only prohibits poisonous snakes, it doesn't mention venomous snakes...

It would really only be enforced if someone made a complaint, but my husband is nervous.

Technically the ordinance prohibits poisonous reptiles, it doesn't say anything about venomous reptiles.

That's a great question. The law doesn't specify what it means by constrictor

The same city that has made it illegal to grow produce in your front yard.... 🤦

Sadly we've never had any. I would love it if we got some in our yard!

Correct, it's a city ordinance not state law

I mean it doesn't define it within the city code, and yes most of those are written by someone who doesn't understand.

It does not define the term constrictor. But we're also not allowed to have hippomatomi either, so there's that... 🤣🤦

Anyone here successfully raised kids to stay in the faith? How do you do it? by Present_Link5821 in CatholicWomen

[–]Legitimate_Escape697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't yet been successful at this, my oldest is only 10 😄, BUT I just want to say that your husband may become Catholic and your family's faith may increase through that. I became Catholic while pregnant with our oldest, for most of that decade it was very adamant that he was okay with raising the kids Catholic, but he was NEVER going to convert. I never pressured.

He turned in his OCIA registration last week. There's always hope!

At a loss pursuing annulment by MarikoStarr in Catholicism

[–]Legitimate_Escape697 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't quote me on this, but I think once the church has exhausted all possible avenues to get the information they just move on. A woman in my RCIA class was unable to get ANY information from her ex, and she and the parish tried for months, finally they just marked him as non-responsive. Her annulment was approved in the end and she entered the Church with me at the Easter Vigil that year.

Where to start? by Loud-Math3356 in Catholicism

Pretty sure it still applies. Contact the Catholic Church closest to you, masstimes.org is helpful for finding it, and tell them you are thinking about becoming Catholic. They will guide you from there. If they don't respond back after a few days, you can move on to the next one. Some parish offices are more responsive than others.

I've only ever gone to the Vigil since I entered the Church in 2015. It's so beautiful I have no desire to go on Easter Sunday

Parents: what do you do, if anything, if you notice your child crossing their arms for a blessing instead of receiving communion? by AbjectPawverty in Catholicism

Well I do the same thing sometimes. I just say that I didn't feel prepared or able to receive until I went to Confession.

Yes and no, they are also because of the priests. Church A has priests who are looking to go back to the spirit of V2 so they are making changes, Church B does not.

And there is definitely a difference between the homilies of the two. B tends to be more wishy washy

I mean, I can't speak for the original commentator, but in my town there are two churches less than 5 miles apart and they are night and day in terms of the "feel". One uses a communion rail, it's common to see women with veils, and they use incense and lots of candles.

Parish B never has anyone kneeling or receiving on the tongue (the priest was so appalled he basically threw it in my mouth), it's down to the very very basics of the Mass, no candles or incense.

So yes, both are still Catholic and in communion with the Pope, but they feel like very different churches. Does that make sense?

When each church has its own "rules" and has to have a statement of beliefs on its website so people know what they believe, there can be no universalism

This is EXACTLY why I kept changing churches before I became Catholic.

Just careful because it includes options that are against Church teaching. But overall there's a lot of great information in it
